I saw on the BAFTA’s the other night that she got some special award and I was genuinely wondering does anyone like her? I’ve never known anyone who does so I wanted to ask on here.
Personally I have no idea how she’s kept a job on tv for so long and can only assume that she’s got a lot of dirt on people. In her acceptance speech she thank her Mum for her work ethic which I thought was quite funny as she only does 4 hours a week if she feels like it. Not to mention the whole tax avoidance thing. Just curious

I think she’s dreadful.

ApolloandDaphne · 16/05/2024 03:52

I've met her a few times. She is lovely, down to earth and good at putting people at their ease. I don't watch her on TV though so I can't comment on her on screen persona.

pantsalot · 16/05/2024 06:33

She didn't avoid tax, HMRC got it wrong. Same as they did with Kaye Adams. HMRC needs a big shake up.

AgentProvocateur · 16/05/2024 06:35

I’ve also met her through work and socially (friend of friend) and I find her to be genuine, funny and kind. I’ve never seen her TV show though.

CelesteCunningham · 16/05/2024 06:38

I don't know why she attracts so much flack for not working five days - loads of people, especially women, work part-time. She's presumably made plenty of money so if she wants a slower pace then good for her.

I don't think it was a tax dodge as such either.

Haven't seen her on TV for years so maybe she comes across terribly but someone must be watching or she'd be dropped.

Cluelessaf · 16/05/2024 06:41

Very unpleasant thread

pinkdelight · 16/05/2024 06:41

Four hours on the tv doesn't mean she's not there much longer prepping and setting up the coming shows etc. it's more likely four days for that and then other commitments, think she had newspaper columns and such, dunno if she still does. I'm not a fan or anything like it, but I like her persona and she's never reached Davina levels of ubiquity or annoyingness. She's a warm safe pair of hands kinda presence that long running shows need and is actually quite rare to achieve.

I never liked her show and thought she came across as quite condescending but then I saw her and her daughter on goggle box and realised that she is actually lovely and very funny. She seems to put on a bit of a persona for her daytime TV show and I think she'd be great hosting something else.

I like her.

whenimetyouinthesummer · 16/05/2024 06:47

I do like her but can tell a lot of it is an act. I think she’s said herself that her tv personality is an act. I didn’t realise she officially worked part-time. I know people cover her shows at different times but didn’t actually know she wasn’t meant to be on every day

I'm not keen on the format of shows like hers, but she is an interesting and warm person, from what I've seen/heard. She's written a book too, I've not yet read it though the story is based on a current popular theme (outdoor swimming). If you don't like her then that's fair enough, however nobody is forcing you to watch her.

Jifmicroliquid · 16/05/2024 06:52

She’s been on the TV for donkeys years and seems to have a good reputation amongst the people she works with.
Fair play to her.

Quite. Can't understand the benefit to the OP of focusing on negativity and unpleasantness.

flyingwingsabove · 16/05/2024 06:53

Woman works part time. Big deal. Awful post OP. May be research before posting OP.

Yirk · 16/05/2024 06:54

Seems like a nice person to me.

Oblomov24 · 16/05/2024 06:54

Eh? She's done a show for years and I've never heard anyone say a bad word about her!

Hippywannabe · 16/05/2024 06:55

I have met her a couple of times(and featured in a magasine shoot with her). She is lovely, funny and genuine. An issue with clothing happened (a brand they needed her to wear) and she was firm but so polite while she got it checked. She can stand up for herself which she will have needed to in her career but also is able to chat to people and make them feel at ease.

ClareBlue · 16/05/2024 06:56

I don't dislike her, as Sheldon would say

Mozzarellaballs · 16/05/2024 06:57

Didn't she dodge some tax thing because she said she is a persona of herself? Also I feel like when she is on her show she is pretending to be inerested and yes alot of pesenters will do that but you can tell with her, she just ooh's and ahh's as if she is just being talked at by somebody boring, says the same responses "ooh for goodness seeekes"

JanglingJack · 16/05/2024 06:58

The show is mainly boring, and I never used to like her. The impression I got was fake and just nice to every guest.

Then she slagged off Kevin Spacey and said he's the most nasty person she's ever met (words to that effect) so she went up in my opinion. Also her bitching about an old co-host, now MP or something.

I prefer that side of her 😁

ClareBlue · 16/05/2024 06:58

And having a job for a prolonged period of time doesn't mean you have the dirt on someone, it means you are doing it well and meeting whatever criteria they have set for the role.

I always thought she seemed genuine and lovely!
