RITA ORA- an example of all that is wrong with the world

I am being unreasonable, and not sure whether its jealousy or irritation that she has done so well with little discernible talent. However, she irritates me intensely for being presumably financially very successful for not wearing any clothes. MET Gala case in point. She is just such a narcissist. I know there are others out there, but she doesnt even have a crap reality show with her sisters

The most striking, elegant, classy and stylish woman at that event was Pamela Anderson. So many "fashion" designers clearly hate women between making them naked and the sack cloth dresses beloved by Style and Beauty the female form is seemingly no longer celebrated more thrown to the wolves under the guise of female empowerment.

Yep, another Albanian who doesn't know her place...

Honestly, the hatred that successful refugees and immigrants get on Mumsnet is off the scale.

... are you ok?

Funny that, considering I’m a Muslim refugee too who didn’t become a British citizen until I was a pre teen. I’m one of the first to call out the blatant racism and Islamophobia on Mumsnet.

But yes, you can carry on assuming that I’m looking down on them because they are also refugees…

Hobnobswantshernameback · 07/05/2024 12:21

She speaks very highly of you too OP

Alltheunreadbooks · 07/05/2024 12:22

All Power to the Ora!

She's worked hard with what she's got, and has managed to bag and hold some very high profile presenting and panel jobs.

She can sing , dance and is good value on whatever show she appears on.

Commenting on her dress sense , well you've missed the point of the Met Gala but she can dress how she wants.

Love the poster who has chucked in the insanely talented Dua Lipa in as well, who is headlining Glastonbury, to the ' I don't get it' snark.

My favourite twitter theory is that she's something to do with money laundering. She's not successful (all her music fails now) but keeps popping up everywhere.

I couldn't call out Rita specifically as there are just too many vacuous celebrities to choose from but I get your thinking generally, OP...I mean, who are they? What are they for?? (Channeling Nikki Grahame there, bless her RIP)

Youre absolutely right. My DM scrolling led me to her and the over hyping and hence financial success of this vacuous idiots is very annoying. Perhaps also showing my age, but Rita ORA as a successful music artist, must have been living under a rock for 20 years because I cant think of one song!

Maybe not an example of what is wrong with the world, but definitely an example of vulgarity and tackiness.

She looks ridiculous in that 'dress' at the Met gala and desperate for attention.

Basically the type of low-rent celebrity that got lucky but does not really have real talent to maintain a decent career and longevity so relies on cheap publicity stunts to keep herself in the media spotlight.

Best ignored I think.

Coshei · 07/05/2024 12:24

I don’t understand what the problem is. She is a very beautiful woman.

That was me who mentioned Dua Lipa. I did not know that. It sounds like I’m showing my age and no longer know who’s doing well musically…

Can I blame it on having two young children which limits my musical knowledge rather than my age…?

ClipClopperDontStopper · 07/05/2024 12:25

I suppose she’s brought some glamour back to the name Rita. That’s one that been in the doldrums for a while. I never expected to see a popstar called Rita.

Janjk · 07/05/2024 12:26

My goodness. That's not an outfit. I couldn't care less about Rita Ora but she looks ridiculous.

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/05/2024 12:26

Meh. Can’t get worked up about the clothing choices of someone I don’t personally know. Much more important things to think about.

Coshei · 07/05/2024 12:24

Would you see a problem if she was an unattractive woman?

ClipClopperDontStopper · 07/05/2024 12:28

I find Jess Glynne more annoying though. She’s made me scared to get on a Jet2 flight. Or to hold anyone’s hand.

Coshei · 07/05/2024 12:28

LadyKenya · 07/05/2024 12:26

Why would I have a problem with it then? I probably just wouldn’t notice her then.

edwinbear · 07/05/2024 12:29

Given the access to money and dress designers she no doubt has, I'm amazed she decided to go with that one. But an awful lot of them seem to be wearing these flesh coloured set ups. Certainly wouldn't be my choice of outfit, but it's got her press coverage which I think is the whole point of the Met. As long as she felt comfortable and wasn't pushed into wearing it by anyone, totally up to her I guess.

Halfheadhighlights · 07/05/2024 12:31

She’s a singer and actress.

so it’s wrong to say she has no discernible talent

Crushed23 · 07/05/2024 12:33

Soigneur · 07/05/2024 12:11

Yes, how dare an Albanian refugee find success in her adoptive home, have a number one single and album and over a dozen top ten hits, become an honorary ambassador for her maternal country, and go on to be adored by millions. She should be sent to Rwanda!

Her mum is a doctor and she grew up relatively well off, so she is not your average ‘refugee’.

That aside, I agree with you. I don’t really understand the hate.

FloofyBear · 07/05/2024 12:34

Are people offended because nipples are on show?

What happened to ‘free the nipple’?!

KittyCollar · 07/05/2024 12:38

Well I think she’s very pretty and she doesn’t bother me at all. In fact I’ve just bought one of her blusher brushes in Tesco 🤭

BakedTattie · 07/05/2024 12:40

The whole of the met gala just seemed to be a competition of who could wear the least amount of clothing

Starsandflowers · 07/05/2024 12:44

Things are worth what people will pay for them rightly or wrongly. People buy her music. Lots of people. Not me but I can't say I'm that annoyed by her.. I mean good for her if she can make a living doing what she likes. Not everything has to cater to me. And tbh altho I do know her name I couldn't name a single one of her songs nor identify her in a lineup... amd I watch TV and listen to the radio, go outside, see magazines.. have still managed to not have her really register so I struggle to believe she's really that pervasive. Just some pop star that people like. And that's fine. Like others have said, what's she really done wrong? Blown her own trumpet. Believed in herself in an unbritish manner 🤣

I do get on a general level, the envy of people with such confidence... you are lucky if you haven't been beaten down by life and have that much belief in your own abilities. I'll grant you I do envy that.
