I am aiming to do below 30mins but it’s hard

Oh wow! Good for you all. I just started running, not even thinking about the low 20s. Even if I did 29:59 I’d be delighted haha

I haven't run for a while but when I was it would usually be about 35/36 mins, then I got it down to around 32, then one amazing day, when I was running regularly, I got something like 29.52 at park run. Just the once. I was so chuffed. I was 36 at the time. I'm slim but not athletic by nature! You're still lapping everyone on the couch OP!! I really should get back into it, did make me feel good.

WhereAreWeNow · 15/06/2024 07:46

30mins. On a good day 29mins.
I'm 48 and only running once a week so not enough to actually improve.

dinodiva · 15/06/2024 07:51

Best time was 29:15, but I was really cross.
Usually around 32-33 at the moment, I'm 44 and only run once a week these days (I HIIT most days), although I'd like to get back to two. I ran the London Marathon (slowly) in 2021, which I am very proud of.

BiancaBlue · 15/06/2024 07:54

24 mins about 10 years ago. God knows what I'd do it in now.

Clearinguptheclutter · 15/06/2024 07:57

I have done sub 25 years ago
these days 28-30 is good for me. But sometimes I’m over 30m

I have lots of friends where up to 35 is standard

if you’ve only just started you’re doing great. I’m 46 and been running for 20 years

DataPup · 15/06/2024 08:01

I'm not a runner, I'd far rather swim 5k than run it. I did some running during COVID (aged 42) and got down to 28 minutes and something. Then I did a 10k in under an hour then all my running goals had been met and the pools were open once more and I have never run again 😂

mightydolphin · 15/06/2024 08:02

26 mins for a 5km post children, I'm mid 30s. I was never mega speedy pre children but definitely in the early 20s. Half marathon/longer distances are more of my thing.

About 30 mins - makes my weekend when my parkrun time begins with a "2".

I've just discovered Helen Hall and hope her technique tips (on YouTube) improve my form and then time.

Started running late 30s, had a break for a few years and started again at 45.

Helen Hall is great! Some really good podcasts too https://open.spotify.com/episode/2x4KCOFw32WscO6bnb3SVC?si=7kNzFUlUR0af5tRX21KPcg
She talks about head position; paying attention to this has made a massive difference to my running

I'm 51 and struggling with a knee issue at the minute but I usually manage 32 minutes. My best was 29 but I really really want a sub 60 10km, that's my goal for the next 6 months!

Same!! I'm 53 and just returned to running but never been below 30. I have started using Nike running club app. It's free and has a mix of runs which I've never done before so fingers crossed 🤞

UnaOfStormhold · 15/06/2024 08:36

47, my PB is 22:19 from earlier this year and I would love to get sub 22. Strength training really helps to get just that little bit more distance each stride which adds up to a faster time.

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 15/06/2024 07:16

Bloody hell, you lot are good!

Rubbish, recent runner (Couch to 5k class of Spring 24) late 50s, delighted to get under 38.
Aiming to be at 35 by end of year but I think that would be my limit.

Don't predetermine your limit, who knows where you will end up! I did Couch to 5k in 2016 and I honestly thought my target of being able to run 5k without stopping was as much as I would ever want to do and be capable of. I've discovered that I (like all of us) am capable of so much more than I ever thought!

My 5k time is comfortably around 31 minutes, I can go under 30 mins but it depends on the day and I have to work fairly hard for it. If I have the choice of running further or faster I will always pick further!

Tortiemiaw · 15/06/2024 08:56

Fastest has been 37, but I am 60 and only started running about 10 years ago!!
I used to get really jealous and cross about all the sub 25 runners until I relates that most of them are in their 20s and 30s and have been running for years !

Tortiemiaw · 15/06/2024 08:56

I did a half marathon last year in 3 hours and cried with joy 😊

xsquared · 15/06/2024 09:47

No official 5k time, but I did manage to xover 5k in a longer race at 21:44 this time last year.

Recent parkrun 22:38 but I want to get closer to 21:30. I mostly train for half marathons, and I'm more of a long distance runner.

I am 45 this year.

As you've only started your running, you have potential to improve quickly with more consistent training.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 15/06/2024 09:54

Best time was 29:15, but I was really cross

Love this @dinodiva 😂

JWhipple · 15/06/2024 13:47

2km in an hour and fifteen minutes. But that was swimming. I am not built for speed.

Now, swimming I'm getting better at - I've gone from 3.30 minutes per 100m to 2.14 in about a year. Still not one of the billy big bollocks crawlers in the other lanes, but sedately elderly and happy breaststroking away..

Catopia · 15/06/2024 15:45

All-time 18:32 at 20 years old, but that was with structured, hard, consistent training over a significant period. Best in my 30s is 18:55. But today at 17 weeks pregnant, 24:58 (which probably felt much harder, running feels like I'm dragging round a sack of potatoes right now!).

30 minutes is a big barrier, but it's an achievable one for most with consistent training. What running are you currently doing over the course of the week?

WhiteNettle · 15/06/2024 15:47

I’m also mid-50s, health issues, overweight. I can run (jog) 5km in a little under 45 minutes but that’s hard work. I can walk faster but I am trying to run more for health and cardio reasons. My goal would be to achieve sub 40!

Last time anyone saw me jog they mocked me for my (lack of) speed, so now I try to jog where I can’t be seen.

CharlotteBog · 15/06/2024 16:36

5Ks weren't really a popular distance when I was young enough to have done an amazing time.
For anyone interested, you can get an age graded score (or WAVA).
At 53 I'm not up there with the gazelles, but for my age I'm not bad.
I like that with running.

Training - Age Grading Calculator

Use our age-grading calculator to rate your run between 0 and 100. It takes your age and gender into account. Or try our reverse age-grading calculator

I'm 56. Best 5k was 30:02. Would love to get under 30. I don't do well with heat or pollen at the moment.

Famfirst · 15/06/2024 16:48

About 3 weeks!

PithyLion · 15/06/2024 16:49

I'm delighted if my time is under 40 minutes

Vicliz24 · 15/06/2024 16:51

Average between 28-30 . I'm 60 in November but have run since school only breaking for pregnancy/ birth and ill health when needed . Getting slower each year now but still out there .
