I am aiming to do below 30mins but it’s hard

40 plus minutes, run 3 times a week. Only started running in March. I really struggle to beat 40 mins.

hby9628 · 14/06/2024 21:50

lol. I'm 45yo & average about 40 mins. I'm not too worried about how long it takes me I just like to complete it without stopping

I did 10K in 1hr 8mins earlier in the year which I was pretty pleased with. I've signed up for another 10K in sept & aiming to beat that. Just need to start training again.

AlpineMuesli · 14/06/2024 21:53

Just googled

Statistics for average 5K finish times are as follows:

  • Male novice runners: 30-40 minutes on average
  • Female novice runners: 35-45 minutes on average
  • Male 5K race winners typically finish in about 16 minutes and 52 seconds
  • Female 5K race winners finish in about 19 minutes and 12 seconds
  • Extremely fast runners may be able to finish in less than 20 minutes
  • World records for an outdoor 5K run in 2020:
  • Men: 12 minutes and 51 seconds
  • Women: 14 minutes and 44 seconds

I've been running for years and I'm still not sub 30 🙃

Thewhywhybird · 14/06/2024 21:55

This thread is inspiring. So many really good times. Mine is 31-32 minutes at the moment. I have only been running once a week / fortnight up to now but have started trying to run more regularly from this week . Would really like to go under 30 minutes. Hopefully soon.
I did a half in under 2 hours but that was donkeys years ago, before kids.

oakfolk · 14/06/2024 21:56

18.59 in my early 40s but those days are far behind me. 😭 injuries and never ending peri mean just getting out for a jog is a victory.

WhereDoWeGoFromHereHmmm · 14/06/2024 21:56

The course I always run from the house is exactly 4k so I don't actually know what my 5k time would be. My 4k is usually between 6.5 and 7.5 minutes per km depending how sluggish I'm feeling.

I enjoy it, it clears my head. I am pretty small/short with a small stride. I don't think I'll ever be sub-30m but that's ok.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 14/06/2024 21:57

Used to be about 28 minutes when I was running 30+ miles a week, now it would take me an hour😳🤣

Running completely fucked my knees sadly! I genuinely couldn’t run if I wanted to these days. I still miss it but it’s a part of my life I will never get back sadly.

Ponks · 14/06/2024 22:07

Currently 27-28 mins. Want to improve and get closer to my PB (25 years ago) of 24.5mins. I'm mid 50s so going to be tough 😊.

MrMotivatorsLeotard · 14/06/2024 21:02

Just to balance these super impressive below 30 minute times Grin I usually do it in about 34 minutes. I’m not looking to get faster really though. I’m just happy to be able to do a 5k, having only taken up running/regular exercise in my 30s.

This is also 100% me! 35-38 mins is my usual territory but I'm really proud that I'm able to do it at all. I still remember when I found week 1 of Couch to 5k feeling like a challenge! 😂

Sandytoesandcrabs · 14/06/2024 22:15

36min is my parkrun regular, 30 is my pushing like I feel like I’m going to die on a treadmill. I’m 44.

I’m really scared about damaging my knees for later life

AnonSoc · 14/06/2024 22:18

My best 5k time was 21.50 something, in early 2020, but that was an unusually good day and my usual times were 23 minutes ish.

I then got pregnant with my DS in early 2021 and had horrendous pelvic girdle pain which didn't go away after birth. After a lot of physio and other treatment I have only been able to return to running fairly recently, and my times are now 26-28 minutes.

I find parkrun quite depressing now, as it's a reminder of how much my body has been screwed up by pregnancy.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 14/06/2024 22:19

PB is 31:30 but now I’m around 35/36mins. Tbf i had an accident a couple of years ago and have never got back to that time 🤷‍♀️ Would love to though!!

SpongeBob2022 · 14/06/2024 22:20

About 32 mins, I think. Have been running for a few years but only once a week. Did get under 30 for a while but couldn't do it currently.
Early 40s.

QAOPspaceman · 14/06/2024 22:25

17-18 mins but I’m a random bloke, which goes to show why average males should be kept out of female sport

17-18 minutes is not an average bloke!

Stylinson · 14/06/2024 22:33

PB of 27.57 last year. Currently doing about 29.30 and it’s getting harder. I’m 50. Started running about 2 years ago.

dancinginthekitchen · 14/06/2024 22:40

34 mins - I’m almost 66 and been running on and off for several years. I love it - there is nothing like running in the fresh air of early morning 🙂

GrumpyOldCrone · 14/06/2024 22:40

I did one in my 40s and my time was just under 40 minutes. I am not a runner.

TheGirlWithTheArabStrap · 14/06/2024 22:40

I'm 44 and only started running a couple of years ago. My fastest ever is 30 mins 20 secs. I would love to get under 30 mins. I'm currently at about 36 mins after having a bit of a break because of a sore back.

brunettemic · 14/06/2024 22:43

21:something, can’t remember exactly as I rarely get to park run and don’t do 5k races. I’m 42 and set it this year.
To be honest…doesn’t matter what anyone else’s time is, if you’re getting out there and doing 5k in 16 minutes or 60 minutes you’re doing great.

Chessboardtable · 14/06/2024 22:45

my PR for our local ParkRun is 27 minutes. It’s a hilly cross country one, not tarmac

MartyFunkhouser · 14/06/2024 22:45

I’m 52 and went off the boil with running during the pandemic. Trying to get back into it and back to sub 25.

Coulddowithanap · 14/06/2024 22:46

Currently around 30 minutes. Would love to get it down to 25 minutes.

theowlwhisperer · 14/06/2024 22:48

Faster when I run downhill with the wind in my back. I am not even joking!
