To do my make up on the train?

Does it bother you when you see people doing this? If so, why?

I don't like it when things are sprayed next to or around me because certain things set off my allergies and I don't particularly want other people's cosmetics on my work clothes. No other part of people putting on make up annoys me though, unless I'm being jostled by elbows. Not plucking eyebrows and dropping the hairs everywhere though like I saw someone doing last week 🤮

HowIrresponsible · 16/07/2024 08:08

Yes. Do it before you leave the house or when you get to work.

It's just unhygienic and I don't want to see someone doing their morning ablutions on public transport.

hadenoughpassthewine · 16/07/2024 08:08

No…I’ve just finished up my mascara just now whilst on the train. Why the question?

Mercurial123 · 16/07/2024 08:10

It's a bit weird. Do it home or wait until you get to work.

Unhygenic??? 😂😂😂😂

TeachesOfPeaches · 16/07/2024 08:11

I can't stand the sound of all the brushes etc rattling around in the make-up bag

OMGitsnotgood · 16/07/2024 08:11

I once watched someone spend most of a two hour train journey doing their hair and makeup. Mesmerising.

My full make up takes 10 minutes, would much rather do it at home but each to their own.

How can you hear a couple of brushes on a moving train?

liverburd1 · 16/07/2024 08:14

I've seen threads on this before and it always starts a massive debate.

Personally I've done my make up before on the train. An extra 15mins to get the kids organised and out the door in the morning can make a massive difference and it then makes my commute more productive as otherwise I'd be scrolling through my phone.

I also love watching others do make up on the train. I find it fascinating to see how others do it differently and I love seeing the before vs afters.

I honestly don't see the issue. If someone thinks seeing someone else put on make up next to them unhygenic I honestly don't know how they survive day to day.

Dinosweetpea · 16/07/2024 08:14

It's annoying! It's a part of getting ready to leave the house- so do it in the house!

AppleCream · 16/07/2024 08:15

I don't see the problem personally.

northchesterforest · 16/07/2024 08:15

I can't see how my particular routine is unhygienic at all (no spritz or spray!) and I think life is already busy and stressful to have to worry about keeping up appearances...
God forbid someone sees the before and after transformation in public?

The hate all feels very 1950s to me. Not sure it's any difference to eating a sandwich on the train? ('Oh god forbid, eat your food in private!)

I've only seen it once and it was quite entertaining seeing all the contorsions she was going through.

Or a bit like watching a 'Bake-off' cake being decorated from plain icing to an artistic triumph.

redfacebigdisgrace · 16/07/2024 08:16

I don’t like it. It’s too intimate.

Mercurial123 · 16/07/2024 08:17

Well, if you're not bothered by keeping up appearances, don't wear makeup?

Hazeby · 16/07/2024 08:18

I quite like it, I find it fascinating and oddly relaxing. It’s sort of that ASMR thing?

northchesterforest · 16/07/2024 08:18

This is so curious to me! It really bothers people but I just can't understand? I feel like a bit of a leper as I sit here applying concealer...

Doesn't bother me. I'm in awe of a woman who can do her make-up on the train!

I don't get the comments that it's unhygienic. Surely there are greater hygiene concerns to riding trains than a woman putting on some make-up??

But I enjoy make up?

Absolutely would not bother me. I’ve seen women do it before didn’t annoy me.

I wear make up for me. I don't mind if people see me without it but i feel better in myself with it on.

Therefore if people on the train see me in the morning with no make up it's not an issue but I'd still like to wear it the rest of the day

RB68 · 16/07/2024 08:19

I have no problem with it so long as its not impacting others ie spread across whole table, sprays galore etc.

Its one of the better things people can do in my view. Worse things...farting, nose or ear picking, nail picking or cutting, eating smelly fast food open mouthed or leaving mess everywhere, changing baby's bum on table or chair (and yes its disgraceful that often there is no alternative), allowing use of potties in the aisle, allowing kids to smear food everywhere and not cleaning areas (before or after) I could go on.

I was bemused by someone doing their whole hair routine once - hairdryer, curling irons, big front curler and assorted sprays and lotions before the full on make up - different girl walked off the train.

Jerseymilkshake · 16/07/2024 08:20

I got the train yesterday (a rare occurance as i normally drive to work) and did my make up - it only took me 10 minutes max and nobody batted an eye. At least i don't think they did, and i was oblivious to any judgement if there was any.

It was a quiet train and i was sitting by myself.

I actually find it hilarious that people can be so offended by it. I no longer conjure by train but some of these replies are making me want to take a train ride just to apply my make up - spritz and all (which I've never done on a train before in my life btw)
