This covid merry-go-round is never going to end, is it

covid again, oxygen monitors again, off work again, informing all vulnerable contacts again, feeling terrible again. I have had 8 immunisations. Well, at least it isn't anything like as bad as it could be without immunisations. But this is never going to end, is it. Every year, at least 2 immunisations, and at least 2 illnesses, until the one that finishes me off , I suppose. That is without counting the disruption when someone else tests positive, instead of me.

I understand. And did you have similar respiratory problems before 2020?

no, I was fit and healthy, ran marathons regularly, didn't take a day off sick from one year to the next, but I am older now, and have other health issues, all of which make me vulnerable.

This is my point, all of us become more vulnerable as we get older. Everyone who is all blase about their health right now has this coming. And when you reach this stage, the constant battle against covid is exhausting. Immunisations, episodes of illness, precautions, attempting to avoid infection.....

I am sure I am more vulnerable to other infections too, but it is covid that keeps on coming round, again and again and again.

You've said you were fit and healthy until you started vaccinating against COVID

How do you know for sure it wasn't the vaccinations that brought about the health issues by compromising your immune system?

er no, it was chemotherapy that damaged my immune system, and the covid vaccinations that have kept me alive.

You are being ridiculous. Vaccinations dont compromise your immune system.

Alltheyearround · 10/06/2024 16:11

I hear you OP. I have to avoid group socials all winter, but often get it from school as there is no testing and children are encouraged to come in unless markedly unwell. So it's a lottery. Every time I have had it have ended up being very unwell - think not even being able to walk to the end of the street, sometimes not even able to sit up in bed all day. For 3 months at a time.

Thank god no long covid but still massively disruptive. I have CFS so already compromised and doing 50% less that what a normal woman my age would be able to do.

It’s not the same for everyone though, is it?
I have several older relatives who until this day haven’t been particularly ill with Covid.
My mum got it couple of weeks after the first vaccine, so she wasn’t even fully immunised.
She’s also far from being fit and healthy sadly, but Covid was like cold for her.
Of course it hasn’t been like that for everyone and many people did/ do get very ill, but you can’t really say “Just wait till you get older, Covid will get you too!”

I have only had COVID once in 2019, not had flu since, had a few regular colds (but that's normal isn't it)

I haven't had a single COVID vaccine.

Can anyone explain why I am so healthy despite not having the vaccine?

Edited

Dd has only had it once, not had flu in that time, nor much more than a very light cold bar one heavier one.
She's had two vaccines.

I don't think the lack of vaccines have mad you more immune.
It's just the luck of already having a good immune system and the luck of not catching one of the various viruses out there.

I'm sorry I don't think there's any luck involved since I am out and about unmaxed the entire time

Coffeeinsunshine · 10/06/2024 17:53

It's a weird one. Some older people have not seemed that affected, some sporty children are now in wheelchairs, it's been linked to greater risk of heart attacks and strokes, neurological issues, there is barely any time between waves, even in low waves there's alot about, 2 million have long covid in England and Scotland, the numbers of kids with long covid has doubled in the last year, health care workers work when contagious and some people seem to think it's ok.

The irony is that in treating vulnerable people as an inconvenience, hundreds of thousands more are becoming vulnerable. Patients in hospitals deserve better than this for a start - as do the staff. How people can say none of this has an impact or impacts will go away if we stop thinking/dealing with it is beyond me.

What I find weird is everyone I know that didn't take the vaccine is having zero health problems. It's only the vaccinated that seem to be having clots, myocarditis, seizures and aggressive cancers.

Yes, I'm sure that no unvaccinated person has died or suffered from, in the last 3 years, of a blood clot, seizure, cancers, etc. 🙄
Honestly, I thought we'd gone past all that nonsense,

Alltheyearround · 10/06/2024 18:08

Here, here, massive numbers of unvaccinated people died of Covid and its complications across the world.

No medical treatment is 100% safe. We have to balance what is most risky. Getting Covid for many people has proven fatal or as having long term effects.

Foxxo · 10/06/2024 18:14

I'm not vulnerable, but i've had it 3 times, just getting over the last bout and thoroughly fed up with it.. got it thanks to idiots who attend big events and don't test before they go (and you can buy 10 tests off amazon for £10 so no fucking excuse)

It's definitely made my asthma worse long term, and while i wouldn't say i have 'long covid' the second one last year left me with long term fatigue that as someone who is already physically disabled, really hasn't helped matters.

It is still an issue, and i do wish people were more careful.

buffyslayer · 10/06/2024 18:17

ManilowBarry · 10/06/2024 15:23

Or you can choose not to believe in any of it and lead your life normally as many of us do and have zero problems.

Yeah I tried that because everyone was saying I needed to get over the shielding, covid was just a cold etc and it was Christmas

Got Covid. 3 weeks off work, lost money, ended up on the covid at home ward
No thanks. I don't want long covid to add to the list of crap I already have to deal with

buffyslayer · 10/06/2024 18:18

@Rationalmum but you're not immunocompromised? Totally different

As you said before, maybe we're just lucky and the vaccinated people having continual health problems are just unlucky.

That's right! I've not taken the vaccine, and funnily enough, I'm not immunocompromised.

tweedbankline · 10/06/2024 18:26

So are you saying that OP became immunocompronised because her body knew that in the future she would have the covid vaccine ?

You do know that time travel isn't possible even on the subatomic level don't you ?

I’ve had 5 jabs (I think), have hashimotos and worked in a hospital on the wards throughout lockdown. I’ve never tested positive for it either (and we did a lot of testing!)

what is your point? You are healthy and lucky? Same for me.

OP said that they were completely fit and healthy prior to 2020 and the vaccine rollout. That's all I have to go on, so I have to assume they didn't mean "fit and healthy except for an immunocompromisation"

midgetastic · 10/06/2024 18:30

This is so funny

midgetastic · 10/06/2024 18:31

The vaccine roll out was 2021 not 2020
