Friends accident & mini break

Margo2023 · 01/07/2024 23:20

Me and my friend have a 3 night mini break away in a couple of weeks, not far, just a couple of hours each way by public transport. Both already booked our own transport. She picked, booked and paid up front for the hotel at 250 each. Fast forward to today, she has sprained her wrist after a night out and now is unsure if she will be able to travel. I would normally claim on travel insurance, if we can't move it which I don't think we can due to the hotel availability (being Summer). She says she doesn't bother with travel insurance. I am now wondering if I am obliged to lay her my share of the hotel? I can't find anyone else to come along

She won’t be able to travel in a couple of weeks because of a sprained wrist? Give over. Tell her to put her big girl pants on and get on with it.

TeabySea · 01/07/2024 23:22

Can't she just strap the wrist and carry on? A sprain like that shouldn't be too limiting unless she has other issues, or you're having a few days away juggling, weighting or making origami birds.

Whydidmykitkatbreak · 01/07/2024 23:23

Sprained her wrist? She should just go anyway. I wouldn’t reimburse her if she’s refusing to travel because of a sprained wrist.

Quitelikeacatslife · 01/07/2024 23:24

I really don't understand why she can't still go?

TheShellBeach · 01/07/2024 23:26

Why is a sprained wrist stopping her from travelling in a fortnight, OP?

ZenNudist · 01/07/2024 23:26

Sprained wrist doesnt stop you from travelling.

emilyelf · 01/07/2024 23:28

I went to a champions league final in crutches!

MissingKitty · 01/07/2024 23:31

For a sprained wrist I’d be telling her to strap it up and get on with her life. There’s no way I’d loose out financially because she doesn’t want to go.

Abitorangelooking · 01/07/2024 23:34

I think you should pay your share and still go. Few days in a nice hotel sounds lovely with or without company. Her share is really her problem. No idea why they can’t travel with a sprained wrist. Small backpack for clothes and you have wrist in a sling if necessary.

Garlicnaan · 01/07/2024 23:35

In a few weeks a sprained wrist should be fine.

Is she trying to wriggle out of it?

BagFullOfNoodles · 01/07/2024 23:35

I broke my foot on a Friday night two weeks ago and went to work on the Monday, she's either being ridiculous or lying about why she doesn't want to go

Putting · 01/07/2024 23:36

A sprained wrist surely wouldn’t stop her travelling?

WittyFatball · 01/07/2024 23:37

Yes you have to pay your share, you can still go.

OatFlatWhiteForMe · 01/07/2024 23:38

In a couple of weeks she should be much better. I managed a spa weekend with a broken wrist before.

BruceLikesCake · 01/07/2024 23:43

If it was a broken leg or something, I could understand. Seems a bit ridiculous to not go for a sprained wrist?

This. My 5yo broke his collarbone and elbow which was put in a cast, this was on the Saturday, he was back in school on the Monday. I think your friend is trying to back out for some reason op

Springwatch123 · 01/07/2024 23:47

Is she trying to wriggle out if paying? She still has to pay her share of the costs.

I went to London (for the day) twenty days after breaking my wrist. She should be fine with a sprain. Yes, it’s painful now but will be fine by then.

Flossflower · 01/07/2024 23:48

My husband walked up a mountain with his wrist in a cast. This involved a bit of scrambling.

TeenLifeMum · 01/07/2024 23:54

Has she heard of paracetamol?

I broke my arm because I’m clumsy and missed one day of work to get a cast, then carried on as normal.
I showered, dressed, cooked, drove, worked - everything, because I had to.
I think your friend is being a big baby - or she’s decided she doesn’t want to go.

PoopingAllTheWay · 01/07/2024 23:58

Its an excuse

I broke my wrist and was still
doing full 24 hourly care

candyisdandybutliquorisquicker · 01/07/2024 23:58

I'll join the chorus - friend needs to woman up. A sprained wrist is a lame (pardon the pun) reason to not go on a weekend trip.

😂😂😂😂

whynotwhatknot · 02/07/2024 00:01

insurane woulnt pay out anyway but she shoul be covering her half still why should you

Ger1atricMillennial · 02/07/2024 00:01

There is no genuine reason that a sprained wrist would prevent someone going away for a few days.

If she is an anxious person maybe leave it a week and see how she feels.

If she has pulled stuff like this before i.e. cancelling at short notice because something more interesting has come up then I wouldn't go, but I wouldn't pay her until a month or so afterwards.

Or go on your own and pay her for your half of the hotel when you get back. Its her choice not to come.
