Posting here for traffic.

I am 5ft 4inch and I weigh 10stone.

I am 41.

One question.

Am I fat?

Genuinely interested in opinions.

I wouldn't say so.im 5ft5 and my goal weight is 10st 7lbs

Confused19831983 · 23/06/2024 17:58

@NoNameNoOne Yep, exactly, slow and steady wins the race!
I will be made up if I drop 5lbs in a month.
We will see. Just want scales to move in right direction!
I am trying to keep between 1000 and 1500 cals a day but not doing much (well any) exercise apart from some long walks with pram when I am off.

Oh my god - does anyone on here think there is a forum anywhere in the world where men are obsessing over how much they weigh and whether they 'feel fat' or if their BMI is in the lower half of the normal range or calling each other chubby?

No wonder it's still a man's world 🙄

Mountainhowl · 23/06/2024 18:01

I'm the same height and weight and I'm definitely overweight, I don't look it in the face or arms, I'm carrying it all in my stomach and arse

But you may have more muscle than me and not have excess belly fat like me?

My favourite weight is between 8.5-9 stone

Flavabobble · 23/06/2024 18:06

JeysusH · 23/06/2024 14:43

Yeah, I'd say you're a bit chubby.

Not fat, but slightly overweight.

I'm 5' 8" and just under 10 stone and could probably lose half a stone.

🙄

sorrynotathome · 23/06/2024 15:21

If you're asking, the answer is probably yes. But of course most people will say you're not, because most people (two-thirds of UK adults) are overweight or obese, and will be jealous of you. They will also say things like "if you lose any weight you will look gaunt" etc etc.

I think @sorrynotathome is spot on.

UsualChaos · 23/06/2024 18:08

Same height, and I look quite thin (some would say too thin) at 10 stone (because my face gets a bit gaunt.) But I definitely look chubby at 11. So I try and stay somewhere in the middle. (Late 40s)

Flyrightby · 23/06/2024 18:10

Well this thread is depressing. I'm the same age and height and weight 12st 4lb.

I used to weigh 10 stone and thought I was quite slim then. But maybe not according to this thread!

I'd have to eat virtually nothing to be less than 10 stone. I was eating 3 tiny meals a day and exercising a lot when I was 10 stone.

I'm on a rugby forum, mostly blokes, and there are lots of discussions about exercise, nutrition and training. The tone is a lot more self depreciating though, guys know they are fat/overweight and want to do something about it and are seeking advice rather then empty platitudes and reassurance.

Thread titles are often of the "How did you stop being a fat cunt?" variety.

Yes, well ....
Women are held to much higher standards of beauty than men.
Can't see that changing any time soon.

Youre likely at the upper end of a healthy BMI

Snippit · 23/06/2024 18:44

I’m an inch shorter and weigh virtually the same and have NEVER thought of myself as being fat. It is the heaviest I’ve ever been, I’m 57 and on HRT. I was heavier at the start of menopause but following the fasting regime of eating which suits my needs.

In 1995 after my daughter was born I eventually got my weight back down to pre pregnancy, which was 9 stone 5 lbs. Judging by what some have said I appear to have been overweight most of my adult life, news to me 😲

Also, the army no longer uses BMI as a guide anymore, there’s too many variables, muscle weighs more than fat etc.

You sound fine to me, crack on and get the bikini out. Although I did purchase a Tankini last year, don’t know why there’s a lot bigger out there that just don’t care, good for them 😝

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 23/06/2024 18:45

Very similar to you OP. I am 5ft 4, age 37 and I am currently 8 stone 9lbs after loosing 2 stone.

This is the lightest I have been for 7 years. I've managed to keep it off for about 10 weeks so far.

Had DD2 about 7 months ago. My average weight before was also 9 stone and 8 stone odd in my 20s.

I don't think you would look fat at that weight, I didn't think I did but I didn't really fit on any of my clothes, especially trousers.

X

HooverTheRoof · 23/06/2024 18:48

I'm exactly the same height and weight and was also around 9 stone before children. I have two children though, the youngest is four (!) and the extra stone I put on is still hanging around 🙁 I feel fat to be honest. I've just joined the gym to try and get back in shape. It's so hard to find the energy between the kids and work etc

NalafromtheLionKing · 23/06/2024 18:51

BMI is based on a 14th century man who was probably around 4 feet tall and malnourished so therefore absolute bollocks 😁. You sound fine OP.

I’m a lot heavier than you but have never had any issue getting male attention.

Women pretend to other women that being skinny is attractive but something I have noticed over the years is that what men and women find beautiful in women is often quite different. Just as well really, as my late DM basically only thought skinny blondes were beautiful but, fortunately, DH (as well as others eg my boss at work 🤮) beg to differ.

JeysusH · 23/06/2024 19:20

Flavabobble · 23/06/2024 18:06

🙄

What?

It's true. For my build, 9 stone is probably about right.

Why is that rolly eyes? I'm not overweight but I could drop half a stone and that would be ideal really.

I just like brie and bacon sandwiches and wine too much, so it's a compromise I'm prepared to make.

namechange12524 · 23/06/2024 19:20

I'm the same age as you and an inch taller. In my 20s I'd have been horrified to hit 10 stone, but now that's my goal weight!

At 10 stone I'd be a size 12, which I would not describe as fat, or particularly thin.

JeysusH · 23/06/2024 19:23

And obviously this in MN so everyone looks 'gaunt' at a normal weight...

PalePurplePumpkin · 23/06/2024 19:29

StinkyWizzleteets · 23/06/2024 15:22

You must be like a whale OP. How can you even leave the house looking like that? 🙄

/sarcasm
and please /fishing for compliments
who cares if you’re fat or thin? Be happy. Live well while you still have health and a degree of youth on your side. It can change too quickly and the worrying about being fat will be bottom of the list then. Make it bottom now.

Errrm...

Very often when people find they're in poor health, it can be weight related.

There is absolutely nothing wrong in the OP keeping an eye on her weight now.

Making it 'bottom of the list' is something often regretted by people who find themselves with type 2 diabetes, to give just one example.

LividLoved · 23/06/2024 19:57

Well, you're significantly thinner than me, so nope, but i accept I'm pretty fucking fat...

xTheLoudLeaderx · 23/06/2024 20:01

I just checked my BMI and I am overweight, bordering obese. I have lost some weight over the last few weeks due to stress however that's resolved now.

It says on the NHS website you can contact your GP to talk about it ! I think if you have a few pounds to shift like me then maybe think what you need to cut out (for me its bread and cheese, im not into chocolate but a sucker for that !) and get your steps in or do some at home exercises, after 2 weeks you'll feel better and probably already see some changes even if its your mood :)

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 23/06/2024 20:13

In relation to what is a realistic weight for your lifestyle, I'd say whilst you are actively trying to lose weight focus on identifying low calorie alternatives that you feel you could be happy with long term. If you reset eating and activity habits to something you can continue long term then your weight will naturally align with that.

Three years ago I had shaded over into obese according to BMI and needed to lose at least 10 kg to get within healthy range. I lost 12 kg in 6 months "trying" and a further 6 kg after that just because the way I had learned to eat meant the weight carried on coming off. I now have a way of eating that means my weight will swing back to me having a BMI of about 22 in normal times - on holiday or at Christmas etc it will go up but that's fine because I know the habits that will take those couple of extra kg off again. Veggie options are top for being filling but lower calorie!

I am 47 and have two DC 11 and 14 fwiw.

ZippyDenimBear · 23/06/2024 20:44

Huge 🙄

strungouteyes · 23/06/2024 20:46

At my skinniest, I was 10st 5lbs. I was a size 8/10. I went rock climbing and had to use a child's harness. I definitely was not fat. So I think it really must depend on a lot of factors! Why are you worried about it?
