Love this very optimistic headline. 18 C - 19 C is fine - but it's not basking sunshine

Brits head to the beaches to enjoy the sunshine as the country basks in 19C heat but rain is expected to sweep across the nation tonight.

After a chilly start in the morning, the south west of England has enjoyed balmy weather with people making the most of the weather by heading outside.

Large crowds of sun-worshippers have been spotted on Lyme Regis beach in Dorset, where temperatures could go as high 18C. The highest temperature of the day is expected to be on the Isle of Wight where the mercury could rise to a warm but pleasant 19C.

They are so desperately trying to keep morale up.
My favourites are always the headlines ‘Britain set to be hotter than Corfu/Malaga/Namibia’ - yeah for about an hour 🙄

I don’t think it’s about morale, they’re piss taking bastards, laughing their chops off at each insulting headline. And wondering, bemused even, at how many idiots will fall for it, given time.

I usually run hot but I’ve got my oodie on

Snap!

leafybrew · 09/06/2024 20:21

What would we do without oodies? 🥰😄

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 09/06/2024 20:27

It was a typing error, someone caught the 1 in error. Its 9 here and raining

rabbitorhare · 09/06/2024 20:28

I'm on the Isle of Wight and I can assure you I was absolutely not basking in sunshine today! I actually had to go and find a thicker jumper when the children were playing in the garden.

LindorDoubleChoc · 09/06/2024 20:31

To be fair 19 degrees does feel like a bit like basking, given the previous 10 months!

BobnLen · 09/06/2024 20:31

I have looked at the next two weeks as we are going to the Peak District and I don't see those temperatures that the Express is predicting, it looks showery and cool.

TheDogIsInCharge · 09/06/2024 20:37

Basking my arse. It has been so dreary here today that the flowers that open in daylight didn't even bother.

I've been wearing a fleece and woolly socks for months. I was in Greece very very briefly last week and it was lush. That wonderful feeling when you step outside at 9pm to go and eat and it's still warm and smells of jasmine. I'd settle for a G&T in the garden at a balmy 20 degrees these days.

tillyandmilly · 09/06/2024 20:39

Don't want it hot - starts my migraines off! Really happy with the UK temperature of 19 degrees - wish it could stay this temperature for the rest of the Summer - I would be very happy!

I’m in south east and have been wearing a woolly cardigan all day. I don’t understand how 18 is considered hot.

Itsmyshadow · 09/06/2024 20:48

Just wait until we get the one 30c day of the year and they’ll all be banging on about climate change again 🙄.

isthismylifenow · 09/06/2024 20:51

I had a giggle at that headline.

Meanwhile, over here in the southern hemisphere it's winter now. I thought of the weather threads on here when the weather report said ' a chilly day ahead with a high of 16'. A few degrees more and you lot are basking 😀

NeelyOHara1 · 09/06/2024 20:52

Personally, I prefer this polo neck and sandals weather to swelteringness, lol.

henlake7 · 09/06/2024 20:57

I'm in the SE and it's been t shirt weather here.
Although tbf people here are in total denial of the weather and wearing vests and shorts no matter how cold!

Marine30 · 09/06/2024 21:36

It’s the wind that I hate. By the sea it’s constantly bloody windy 😞

Justrelax · 09/06/2024 22:57

I'm totally sick of the cold.

Sorenips11 · 09/06/2024 22:59

I was moaning about this last week!

Britain set to bask in heatwave = 2 days of 18C

Heavy snow forecasted to cover Britain = a few flakes falling in London

Severe weather warning in place as heavy storms on the way = an evening of wind and rain

Why do they have to be so sensationalist? It's just weather.

PickAChew · 09/06/2024 23:04

It was about the middle of July, last year, that the weather turned soggy and we're only a month off the anniversary of that.

The weeds are looking quite lush, though.

I'd love it to reach 19. I don't even like hot weather but I'm tired of having to wear a vest.

Ineedaholidayyyy · 09/06/2024 23:08

Cold and windy in the NW, in fact the heating came on the other day as the temp in my house dropped below 17 degrees, bloody ridiculous in June !! I'd take 19 degrees right now, but its not what you would call basking in sunshine is it. Another sensational headline.

Kianai · 09/06/2024 23:09

Now now, it's (probably) going to be the hottest June EVER, so if they say we are basking, you are basking.

Just like we were all shivering roasting during the hottest May since records began.

StarDolphins · 09/06/2024 23:10

8degrees here all day & its pissed it down ALL day. Dog stinks of wet dog, child muddy & mud everywhere & my hair looks like a back combed Brillo. It’s just absolutely fucking joyless in the Peak District. I’m at the point of not even being arsed about any sunshine, I am just fucking sick of living like a duck.

OhMaria2 · 09/06/2024 23:28

Whatever do you mean LindorDoubleChoc? It's been the warmest May since records began! Which must have been last year, because the first lockdown Spring was utterly glorious.
And I don't know about you buy I had the heating on at times in May

Corianm · 09/06/2024 23:34

I’m just glad it’s not constantly pouring it down (well here in Berkshire anyway). The muddy paws and constant welly wearing was driving me bonkers. Steam mopping daily was such a pain in the arse.
