To wonder why it's so controversial to talk about white behaviour throughout history?

It's an interesting discussion to have, and makes you think.
Why do so many immediately go into "how dare you!" mode or "why are you being racist towards white people?!"
Instead of actually listening to what people are saying? History is whitewashed in this country, we usually learn it from a "hero" viewpoint.

This is a TAAT isn't it?

Or have you name changed?

Was just about to post the same.

Give it a rest, my history lessons were not white washed. 😴

BeachParty · 09/07/2024 16:16

No, I haven't name changed, I'm a regular poster.
There was a thread about white history though and I was just wondering why it was such a controversial issue with so many people taking offence.
I think it's an interesting discussion.

Why do you lie? History is not "whitewashed" nor taught from a "hero" viewpoint. Hasn't been for decades.

Gugel · 09/07/2024 16:16

Which history are you talking about? The school syllabus? University history departments? Popular history? TV documentaries with Lucy Worsley in a mob cap and farthingale? Mary Beard being fabulous? David Olusoga?

cupcaske123 · 09/07/2024 16:19

People of all races have committed atrocities OP. Rwanda, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, East Timor, China, Myanmar...it's not just a "white" thing.

It was a controversial issue because the original post was crude, divisive and factually incorrect. As opposed to this thread which is just goady because the other thread was pulled.

NeverEnoughPants · 09/07/2024 16:21

How do you define 'white behaviour' and how does it differ from 'black behaviour' or 'asian behaviour'?

Arewealljustloosingtheplot · 09/07/2024 16:21

I don’t think it was the topic that offended people, it was the racist tone of the OP.

vodkaredbullgirl · 09/07/2024 16:22

So another one starts🙄

BeachParty · 09/07/2024 16:22

Not goady.
Was just hoping for an actual discussion about it to happen.

No race or colour or tribe are immune to bad behaviour. Slave trading has happened in communities of all colours all around the world.

Anything that tries to blame bad behaviour on one group or another is batshit.

"White behaviour" is not comparable to black or Asian behaviour.
Bloody hell

All races have been conquerors and colonists.
Babylonians
Egyptians
Mongolians
Moores

Everyone.

Huh?

I'm asking a genuine question. I didn't see the other thread, I have no idea what you mean by 'white behaviour' and I'm trying to understand what you are talking about.

But given your reaction to my very reasonable question, I don't think I want to know.

Moonmelodies · 09/07/2024 16:25

Which colour of people have the best behaviour?

just saying Bloody hell does not answer the question. You created this thread so how about actually give us some facts to discus and answer the question.

We may actually take you seriously and not a joke.

In answer to your question I suppose it’s because people object to racial hatred being whipped up.

Everanewbie · 09/07/2024 16:29

I think it is controversial because it is generalising an entire race of people from no defined start point until the present day.

We have a word for making generalisations based on skin pigmentation.

MorrisZapp · 09/07/2024 16:30

White behaviour?

Are you ill?

BeachParty · 09/07/2024 16:23

I was hoping for a discussion about stuff like how why can't we discuss how people who are white have oppressed/oppress people who are black in the past (an example of white behaviour someone asked for) but if people cant even understand that "black and white behaviour" just isn't comparable it seemed rather fruitless.
Hence the bloody hell response.

A discussion about what? I was born in the UK; my mother was not. My father was born in the UK; his parents were not. My mother is Roma. Her family barely escaped the Holocaust. My heritage is split fairly evenly between three races, yet I look like a white person with a slight tan. Does "white behaviour" apply to me? To my father? Is my mother automatically a better person because she was not white? Your questions, whether you like it or not, are racist and divisive. The impulse which led you to start this thread is racist and divisive. I don't understand why people need to be like this.

MorningCoffeeBreak · 09/07/2024 16:33

OP would you think it okay if someone discussed the Rwandan genocide in terms of “black behaviour”? If not, why not?

DinnaeFashYersel · 09/07/2024 16:34

I've done my family tree.

My forebears were illiterate farm workers and domestic servants.

They were oppressed. They weren't oppressing anyone.

What about their 'white behaviour'?
