To think we are being lined up for something?

I work in food supply chain.
Four of the 'big' grocery retailers have just asked to renegotiate at least four weeks min supply, as opposed to two.
This happened in Feb 2020 as well.
Lots of rhetoric about being on a war footing, from politicos.
And then Sunak essentially jumping ship yesterday, as though he knows there is a crisis on the horizon that he wants no part of.
There is no way that the Tories have a prayer in a July election.
So what do they know that they aren't telling us?

We're being primed for a possible war from Russia. I do think it's coming soon.

If you're going to make statements like that don't you think you should outline the reasons why you think so?

The main ones.
Every little helps.
This is not just...
Etc.

Just off the back of this I can tell you’re chatting shit, OP.

M&S isn’t one of the big 4.

There is zero appetite in the UK for a war with Russia. If the choice is between Russia keeping the eastern provinces and Crimea and a war with Russia then quite frankly Russia can keep what they have illegally taken.

We will see in 3 months.

Something big is coming. Prepare accordingly.

I wish I had your free time.

I will be back too in 3 months when we see what;s up

Yeah I'd love to know what they do in the supply chain.

Are you sure? Pretty sure Protect and Survive films and booklets were never broadcast / published.

Parts of the pamphlet were discussed in the Times during the 70s
It was eventually published in 1980

You think Morrisons "knows" something and yet it hasn't already been leaked to the press by someone in the many layers of bureaucracy between the government and a shop-floor worker?

You don't think the more likely option is that they needed a high-vis jacket and found one lurking in a cupboard from 4 years ago?

Have to admit I love the idea of Morrisons as a sort of national oracle. They'd need a new slogan - 'prophets before profits' or something!

It's probably down to the secondary petri dish conditions of people using those sardine cans (aeroplanes) to go on holiday. Covid is rife, cases of measles, whooping cough and TB are on the rise. All this means factories will have less workers, truckers won't be driving etc etc.

Then you have the French blocking the ports or air traffic control on strike every summer as they try to convince their government of something so nothing will be coming across from Europe. Pensions, farmers, petrol...

So no conspiracies - just another usual shit summer for us all - and that's before we moan about the non stop rain Blush

I think you are probably right. It's also shortly when visas are going to be needed of sorts to visit EU countries.

Sadly, there is a chance of war, a short one as it may quickly turn nuclear
The gutter press has been banging on about a "war with russia soon" for a long while now

Sadly, the gutter press could be correct as our lame gov is considering allowing our missiles etc to be used against Russia on russia soil and that is certainly a red line for russia.

russia would start out by attacking Englands bases in the ukraine and it will escalate or not from there

IMO, there is a bigger potential of a misunderstanding of a nuclear attack creating a real one

IMO, this may come first - a massive cyber attack on our gas and eltrics network followed up by a banking cyber attack along with attack on the NHS.
IMO, I may be wrong, NHS IT systems are not as robust as banking and utultires

I hope I am wrong but I hit covid on the head and was warning people it was an even like never seen before in the world in modern times and everyone laughed, I was saying this in Nov 2019

What a life when it's spent wondering if a pandemic or war is coming!

Dahliasinallotment · 24/05/2024 13:04

I suspect is there is Armageddon my family doesn’t really have the skill set to survive, and a few extra tins in the cupboard won’t make much difference to our chances.

But the tins and water might help in a natural disaster while we wait for relief aid. That seems sensible.

Mumsnet seems extra twitchy this week. Do we suspect bots may be trying to influence national mood in an election cycle. My Paranoia will extend that far.

BlackFriYay · 24/05/2024 13:05

I spent days metaphorically shitting myself when threads like this started appearing when covid hit, then again when Putin started his sabre rattling about nuclear weapons. It all gets a bit too much for people who have a tendency to panic and get stuck in a doom mindset. I clearly haven't learned my lesson though as here I am again, reading the same shit, years later.

If anybody else reading is like me, can I suggest you hide the thread and look after your mental health? I will be doing so after I post this 🙁

OVienna · 24/05/2024 13:05

It isn't that stupid a concept.
This is what happened in food supply in 2020.

That’s good info to have , makes you wonder . Since 2020 we always have at least q month supply of food as an emergency . People used to joke when at the hight of Brexit I decided to have 3 months , then Covid hit and guess who didn’t need to panic at all food wise , we had plenty of pasta and toilet paper to share

badatdecisions · 24/05/2024 13:07

They are doing a July election because:

Due to the way the parliament dates fall, there's no way Labour can actually pass any laws till October, so they can say Labour is doing nothing/failing, and also stop Labour actually being able to improve things for months.

Old people (i.e. Tory voters) are more likely to get out and vote at that time of year vs winter. Currently, they have a strong chance of stopping Labour having a majority government just by winning a few key seats. Labour isn't doing as well as the hype.

They can sack off all the doomed to fail policies like Rwanda while saving face and pretending they would have worked out.

Rishi already has plans to spend winter in California so he wants time to prep for that, wrap everything up, move his stuff etc.

We are woefully unprepared for a war, all the eastern countries and the US and even Japan and Australia have been actively preparing for months. As usual, we will do f all until the eleventh hour.

Just found this as i hear a bot about it a couple of days ago and dismissed it - better to have a few extra cans and candles and batteries as its always sensible to do so for power cuts etc

Ha that's exactly what I thought when I saw the "should I feel guilty for receiving a large amount of universal credit" thread the other week, with the OP rustling everybody's feathers going on about how she receives thousands.

I thought to myself, it's very convenient timing to start pissing off a forum with a sizable % of middle class users. That's one way to temp somebody to vote Tory.

Nottodaythankyou123 · 24/05/2024 06:39

I sometimes wonder how many shares Rishi’s family, and other MPs’, own in supermarkets, and whether there’s any self interest in encouraging panic buying.

The Tories have always been about self interest. Maggie did the same and had to be forced out just like Boris.

But... quite a lot of people just love to slag off socialism, and appear to have very short memories.

Brefugee · 24/05/2024 13:17

sounds sensible to me. If people start panic buying (because of having to have 3 days worth of tinned beans and UHT milk) the supermarkets will soon look empty which leads to further panic buying. If they double from 2 to 4 weeks of inventory, that is less likely to happen.

Snippysocks · 24/05/2024 13:17

SwingVote · 24/05/2024 09:49

I did the vaccines last time because I could tell from the very basic trial data that Oxford was dangerous and was offered Pfizer in first week as a HCP.

I took it out of terror that if I didn’t get that one then, in all likelihood I might be forced to get the Oxford.

I was allergic to Pfizer. Very odd stuff happened to me and similar to fellow colleagues.

It feels like I have been very low level ill ever since. Then I had a child and that bouncing from illness to illness continued. It been years now since I felt well. I was saying to DP yesterday I hope one day I wake up and I realise it’s been months without illness.

So that might have been pure coincidence but I wouldn’t risk it. There’s no way I will take experimental vaccines again. I would give it a few years.

I had a very mild dose of Covid in January 2021 before I was offered the vaccination. I now have Long Covid....it's changed my life in so many ways, and I don't have LC as badly as many who are bedbound by it. I'd advise everyone to have the vaccination. A few have reacted badly to the vaccine, but there are about 1 1/2 million with LC.
