I am aiming to do below 30mins but it’s hard

OP posts:
olderbutwiser · 14/06/2024 22:48

I’m 65, 33-34 mins depending on how flat or hilly the route is and whether I have to pause the run at the loos

dicdicnurse · 14/06/2024 22:51

My PB is 28 mins but these days I'm happy with 40 mins.
I'm 47 and have 10 marathons under my belt. Speed isn't everything Smile

PracticallyYesterday · 14/06/2024 22:52

About three weeks I should think 😁

Switcher · 14/06/2024 22:54

It took me nearly a year to crack under 30 mins. I'm at about 27 now I think. Used to be much faster but just don't run enough. Have got lots of gains out of intervals and squats.

Jogjogjog · 14/06/2024 22:54

I started doing 5km every Sunday morning a few weeks ago, having not run for years due to having little ones. I’m 36, youngest is almost 1. Did it in just over 26 mins this week and was really happy with that, but I’d love to get it under 25 mins. I don’t think I was that much under 25 mins pre-kids, but I didn’t have the incentive to literally run away from the chaos when given the opportunity! 😂

TheBottomsOfMyTrousersAreRolled · 14/06/2024 22:54

My pb is 33 but ive not run since my last injury a few years ago. Now the mere thought of road running bores me.

Smithstreet · 14/06/2024 22:57

I run almost entirely on hills and trails. So about 26-28 mins depending how much up on the route. I do occasionally go for a run on the sea front and can do it in about 23/24mins. I am 41, I used to be faster when I did more intervals etc but I found the constant need to go faster ruined my enjoyment and as I love just running about on the hills I usually stick to that.

Puravida23 · 14/06/2024 23:10

PB is 28 mins but only broke 30 mins 3 times last year . I lurch from injury to injury (dodgy knees) so probably my average time now is 31 minutes.
A lot depends on the park run, we have a flat and hilly one in our city I can comfortably get under 30 minutes on the flat but the hilly one adds another 2 mins on average. I am 57 (and feel every year when I run!)

CantFindMyGlasses3 · 14/06/2024 23:23

Age 53, 33 mins. Running sporadically since 30 and never got much faster! Aiming for 30mins one more time...

specialk9 · 15/06/2024 00:12

Under 25 minutes fascinates me. Are you sprinting ?!

When I ran regularly I felt very comfortable running it around 29/30 mins. My PB is 26.37 and I felt like I was going to die at the end.

I've had a couple of years off and just got started again and currently doing approx 34 mins.

Bambi1449 · 15/06/2024 00:26

I got a PB of 22:20 two years ago but these days my time is around 23:30. I'm 49 (took up running when I was 43).

Meadowfinch · 15/06/2024 00:36

36 mins last weekend.

My fastest time this year was 34.10 but I'm 61, recovering from chemo and still getting my stamina back after a year off.

It's taking a while, a bit up and down but now finally a bit warmer, I'm running twice a week and things are stabilising. If I can get back to 33mins I shall be pleased.

Most importantly, it feels good 🙂

CharlotteBog · 15/06/2024 00:46

I'm a runner, coming back from injury and aim to get sub 24 by the end of the season.
Never got under 20 (PB 20:37).
I'm 53.
5k hurts and are not my fave distance to race.

Luminousalumnus · 15/06/2024 00:47

Started running really late in life and got under 30 mins twice aged 59. I'm 62 now don't think I will make it again.

Good for you. I am 60 and consider 10,000 steps a good day .

KohlaParasaurus · 15/06/2024 00:57

Typically 26-27 minutes currently. 60, regular runner.

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 15/06/2024 07:16

Bloody hell, you lot are good!

Rubbish, recent runner (Couch to 5k class of Spring 24) late 50s, delighted to get under 38.
Aiming to be at 35 by end of year but I think that would be my limit.

PCcrisps · 15/06/2024 07:20

Best in the last 12 months 25:55. A long time ago 23:39.

If you stick with it, run or run walk 3 times a week, you'll be amazed how quickly you improve.

RampantKrampus · 15/06/2024 07:20

21:30ish at my peak in my early 20s.

A couple of stone and a couple of kids heavier and I’m probably around 28 minutes currently. I’m working on it.

TheVeryAngryCaterpillar · 15/06/2024 07:21

35.51 for my one and only 5k. Did it then promptly fucked my achilles the next time I went out, and it keeps flaring up again every time I break into a trot 😪I'm 43, clearly the warranty has expired!

ErnestCelendine · 15/06/2024 07:21

About 30 mins - makes my weekend when my parkrun time begins with a "2".

I've just discovered Helen Hall and hope her technique tips (on YouTube) improve my form and then time.

Started running late 30s, had a break for a few years and started again at 45.

Mummadeze · 15/06/2024 07:22

Mine was around 35 when I was at my fastest and doing it every week. Am not a good long distance runner. This was a massive achievement for me at the time.

greengreyblue · 15/06/2024 07:24

32 minutes. I’m 53 but haven’t t run for a month because of a bloody painful heel. DH does 24 at park run most weeks- he’s 51.

PCcrisps · 15/06/2024 07:24

We have a man at our parkrun who's 87 and does 33 mins. I want to be him when I grow up.

I'm currently having a battle with a man of 74. I "beat" him (not a race 🤣) last week with 26:11, but I don't often. I'm 54.

parkrun is the best thing in the world.

AmusedMaker · 15/06/2024 07:29

34 minutes is my PB if running totally flat. Usually around 37 - 38 though, but that’s up a few hills and I’m 61 & only run once a week.
