To think that smoking weed outside in the summer is anti social

My neighbours are a couple in their late 50s, we get on ok but there's no love lost there- they complain about everyone else all of the time but never do wrong themselves.

Over the last 2 years they've developed a weed habit (it's medicinal apparently) and now the sun is out they seem to take turns chain smoking weed so our garden smells almost constantly of weed. If we leave the windows open it makes our house smell of it too so when they light up we have to close the windows.

Our gardens are narrow terraced gardens so we can't escape it. Aibu to think that constantly smoking weed in the summer when people around you want to use their gardens is anti social?

There’s a weird attitude to weed in the UK. People act as though it has been decriminalised (probably because it has in parts of the US) but here it is class B (one rung down from cocaine and heroin). It really shouldn’t be considered a socially acceptable drug.

I would say to report them to the police but I am sure that they have the wit to not have too much of it at any one time … they’ll leave the “intention to supply” charge to the kid on a scooter who supplies them.

You are spot on there.

I hate the smell of the stuff with a vengeance but the police resources are tied up to be able to deal with, which is why they target the dealers.

I have spoken to the police about it. The main road close to where I live reeeeeeeeks of weed! Crazy losers stoned at the wheel, if they had brains they'd be dangerous.

Ironically, there are a few on this thread that could use a joint

Yes, they need to unpurse their catbum mouths and see what all the fuss is about.

Is absolutely disgusting. Why do many think its ok? Also loath smokers and vapers.

glad i dont have neighbours. Seriously.

Pugdogmom · 12/05/2024 13:40

Not a fan at all. My neighbours smoke it. Luckily seems to be infrequently, but it stinks.

These things don't happen because of cannabis they happen because cannabis is prohibited and that drives it into the hands of criminals.
Cannabis should be legal for recreational as well as medicinal use and available at a reasonable price, if that happened no one would need to buy it illegally.
Growing your own should also be legal, that way you can legally get it for free.

Tell that to the parents of the murdered kids.

Thank you for your reply to my post. Can you explain what your point is please?
Do you disagree with me when I say that many of the problems associated with cannabis would be removed if cannabis were not prohibited?

Sorry for not looking properly at your suggestions.cant see legalisation happening anytime soon, too many forces at play...IE the conservative party.

Keir Starmer has said that he doesn’t plan to change the drugs laws if Labour get in. I think it more likely that tobacco will end up being banned for young people. It may be that my children won’t be able to legally buy cigarettes.

I totally get where the OP is coming from, Im also in a small terrace and my elderly neighbour constantly smokes weed. Everytime you open the window to the back it just smells like old cats piss out there!
He even used to sell it from his house as well....many police visits ensued but nothing could be done really as he never got caught.

It's antisocial regardless of the time of the year. At my work, get some customers that absolutely reek of weed, which affect my asthma. Fortunately now working on the shop floor, I can go in the back or outside for a few minutes to clear my lungs.

Had an asthma attack caused by having several customers coming in together stinking of weed.

I'm sure the variants of cannabis are getting more pungent in recent years

Yes, they need to unpurse their catbum mouths and see what all the fuss is about.

A couple of months ago, the Met had a big crackdown on drugs. There’s some stuff about it here: https://news.met.police.uk/news/almost-300-arrests-and-95-county-lines-shut-down-during-met-week-of-action-481169.

One of the results was that 210 vulnerable people were safeguarded. When people think of cannabis, I think they think of cheerful hippies growing plants in their back gardens … but the people running cannabis farms are the scum of the earth and the people buying cannabis are criminals who enable the abuse of vulnerable people.

Am I comfortable with judging people who buy cannabis from poor kids on scooters? Hell yes!

Met crackdown on drugs and exploitation of children and vulnerable adults

The Met uses a precise and data-led approach to pursue the ‘line holders’ who control where the drugs are distributed.
