I am being unreasonable, and not sure whether its jealousy or irritation that she has done so well with little discernible talent. However, she irritates me intensely for being presumably financially very successful for not wearing any clothes. MET Gala case in point. She is just such a narcissist. I know there are others out there, but she doesnt even have a crap reality show with her sisters

I mean I wouldn’t wear that…. It looks like one of my nightmares when I’ve walked into work naked

But her choice I guess.

CareerChanger1 · 07/05/2024 14:00

Poor Rita 🤣

There was so much nudity at the MET Gala last night - much more than usual I thought!

Her husband looks like someone skinned a turd to make his suit

KreedKafer · 07/05/2024 14:02

I struggle to get my head round people who get angry about this kind of thing. Nobody's asking you to invite the woman round for dinner.

wibblywobblywoo · 07/05/2024 14:03

Is she the one who's hairstyle looked like she'd had a bucket of water thrown over her? And her costume was a Bianca Censori style nude bodystocking with some lametta on her shoulders. It just looked so 'trying too hard'.

Engaea · 07/05/2024 14:03

peeweemermaid · 07/05/2024 12:09

Oh guess mumsnet not the place for over exaggeration as a form of humour. Is there an emoji for eye roll

Can be, it just needs to be, you know, funny.

KreedKafer · 07/05/2024 14:04

Also, people do know she was wearing a full body stocking under the beaded curtain thing, right?! She was actually covered up right down to the ankle.

It's practically work wear. I'm inspired. Just off to Tesco now in my tights and fly curtain.

It literally is work wear if you're a pop star.

Is she the one who held her spesh birthday party in a restaurant in lock down?

And then preached about her mum, an NHS hero…

Exactly. And there were many many more outrageous oufits.

shearwater2 · 07/05/2024 14:19

I don't care for her latest outfit but she is definitely NOT all that is wrong with the world. If only someone wearing a bodystocking and their granny's bead curtain was all we had to worry about.

Really do share. I knew it was unreasonable picking on Rita.... I think really for me it is about this is what young girls aspire to as opposed to someone with actual talent. And no I don't think having a passable voice and signing other peoples tunes is talent nor is dressing up in the restaurants curtains to separate the kitchen from the main room and passing it off as art is talented. Nor are her alleged other skills. Personally, I think showing your arse cheeks and tits with a see through body stocking is bloody dull these days and saying it is avante garde or feminist is a real step back from the principles of feminism and equality and rather pathetic.

Rita Ora and 'music' in the same sentence has baffled me.

crumblingschools · 07/05/2024 14:29

If the body stocking is see through not sure that counts as being covered up

SleepingStandingUp · 07/05/2024 14:31

She's hardly doing nothing but getting her butt cheeks out. She's a successful singer who's had countless hits, has a slew of presenting/ judge rolls under her belt and a sprinkling of TV work. She isn't known for getting naked, she's known for her work. Her music isn't my taste and I'm too fat for that little clothing, but at least she has the confidence to carry it off. Dojo Cat should take lessons

margymary · 07/05/2024 14:32

Can someone tell me her popular song?

this is my fave post of the day 😂

Google exists. But since you ask: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rita_Ora_discography

LesmisPhantom · 07/05/2024 12:12

I am somewhat baffled by her too. She was never really a big star and her songs were very average, yet she seems to have done so well. I think being married to Taika Waitiki has helped put her name out there.

Dua Lipa is another one who seems to be mixing with A-listers now that I’m similarly confused by.

She's been married two years. Her music career goes back twice. It's really odd to suggest she's only been successful in the last few years

I get so tired of adult women being castigated for not being role models to young girls when that's not their job. Famous men act like shits and nobody cares what young boys might think. Female singer wears a revealing outfit at an event literally famous for crazy outfits and she's morally responsible For The Children.

The industry she's in is largely controlled by men - women may be singing and dancing but men are waving them through and making the business and marketing decisions. If you want to hold anyone responsible for the deleterious effect on young girls, blame them. All Rita did was sing a song and wear a dress.

You can't Google?

PontiacFirebird · 07/05/2024 14:40

I don’t know much about Rita Oras music, but as for whoever mentioned Dua Lipa- I LOVE her songs! Especially New Rules. I expect she also gets her baps out at awards ceremonies but I don’t mind.

Yes, how dare an Albanian refugee find success in her adoptive home, have a number one single and album and over a dozen top ten hits, become an honorary ambassador for her maternal country, and go on to be adored by millions. She should be sent to Rwanda!

Adored by millions!! Who? Has anyone ever met a Rita Ora fan in real life?

I personally don’t understand it either OP. She’s a mystery to me.
