This covid merry-go-round is never going to end, is it

covid again, oxygen monitors again, off work again, informing all vulnerable contacts again, feeling terrible again. I have had 8 immunisations. Well, at least it isn't anything like as bad as it could be without immunisations. But this is never going to end, is it. Every year, at least 2 immunisations, and at least 2 illnesses, until the one that finishes me off , I suppose. That is without counting the disruption when someone else tests positive, instead of me.

I think if you kept getting an infection your body could get used to it and stop attacking it as much with the basic inflammatory response as well as having specific antibodies to it

some infections yes, others no, and some get worse every time.

last time I had covid was worse - I was hospitalised for many days, and on oxygen. This was the fourth or fifth time I'd had it. This time isn't so bad yet

some diseases are notorious for getting worse each time. denge fever, for example, if you lose a limb, you know it will kill you if you get it again. And flu can be worse each time too.

Sorry to hear that. It's the gift that keeps on giving isn't it? When is it going to go away? For it to still be around is odd, bizarre.

Theu always said that covid is now a human virus that will continue to circulate for many generations ,
It's not going to go away
But it certainly doesn't have the impact ( for most ) that it once did

luckily we have immunisations and treatments now, but even so, I still think this is a very dangerous virus. It might not affect you badly 9 times out of 10, but all of us are going to keep getting it and keep getting it, knowingly or not.

And I am not really getting anything else - I am immunocompromised yes, but I have not been ill with anything except covid in the last two years

Many viruses can be very dangerous in some people and in some situations and we vaccinate against them.
Chickenpox is rarely a problem in children but can be very dangerous in adults and can lead to encephalitis.
Measles is okay in most just the rare few go on to get the effects in the brain.
Rubella okay in children - dangerous in pregnant women.
I could go on.
In the early days of COVID people were dying both of overwhelming infection or the body's immune system overreacting - severe illness is far less now although sadly not gone.

CwmYoy · 10/06/2024 09:27

What's needed is for people who are infected to wear masks. But people won't test, even if they think it's Covid.

It really isn't too much to ask to protect the vulnerable. But people can be very selfish "It's just a cold". Shows their ignorance.

DownWithThisKindOfThing · 10/06/2024 09:29

I guess if you are vulnerable, probably not not x hope you feel better soon.

For balance though I had it last week and other than a bit snotty and bunged up for a couple of days I felt fine. I only tested as I was meant to be travelling for work (cancelled it) and was clear 2 days later.

I have struggled to get masks. Wanted some when I had a rotten bug over Christmas (not Covid) and sent my husband to various shops and pharmacies to get some and no joy. Of course I could have ordered some online but they’d have taken a few days to come.

That’s not really how vaccines work

But to be fair the covid jab isn't a vaccine in the true sense of the word as it does nothing to prevent you from catching covid. It just reduces the chances of you becoming very unwell if you catch it.

qpid5tunt · 09/06/2024 22:09

This is just my opinion. Surely all these booster jabs will weaken immune systems eventually?

The opposite

Except for people with immune systems that barely work

sorry, pointless post! just venting!

tweedbankline · 10/06/2024 09:37

To be clear - when your immune system doesn't work the effect of boosters building an ever stronger immune response doesn't really work

Must admit I'd never bother testing

But I would never go around spreading any germ I had- I don't go out and about with "just" a cold

How would that work? They mimic the infection they're designed to combat, priming the immune system to better deal with an infection from the wild.

40weeksmummy · 10/06/2024 09:55

I have Covid every 2 or 3 months. I'm fully vaccinated, with recent booster (autoimmune disease).
I lost almost all sense of smell in 2019 (don't think I'll be able to get it back).
It affects my vision too.
I'm just tired of it, I'm only 35 years old.

tweedbankline · 10/06/2024 10:02

I think sone people believe that you are making your immune system work less hard - giving it a hand up as it were - so will get less strong

Or alternatively the vaccines wear your immune system out - exhaust the poor thing

A standard mask doesn't protect you only others so wear a more advanced mask. Use sanitising wipes/hand sanitiser on hands when out and no access to water - so before eating and drinking - in fact personally I would avoid doing that out and about. Avoid places getting hot and humid and where there is close contact with people. If you a regularly attending hospital etc keep your hands to yourself and sit away from others if possible. Again use sanitiser and wipes and proper filter mask(n92s I think they are) not the cheaper ones. Get your shopping click and collect if don't want delivered.

I have 3 conditions that make me vulnerable - I am not "older" really early 50s had all offered jabs, get flu too and not had covid even one time. I also back away if anyone has so much as a sniffle!!!

do people really believe that?

OP posts:

I have come to accept that someone will believe anything you can imagine

People also believe that because they believe it it must be correct and evidence to the contrary is you being smug and elitist and arrogant or else you being an idiotic follower of others

Glad to have provided a few moments distraction for you!

Sorry to hear that you’re unwell. I assume you’re clinically vulnerable if you’ve had 8 vaccinations so it must be a worry.
**
where are you getting tests from

I’mnot clinically vulnerable. I have the jabs because my husband is. It really knocked me for six last time.

I find it more bizarre to expect it “to go away”. Why would it?

I'm not sure how it effects those who are vaunrable but I'm starting to believe we have done the wrong thing by carrying on vaccinating a lot of people for covid. It initially got us out of lock down but seems to have caused more long term damage. For good evidence based information https://youtube.com/@campbellteaching?si=1rxdD-JqmdoQtroa
