Love this very optimistic headline. 18 C - 19 C is fine - but it's not basking sunshine

Brits head to the beaches to enjoy the sunshine as the country basks in 19C heat but rain is expected to sweep across the nation tonight.

After a chilly start in the morning, the south west of England has enjoyed balmy weather with people making the most of the weather by heading outside.

Large crowds of sun-worshippers have been spotted on Lyme Regis beach in Dorset, where temperatures could go as high 18C. The highest temperature of the day is expected to be on the Isle of Wight where the mercury could rise to a warm but pleasant 19C.

Well, it's 12c and miserable in the NW, as you say hardly basking!

Allywill · 09/06/2024 19:50

I’m in the north west and it’s 9 degrees here. I’ve got the heating on - in June

Superstoria · 09/06/2024 19:52

I wore a jumper on my beach walk today and put the heating on for 20 mins when i got home!

Basking my (cold) arse.

DappledThings · 09/06/2024 19:53

19 is plenty hot. It was that here today. We had a picnic. Counted as basking to me.

alittlehopeisadangerousthing · 09/06/2024 19:53

Mail is being ironic surely...

If it was 29 on the other hand....

Zanatdy · 09/06/2024 19:54

I’m in Surrey and it’s been cold today (in my opinion)

BobnLen · 09/06/2024 19:54

Heating is on, we are not even in a colder part of the country

Himitsu · 09/06/2024 19:54

I usually run hot but I’ve got my oodie on

19 is fine. But it's not basking.

It's pleasant

its been about 12 degrees and rainy where I am. I wouldn’t even call 18 degrees basking when it’s June

Yirk · 09/06/2024 19:57

Heating on, 11* here NE , the freezing cold wind that has plagued us all week has dropped, its still 🥶

Gruelle · 09/06/2024 19:58

I’m gazing out to some green hills in the NW - the clouds covering them suggest a tropical monsoon rolling towards me.

astonssandboxisalittertray · 09/06/2024 19:59

I've been outside at kids sport all day and I've been really cold. Forecast said 15c and cloudy but the chilly breeze made it feel much colder. There was some sun this morning but it was not warm.

CormorantStrikesBack · 09/06/2024 19:59

12 degrees and blowing a gale here in Yorkshire today, heavy showers throughout the morning. I’ve been outside, wrapped up and still chilly all day.

Should have said this was north London

Tulipvase · 09/06/2024 20:00

Think it was 15 here today. But not sunny. It’s hard as in the sun, it can feel hot quite quickly but as soon as the wind gets up or the sun goes in, it gets chilly quickly.

avidteadrinker · 09/06/2024 20:03

I wore a vest, T-shirt, jumper and coat this afternoon whilst at a kids party in a garden… I was only just warm enough!

Marine30 · 09/06/2024 20:04

They are so desperately trying to keep morale up.
My favourites are always the headlines ‘Britain set to be hotter than Corfu/Malaga/Namibia’ - yeah for about an hour 🙄

sanityisamyth · 09/06/2024 20:05

Basking? I've not taken my hoody off since September!

Floralnomad · 09/06/2024 20:06

I’m in the SE and it’s been gusty all day and is quite chilly now , definitely hasn’t been beach weather unless you like sitting fully dressed

Algiz20 · 09/06/2024 20:08

It's June, it's the Daily Mail (or Heil or Bile or Vile as it's known in this house), we're about to (hopefully) have a new government, therefore this is just about the only headline they can come up with. And yes, we've had the heating and dehumidifiers on in the temperate rainfyof the fat north west of England, 9C...

DappledThings · 09/06/2024 20:09

cakeorwine · 09/06/2024 19:56

Personally I was basking in it! But it's the higher end of acceptable temperatures for me.

CrushingOnRubies · 09/06/2024 20:09

It was 15 degrees where I am. Sunny spells but there was a cold wind.

EatCrow · 09/06/2024 20:10

Gaslighting on a grand scale there.

Yes, exactly! Bloody pouring down here too. In the case of the British media "Britain" = the SW of England!
