To not shower every day? And....

connemarailoveyou · 18/07/2024 19:17

I don't shower every day. Am I gross? I shower every other evening and on those days I have a proper wash including hair shampoo conditioner etc plus any shaving that needs to be done

Mornings I wash face teeth and put deo on. I think it's ok as I don't smell but wondered am I gross

Also on another entirely different subject, do some ppl never go to parents eve? And if u miss a few does it get mentioned

LittleMG · 18/07/2024 19:20

Yeah I do think a person should shower every day.

Taz55 · 18/07/2024 19:21

YANBU, I do the same as otherwise my skin & hair get really dry & I don’t have time to moisturise all over everyday.

if I have done exercise I shower or it’s extreme hot like today I will shower

WhitesAndStripes · 18/07/2024 19:21

I personally don't think it's ideal. For the showering or the parents evenings. Neither are 100% essential but they are important and I do wonder if the fact that you are not fussed about either is indicative of a wider more laid back attitude or maybe an evasive nature?

The parents evenings only happen once or twice a year so I am not sure why you would not be interested in them.

Sunnydiary · 18/07/2024 19:22

I hardly sweat so I am confident showering every other day unless I have got very hot.

Parents Eve. It would be noted if you NEVER went. Is there a problem?

RagzRebooted · 18/07/2024 19:24

YANBU re showering, I do the same.
For parents evening, I wish I hadn't bothered with 90% of them, my kids are bright and no behaviour issues so it was always a quick 5 mins of "yes they're fine, all good", thanks see you next year. Of course, I wouldn't have known that if I hadn't gone.

connemarailoveyou · 18/07/2024 19:25

I actually always attend all my kids parents evenings and would never miss, but there was one tonight and it got me thinking I wonder if some ppl just never go

I don’t shower every day unless it’s needed/ it’s warm/ am very active etc. saying that since I hit my 40s it’s nearing every day😭 I think it’s a waste of water if it’s not needed. Personally washing my hair every day ruined my hair, sometimes I’d leave it three days and on the next wash it’s in amazing condition!!

Tulipvase · 18/07/2024 19:26

Some people do never go and that is noticed. But if someone has to miss the odd one then not so much. It’s more the parents that don’t engage in anything that’s more of a worry.

and I shower everyday but I don’t particularly care if others don’t.

PashaMinaMio · 18/07/2024 19:28

If you’d absolutely sure your colleagues and friends haven’t noticed an aroma …

Wash your pits and bits with soap and a flannel on the non shower days. It’s called a strip wash.

In warmer weather it’s essential esp after a sweaty night.

There are soap substitutes if your skin gets dry from showering. Dermal is a good one. E45 does one too.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 18/07/2024 19:31

Despite what most of MN think - not showering every day for the most part won't leave you absolutely reeking. If you've been excessively sweating or got dirty then, yes, but otherwise every other day is fine

It's better for the planet in fact

SummerDays2020 · 18/07/2024 19:33

Why would you not want to go to parents evening? And I don't know if they would mention it but I'm sure they'd notice it.

SuziQuinto · 18/07/2024 19:38

Yes, it does get noticed if you never go to parents evening. Attendance is recorded.
It's up to you how often you shower. There are no regulations.

Anonym00se · 18/07/2024 19:41

I think as long as you’re clean it’s no biggie to not shower every day. Some people sweat less than others.

My DM never went to parent’s evening, ever. I’m sure school noticed but I grew up knowing she didn’t give a shit.

DumbassHamsterSitterPerson · 18/07/2024 19:42

I don't even have a shower. I have a bath every other day. My hair and skin are so much better than when i bathed daily.

I always went to parents evening. Although doing secondary school ones online was so much better than in person.

Icarus40 · 18/07/2024 19:43

So if you showered Monday evening you wouldn't shower again until Weds evening? I would feel grubby after two sleeps. Maybe I'm a particularly sweaty sleeper!

Beth216 · 18/07/2024 19:44

We don't have a shower, I bath twice a week. If we all bathed every day we'd be bankrupt from the cost of the energy and water. Washing less is much better for the environment and much better for your pocket.

Parents evening on the other hand - one parent at least should be attending every year. Don't you take an interest in your child's schooling? It's one of the most important things in ensuring they do well at school. Don't worry if you haven't been before though they'll just be really pleased to see you and no one will mention that you weren't there last year.

Izzynohopanda · 18/07/2024 19:44

I don’t shower every day, especially if I’m not leaving the house.

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 18/07/2024 19:51

I do this sometimes/often, usually because I'm knackered and in a rush so it's easier to just throw some clothes on if I know I'm not going anywhere.

Thefaceofboe · 18/07/2024 19:51

if you’re gonna go to that much bother just have a shower, takes 2 minutes

Andtheworldwentwhite · 18/07/2024 19:53

I hate threads like this. It’s puts people who don’t have the money to shower everyday on an awful category. Water and power are expensive. I cannot afford to shower everyday. But good for people who do. But the people on here saying it’s gross not to. Need to check themselves

Jifmicroliquid · 18/07/2024 19:57

I just couldn’t cope not showering every day. I love that fresh feeling after a shower and I would feel horribly grubby without one.

Though I am on a farm, so probably best I do shower every day!

Yousaidwhatagain · 18/07/2024 20:00

It is gross. You're an adult, you can find 5 mins to have a quick shower. You travel by transport, out in public, in this heat especially, it's pretty disgusting not to clean yourself every day. Doing teeth and face, is the absolute bare minimum and you say it as if you have at least done that. And absolutely someone who does shower every day can tell when people don't.

AgnesX · 18/07/2024 20:01

On an office day yes ( and believe me when I say it's obvious especially when it's warm, if you don't). On WFH days before bed yes....so yes. I feel hot and bit pongy otherwise.

Parents evening attendance, yes, unless not going is unavoidable. Just in case...

For a 5 min shower? You literally can time yourself and do a proper clean in under 5min.

ellabella89 · 18/07/2024 20:04

I do the same - every other day! I have literally never once been told I smell, quite the opposite, and my skin is perfect I think because I do not 'strip' it of its oils all the time.
