This covid merry-go-round is never going to end, is it

covid again, oxygen monitors again, off work again, informing all vulnerable contacts again, feeling terrible again. I have had 8 immunisations. Well, at least it isn't anything like as bad as it could be without immunisations. But this is never going to end, is it. Every year, at least 2 immunisations, and at least 2 illnesses, until the one that finishes me off , I suppose. That is without counting the disruption when someone else tests positive, instead of me.

Sorry to hear that you’re unwell. I assume you’re clinically vulnerable if you’ve had 8 vaccinations so it must be a worry.

where are you getting tests from?

yes, clinically vulnerable - the tests get posted to me by NHS, so I am not sure of exact source - they say "made in china" on them

You can buy tests from Amazon (or could last year as I bought in bulk due to a relative going through chemo).

I hear you @sixtyandsomething its shite.

greengreyblue · 09/06/2024 20:49

I work in primary. There have been so many cold like viruses going around this last 6 weeks. But nobody is testing obviously. Must be awful for you OP but it’s in the past for everyone else. Hope you get well soon.

qpid5tunt · 09/06/2024 22:09

This is just my opinion. Surely all these booster jabs will weaken immune systems eventually?

That’s not really how vaccines work

"Surely all these booster jabs will weaken immune systems eventually?"
By which mechanism?
Do you know how immunisations work?

I mean, they have the word “booster” in their name…

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 09/06/2024 22:12

I'm so sorry, OP.
It feels like a parallel life when other people who aren't flattened by covid are able to get on with life, whereas more vulnerable people are still struggling.
I know people in drug discovery who are working on cures and I hope one will work out.

You do realise that is the opposite of what vaccines actually do?! People have been having annual flu vaccines for years without problems.

There is increasing evidence that covid has a negative lasting impact on the immune system though.

StripyHorse · 09/06/2024 22:14

I feel for you OP. It is shit.

It would be amazing if MPs afforded the same protections they have (hepa filters in HOC and HOL) to healthcare providers, schools and other public places.

Orchidacea · 10/06/2024 00:56

Do you wear a mask, OP?

InactionIsAWeaponOfMassDestruction · 10/06/2024 01:00

I feel you, OP. Just been floored by it again & it’s really nasty. I wish people would at least cover their mouths when they cough & sneeze. It’s basic but some people seem to think we all want to be smothered by their effing germs!

This is exactly how these boosters work though, according to the European Medicines Agency.

I am afraid that for many of you, this assigning to the past is in fact only going to be temporary. I had assigned it to the past once too. once you are older, or more vulnerable in other ways, then you will be joining me on the merry-go-round

no, that is not how vaccines work. And "opinion" is an irrelevant concept in these scientific facts. That is like saying This is just my opinion, but surely the sun goes around the Earth.... I still have the capacity to be shocked, not so much by people who don't know basic school science, but by those who don't understand that they don't know. Why would you think this is something your opinion counts in? You won't be able to "opinion" yourself out of being dead or not! sorry if that seems rude- but this comment is just so far from reality that I just don't really know what to say

yes, I wear a mask, on public transport and in shops, but that isn't really going to help much, it doesn't stop the virus getting on my skin, in my eyes, etc. It is probably better than not wearing a mask though

old article, unreliable and inaccurate source, poorly understood by journalist and mistranslated.

Beautifully expressed!

Calamitousness · 10/06/2024 05:21

Covid by and large is over for the vast majority. And is over in the global impact on healthcare services and. Death toll etc
people who are vulnerable to covid will be equally vulnerable to other respiratory viruses and bacteria out there. this is normal and has always been the case.
I am sorry you’re unwell again but covid will not be affecting the majority as it previously did. There’ll be something else. Not likely in my lifetime though.

Well I'm about to have my 7th jab (anyone can have them where I live), I've never had covid and it's been over a year since I even had a cold, so no.

Also, as others have mentioned, that isn't how vaccines work!
