I am aiming to do below 30mins but it’s hard

I managed a sub-20 a couple of years ago, but had worked hard over the preceding couple of years to get there. A relaxed 5k now would probably be close to 25 minutes. I'm 47, for what it's worth 🤷🏼‍♀️

helpfulperson · 14/06/2024 21:19

I'm very overweight and mid 50's. Somewhere between 45 and 50 minutes on a good day. On a bad day nearer the 3 to 5 working days mentioned above. In fact I can often walk 5 K faster than I can run it.

Deadpretty · 14/06/2024 21:21

Christ, I’m 52 and shit at running. Currently doing a local nothing to 5k group on an athletic track and at week 5 of 9 I’m struggling to run 1600m non-stop. I am determined to do it tho.

19 mins? Fair play, I’m aiming for 45 mins 😂

ParentsTrapped · 14/06/2024 21:22

Best parkrun was 23.42 when I was 30, and a 54 minute 10k, then had my kids and have been at about 28 mins the few times I’ve done it. Would love to get back into it now (I’m 37) - these amazing times from people who are older than me are inspiring!

LaPalmaLlama · 14/06/2024 21:22

About 24 mins. I’m 49 and run regularly but mainly trail and longer distances at a slower pace. My PB is 21:39 which I ran when I was 40. I reckon I could get to 23 now with focused training and less wine but I don’t think I’ll see that PB again.

DCINightingale · 14/06/2024 21:22

32 minutes. I would love to get under 30 minutes. I'm 39, running for just over a year starting from nothing.

TeresaCrowd · 14/06/2024 21:24

Usually around 34 mins at parkrun in what I would describe as a comfortable pace with a push at the end, having a good time. PB is 32.07 but I didn’t enjoy that run. I’m not good at running. I’m still quite fit though, my PB for cycling 100 miles is 5hr12 and 10 miles (not on a special Time Trial aerodynamic bike, just a normal road one) is 26mins. Your 5k time doesn’t define you so keep going with it if you enjoy it and don’t worry about the time. If you’ve got a goal of sub 30, try going back to the earlier levels of couch to 5k, and running 5.50km for the run intervals and below your normal pace but still a jog for the rest. Hopefully it will build you up to holding that pace for longer.

Cleavagecleavagecleavage · 14/06/2024 21:25

My best 5k time is 25:25…currently can’t do better than about 31 minutes. I was really quite fit when I got that 5k time, I’m not really built for speed and don’t think I could ever manage the dizzy heights of 22 mins. But I prefer longer distances really because every step of the first 5k I ever run is usually pretty unpleasant…I don’t unlock my runners’ high til about the 6k mark, after that I’m golden for a good few miles. I did a half marathon in 2 hours when I was on my game, very proud of that! Oh, and I’m 40.

NoraLuka · 14/06/2024 21:27

30 minutes and 32 seconds 😁 I have never been able to get it under 30 minutes. I’ve been running for years but in a really half arsed way, I know I could do better if I quit smoking and trained more regularly.

Sameagainagain567 · 14/06/2024 21:28

32 minutes on a very flat course. Typically about 35 though

skippy67 · 14/06/2024 21:28

I'm nearly 57 with dodgy knees. I recently got back into running after about 5years. I ran 37.01 6 weeks ago. My PB is 31.01 but that was in 2019😅

Gymmum82 · 14/06/2024 21:28

Comfortably 35 mins. I can get sub 30
if it’s flat and I’m really pushing it but it’s hard.
Im very fit, though 42, I’m just not built for running

Hedjwitch · 14/06/2024 21:32

Did Couch 2 5 K several times in my forties and fifties. Best time ever was 38 mins, others in the 40s. Would take me hours now.

ApolloandDaphne · 14/06/2024 21:33

I don't run. My DH does. He runs 5k in 20 minutes. He is age 60. He is a machine I am in awe!

NinetyPercent · 14/06/2024 21:33

Shopgirl1 · 14/06/2024 21:00

Currently not running much. It was 28 min at parkrun last week. Fastest is 22 minutes about 18 months ago. I’m 47.

Edited

22 mins and you’re 47! And I assume a woman? That’s bloody fast. My DH and DS are fast runners and even my DH would be pleased with that.

I’m 47 and my fastest at parkrun is about 31 mins. I usually do about 31 or 32 at parkrun, and on my own more like 33 or 34.

LividPink · 14/06/2024 21:36

About 43m currently because I’m unfit and fat. It’s never been below 39 though…

Maybe one day, before I’m 45.

Ineedaholidayyyy · 14/06/2024 21:37

I'm not a runner, I prefer weights and gym classes but every so often I'll go on a run, like once every 3 months .

I managed 28mins a few years ago, that's the fastest time I have recorded on Strava
I'm unlikely to beat this as I don't train, but I suspect I could do if I wanted to put the time and effort in.

Clevs · 14/06/2024 21:37

I started running last year at 44.5 years old and my first parkrun was 35/36 minutes. I've just turned 46 and last week got a PB of 29:43. I never thought I'd get sub 30 when I started out last year.

freespirit333 · 14/06/2024 21:37

PB 24 minutes 30 seconds, I’ve done under 25 minutes about 3 times. Would like to get under 24 minutes! If I lost weight I’m sure it would help. I’m 37.

ShaunaSadeki · 14/06/2024 21:37

My first ever Parkrun nearly 3 years ago was 30.13 and I have never beaten it.

I got worse and worse and fatter and fatter until I was in the 36’s, now back down to 33/34 but I am still turning up and that is the main thing.

I jog at least 3 times per week, DH who does no exercise ever, comes along about every 2 months and beats me

Thanks. I had only been running a year then too, but was a keen cyclist and swimmer, so fit already. I was also training for a half and running 30 miles a week. I would love to get back to that much again, but hard to find time currently.
Yes, I’m a woman.

afrikat · 14/06/2024 21:40

My best time was 23 mins. My current time is about 38 mins. I've had 10 years off due to illness and just getting back into it. So grateful I am able to run again I don't care about the time

Q124 · 14/06/2024 21:41

I'm in my 40s. My PB is 22.10. I did 24.30 today.

Undercovermole · 14/06/2024 21:43

24 mins 54 secs. I'm 40 and started running again this year

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 14/06/2024 21:44

33.59 is my pb but am nowhere near that at the moment!
