Am I fat?

Confused19831983 · 23/06/2024 13:20

Posting here for traffic.

I am 5ft 4inch and I weigh 10stone.

I am 41.

One question.

Am I fat?

Genuinely interested in opinions.

OP posts:

Probably not. But if you don’t do any exercise you may lack shape or tone and look ‘skinny fat’
I imagine your BMI would be in normal range

VolvoFan · 23/06/2024 13:26

You're an inch taller than me and you weigh about 15lbs more than me. It's a little on the chubby side I would say. Your BMI is 24 which is in the upper range of normal. 25 is overweight. 30 is obese.

Horsesontheloose · 23/06/2024 13:26

Well I am late forties, 5 ft 4 in and 10 stone 5 pounds. Not fit at all so there is no muscle weight there. Only you will know if you are not the correct weight. Are your clothes tight? That's usually a good indication. Not sure you will get many answers on here that will make you feel good about yourself I'm afraid.

Thegreatgiginthesky · 23/06/2024 13:27

What is your waist size? Bmi is completely meaningless without knowing your body composition.

CadyEastman · 23/06/2024 13:28

Depends on what the weight is from? You can be super fit and on the heavier side.

What's your waist to height ratio?

Back21970 · 23/06/2024 13:36

I’d say that was quite a healthy weight, especially for a 41 year old, only a very slim person would regard that as fat IMO.

Again, depends how you are carrying it.

If you have a couple of spare tyres round your waist then I suppose you could look ‘fat’.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 23/06/2024 13:40

If you don't know, how do you think we will? 🤷‍♂️

SouthEastCoast · 23/06/2024 13:40

I’m 5.4 as soon as I go over 60 kg or so I look beyond chubby at 10 stone I would consider myself fat but you’re probably not technically overweight.
we are all differently built though.

I'm exactly the same.

Your BMI is in the healthy range for a white person but would be considered overweight for an Asian person. The latter would be more predisposed to carry fat around their middle for example. Hard to say without seeing a pic of you.

Icanttakethisanymore · 23/06/2024 13:42

It really depends on your muscle mass.

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 23/06/2024 13:43

How on earth could we say without looking at you?

You are certainly not too heavy but it depends on your body shape. I'm much heavier now but at my slimmest 10st 7lb I considered myself slim but would have loved that extra few lbs off as i have big thighs. But I'm naturally very curvy with big boobs so that weight suited me. On a straight shaped body it might look fatter. Either way I don't think its a problem, it's a healthy weight.

Ratisshortforratthew · 23/06/2024 13:43

I’m mid 30s, same height and weigh 10.5 stone and according to BMI I’m just in the overweight category. I don’t think I look fat as I’m in proportion but I’ve got a tiny belly and chub rub on my thighs and feel I’d look and feel healthier losing 0.5-1 stone. I have a chronic illness that makes intense exercise hard though so at the moment I don’t do anything more strenuous than daily dog walks

DelphiniumBlue · 23/06/2024 13:44

How can we tell without a photo? It totally depends on your frame. I look verging on chubby at 10 stone , but sadly I'm a lot more than that these days. I've got other friends same height who have much flatter stomachs at that weight.

TheCadoganArms · 23/06/2024 13:45

chub rub

😂

Extrahotpleasenottoomilky · 23/06/2024 13:46

What size do you take in trousers?

bryceQ · 23/06/2024 13:46

It's impossible to say everyone carries weight differently. What's your waist measurement?

Thudercatsrule · 23/06/2024 13:50

Without a picture, how on earth can anyone comment?!!

lljkk · 23/06/2024 13:51

Probably yes is my answer.
Someone needs to define "fat". MNers tend to go by how good a person looks, but how your looks are affected is the least important of items I list below.

Bigger than you need to be by a large margin, enough that your amount of fatty mass detracts from your fitness/health, energy levels and attractiveness. Big enough that it's hard to find clothes that flatter as well as clothe.

Herewegoagainandagainandagain · 23/06/2024 13:52

No one can tell from that information, depends on your physique it could be muscle mass. BMI and weight is just an indication / means of measurement.

Do you feel fat? Do you want to share a anonymous photo?

If you are posting because you are super fit with muscle mass to make a point it is braggy and in poor taste.

Meadowwild · 23/06/2024 13:55

You are a few pounds within the top end of BMI so unlikely to be fat in a way that would impact your health. Dense muscle weighs more than the same volume of fat, so if you are sporty you could actually be quite slim and toned and weigh that much.

But it's possible to look fat if you carry the weight all in one area. A slim 5'4" woman with all her weight on her hips or on her stomach might look fat in certain clothes, or have an area of the body that is shaped like a much fatter person's.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 23/06/2024 13:55

What was the point in 'posting for traffic' and then buggering off straight away OP? 😳

Mabelface · 23/06/2024 13:56

No. I'm an inch taller and my optimum weight is around 10.4lbs. currently a stone heavier than that right now!

NewPinkJacket · 23/06/2024 13:57

For Christ sake ignore those asking for a photo OP.

You'll be pulled apart if you're fat and pulled apart if you're slim.

I don't think people are literally asking for the op to post a photo, just making the point that it is hard to answer the question without one.
