I don't shower every day. Am I gross? I shower every other evening and on those days I have a proper wash including hair shampoo conditioner etc plus any shaving that needs to be done

Mornings I wash face teeth and put deo on. I think it's ok as I don't smell but wondered am I gross

Also on another entirely different subject, do some ppl never go to parents eve? And if u miss a few does it get mentioned

I think I’ve only read one person who doesn’t shower everyday talk about washing their bum. You poo and wee daily how can you be ok with not washing that everyday?

Toilet paper. Amazing stuff!

Not the same as washing though is it

Delatron · 18/07/2024 21:47

I think genitals need a wash every day. Let’s be honest. Even if by some miracle you don’t sweat for 2 days..

And therefore to wash that area it’s quicker to jump in the shower than stand around naked with a fresh (hopefully) flannel every day, splashing water everywhere.

Delatron · 18/07/2024 21:48

Don’t forget the Europeans have bidets. They think we are mucky enough that we don’t. And now there’s a suggestion of not even showering that area daily.

Moier · 18/07/2024 21:52

I shower every morning and I'm disabled with a wet room.
I don't go out every day either.. but l feel grubby if l don't.. knowing ld have dead skin cells on my body.
I feel refreshed and waken up by my morning shower.
Cool one in Sumner.. Nice hot one in winter..l also wash my hair every day..
Myself and my hairdresser ( also my friend) always know when someone hasn't washed their hair for ages .
But each to their own.
I do me... you do you.
No rules.

Dymaxion · 18/07/2024 21:57

I shower if going to work that day, otherwise it depends on the weather or if I am leaving the house/meeting people. Think of your skin as your biggest organ and a big part of its role is protecting you from infection, its because it is absolutely teeming with good bacteria etc that it is able to do this, don't mess with it too much is my motto.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 18/07/2024 20:30

People might well have smelt a bit sweaty today because... they were sweating at the time 🤣

It's not gross and you really can't tell with most people if they shower every day.

Fresh sweat doesn't pong, these people smelt unclean, one I was standing next to at the traffic lights and his skin looked quite oily as well.

Look if I'm staying at home or not going out then I'll not shower until bedtime but I can definitely smell if people have or haven't showered and washed their hair.

Youhaveyourhandsfull · 18/07/2024 21:58

YABU for starting yet another thread on this. There are HUNDREDS.

haypole · 18/07/2024 21:59

I hate taking shower. I don't enjoy being wet. I shower every second day but if I would be single and wfh I would only shower once a week.

connemarailoveyou · 18/07/2024 19:25

I actually always attend all my kids parents evenings and would never miss, but there was one tonight and it got me thinking I wonder if some ppl just never go

I’ve missed a few as I’m a teacher and so is my DH and there were often clashes. I used to just email teachers for an update which was much more useful.

Throwwaway · 18/07/2024 22:00

I have a bath maybe twice a week. My father probably had a bath about once every month if I remember correctly 😂.

SallyWD · 18/07/2024 22:00

Everyone's different. I really feel I need to shower once a day or I smell. I can smell myself so others must too!
However, my DH showers every other day and is very fragrant. My mum showers every three days and she never smells.

tuttuttutt · 18/07/2024 22:01

I would smell if I didn't shower daily. I'm definitely a sweaty betty.

AngryBird6122 · 18/07/2024 22:02

I got the odd day without showering but if it's hot then it could be two a day - but I'm talking jump in, bits and pits, rinse, out. Oh and if I am on period then of course.

Is that a sensory issue? Do you prefer baths?

KreedKafer · 18/07/2024 22:06

Most public health advice is that people don’t need to shower every day. Obviously if someone does a job that gets them really grubby, or is sweating buckets in the gym, they need to shower more frequently, but the standard health advice is usually three times a week (so, basically every other day).

Jl2014 · 18/07/2024 22:09

Yes it’s gross. And yes it’s easy to smell
when people don’t shower ever day. people just don’t mention it.

PrettyFox · 18/07/2024 22:13

Thepeopleversuswork · 18/07/2024 21:24

This is a very well worn Mumsnet debate which I would expect to follow a similar trajectory to the others ie:

Team Shower Daily: You are disgusting, it only takes five minutes, people will smell you even though you say they dont

Team Pits and Bits: a flannel bath is fine and better for your wallet/skin/the environment

I have no particular dog in this fight, I do shower or bathe daily because I want to but I don’t have a strong view on people who don’t.

But I do find the idea that a flannel wash or a “pits and bits” wash is as easy and adequate as a shower laughable.

Standing around naked with an assortment of dirty rags scrubbing your genitals and pits seems the epitome of pointless Puritanism to me. What a monstrous and unpleasant faff to do something to save yourself pennies and still leave you dirty and uncomfortable.

Someone will be along shortly to say they used to do it in the 70s and it didn’t do them any harm so it must be OK…. But Jimmy Saville, Dave Lee Travis and furry dice were also tolerated then.

Dear God: I would rather be declared bankrupt than undergo a flannel wash.

This made me laugh, I share the same opinion!

TheFairyCaravan · 18/07/2024 22:17

I shower every day, DH does twice a day, but he goes out to work and I don’t. If I feel hot and sweaty at the end of the day, I’ll have another. I wash my hair every day too, because god only knows what I do in bed but I wake up looking like I’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards.

I couldn’t be arsed to flap a flannel round my face and bits in front of the sink. What an absolute faff. It would take less time and make less mess to have a shower.

Sassysia · 18/07/2024 22:18

Blinkingbonkers · 18/07/2024 21:22

My dh would absolutely tell me if I whiffed!!!

Same!!

kitsuneghost · 18/07/2024 22:19

I don't shower every day. I personally don't need to.
However some people do need to (as perfectly illustrated on mumsnet). We are all different.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 18/07/2024 22:22

We always go to parents evening, I know a classmate of DS' parents had to miss one due to a funeral in Ireland and rearranged to do a call with the teacher another day. I think it shows your child you're interested and invested in their education even if you don't find them hugely useful. I think my parents had to sit through a lot of no trouble, doing really well ones with me and a lot of ahhh now where do we start with my brother!

Showering yes daily this time of year. Mid winter probably 5 times a week minimum.

This. I'm not a sweaty person, if I wfh and don't exercise I can go a day or 2 without showering. Your body adapts well. Washing every single day strips natural oils on skin and hair.

MelainesLaugh · 18/07/2024 22:23

I have a chronic illness and some days I just can’t face it. I’d say I probably shower 5/6 days a week. My hair gets disgusting after a day though so I can only get away with it if I’m not seeing anyone

pilates · 18/07/2024 22:27

A shower is quick and easy - a strip wash not so. It makes me feel fresh to shower every day.
