Love this very optimistic headline. 18 C - 19 C is fine - but it's not basking sunshine

Brits head to the beaches to enjoy the sunshine as the country basks in 19C heat but rain is expected to sweep across the nation tonight.

After a chilly start in the morning, the south west of England has enjoyed balmy weather with people making the most of the weather by heading outside.

Large crowds of sun-worshippers have been spotted on Lyme Regis beach in Dorset, where temperatures could go as high 18C. The highest temperature of the day is expected to be on the Isle of Wight where the mercury could rise to a warm but pleasant 19C.

Heating on today, the south east is clearly basking (under a blanket). Winter duvets going back on beds today.

@80smonster I haven't taken the winter duvets off yet!

I'm one of those 'hardy' souls who discards her jeans and leggings on 1st May and lives in shorts (outside of work) until 1st October. However even my hardiness is being tested this month! I don't think I've had a single week this year where I haven't got soaked to the skin at least two days of the weeks whilst walking the dog. This morning it was 8 degrees then went down to 7 in the torrential rain. I've put the heating back on at work - mainly to dry out my dog walking clothes but also because its blooming FREEZING!! Am camping in Cornwall in July - my clothes list will now have jeans, leggings and warm jumpers at the top rather than shorts and T Shirts!

I’m in Cornwall in July too. Every year I think I should know better - but two years were so hot it was amazing. Like being in the Caribbean - the other 15 or so spent there been shite weather wise 😌

So, back in the SH today. Weather person on radio "a cold, then chilly day currently 17 degrees".

It's baltic! Everyone is walking around in layers, hats, scarves and winter jackets. I was so relieved to have to go out earlier, which meant I could warm up in the car.

I do think that we feel temperatures differently. I really do think a 30 degree day in the UK feels hotter than a 30 degree day here. And I think it's to do with our lifestyles. Our houses are built for keeping heat out, and yours for keeping it in. I am ok if I go and sun myself every now and then, but anywhere that is not in the sun (or heated) is baltic.

Off to find my hooded blanket and go sit in the car for a bit 😄

(and it was 1 degree early this morning, so properly cold)

Basking in a jumper and 2 cardigans yesterday. I wished I'd worn my winter coat, because I was freezing. Really windy too. Raining today, and part of my fence blew down in the night.

I found the headline quite funny, with it's blatant mindfuckery 😂

If the Daily Express says it, I'd take it with a pinch of salt.

There are two possible upsides- maybe for those who get hay fever it is less bad than usual for June, and some of the sight for sore eyes that is British people bad dress sense in warmer weather won't be seen.

Hayfever sufferer here. Tree and grass.

It has been fucking miserable. No upsides from me.

I remember the last year I ever camped in the UK (last holiday in the UK tbh). We were at a site right next to the beach and dunes in Horsey, Norfolk in August. We had been there in June and it was lovely.

It was bloody freezing. I love sitting outside the tent in the evening with wine, chocolate and a book. At about half six we all went inside the tent and basically put on all our clothes and stayed there, huddled in sleeping bags. The highlight of the holiday was going round the Hemsby mega maze in the pissing rain.

The last night me and my son went for a last pee and it felt like November. Overnight here was a huge storm, caravans went over, tents were wrecked...

I love camping. But I have realised I love camping in France, far enough down for decent weather and cheap wine.

Tbh I prefer 19° with occasionally rainy days to heatwaves
