RITA ORA- an example of all that is wrong with the world

I am being unreasonable, and not sure whether its jealousy or irritation that she has done so well with little discernible talent. However, she irritates me intensely for being presumably financially very successful for not wearing any clothes. MET Gala case in point. She is just such a narcissist. I know there are others out there, but she doesnt even have a crap reality show with her sisters

The thread title made me lol.

She's annoying for sure, but she's not Vladimir Putin levels of all that's wrong with the world. But she's young, she might yet catch up.

DisforDarkChocolate · 07/05/2024 12:08

As examples of things wrong with the world I'd focus on something that matters like child abuse, war and genocide, poverty and misogyny.

ellyoctober · 07/05/2024 12:08

Is she the one who held her spesh birthday party in a restaurant in lock down?

LadyKenya · 07/05/2024 12:09

She does wear clothes though. Maybe not to your taste, of course. There are lots of people out there in celebrity land, and beyond who seem to have done immensely well, on apparently questionable talent. The World is not a fair place.

peeweemermaid · 07/05/2024 12:09

Oh guess mumsnet not the place for over exaggeration as a form of humour. Is there an emoji for eye roll

Have you seen the photos from the Met gala There is limited cloth or stitching so I would argue definitely not a dress

I think anyone who’s rich and famous will be a narcissist as you kinda need to be to trample on others to get yourself to the top. However Rita ora is such a random celeb to call out specifically. Theres far worse untalented awful people out there

Soigneur · 07/05/2024 12:11

Yes, how dare an Albanian refugee find success in her adoptive home, have a number one single and album and over a dozen top ten hits, become an honorary ambassador for her maternal country, and go on to be adored by millions. She should be sent to Rwanda!

PalomaColumbine · 07/05/2024 12:12

I got vibes of that lass that Kanye keeps parading about with very little on. Like we’re taking part in someone else’s fantasy.

LesmisPhantom · 07/05/2024 12:12

I am somewhat baffled by her too. She was never really a big star and her songs were very average, yet she seems to have done so well. I think being married to Taika Waitiki has helped put her name out there.

Dua Lipa is another one who seems to be mixing with A-listers now that I’m similarly confused by.

peeweemermaid · 07/05/2024 12:13

I dont think her refugee status has much to do with my point as I am fairly sure she is a UK citizen, but you do you

It looks like she got tangled up in one of those dangly insect door curtains circa 1970.

If you think Rita Ora is bad - TRY THIS! 😱😂🙄

Bear Grylls ‘helped baptise Russell Brand’ in River Thames (msn.com)

I'd heard Russell Brand had had a come to God moment (totally sincere I'm sure, and not at all an aid to his current grift) but hadn't realised Bear Grylls was in on it too.

Bleurgh.

Would be an awful shame if they caught a month long dose of diarrhea from the Thames water.

Beatrixslobber · 07/05/2024 12:15

If I had her figure I wouldn’t wear clothes either.

It was the met gala, people dress to shock. The more shocking the more publicity. It’s not narcissistic if that’s your job. It would look bizarre if they wore twinsets and pearls.

SpringOnionChicken · 07/05/2024 12:15

Good on her for being successful but I can’t listen to her music. It’s just not good.

Yep, another Albanian who doesn't know her place...

Honestly, the hatred that successful refugees and immigrants get on Mumsnet is off the scale.

Yes! Its 🙄 and just the right amount of sass I think.

There are a lot of rumours/blinds about her being a yacht girl, so that might explain it! Shes also married to a famous film director so I guess she just runs in those circles.

I agree though! I liked a couple of her songs but I'm always suprised she hasn't disappeared into obscurity

FineWordsForAPorcupine · 07/05/2024 12:17

I think its catty to say she's "presumably financially very successful for not wearing any clothes". Isn't she more famous for being a multi-award winning, higly successful music artist?

Oh but sorry, I was forgetting - women should be judged on how they dress not on their achievements. Especially if they are clutches pearls and sucks teeth, drops voice to a whisper a bit trampy.

Ikeashowroom · 07/05/2024 12:17

I'd argue that she has a lot more talent than the reality show sisters you were trying to knock. She's actually released a couple of albums and been in a few films. She has also been on the voice somewhere and a few other TV hosting gigs.

I'm under no illusions that her looks haven't held her career back in anyway and have helped her to keep the lights on when her music career took a bit of a nose dive. But I can't hate her.

BrassedOffTiggy · 07/05/2024 12:17

I couldn't call out Rita specifically as there are just too many vacuous celebrities to choose from but I get your thinking generally, OP...I mean, who are they? What are they for?? (Channeling Nikki Grahame there, bless her RIP)

This. Narcissism is par for the course in the entertainment business.

Why dont you get a grip. The only person mentioning her refugee status is you. Frankly I wasnt even aware of it, because I generally put Rita Ora in the box of over hyped, under clothed, irritating and talentless twats - however, I note that is unreasonable, but not due to her refugee status
