RITA ORA- an example of all that is wrong with the world

I am being unreasonable, and not sure whether its jealousy or irritation that she has done so well with little discernible talent. However, she irritates me intensely for being presumably financially very successful for not wearing any clothes. MET Gala case in point. She is just such a narcissist. I know there are others out there, but she doesnt even have a crap reality show with her sisters

I mean I think there is a lot worse in the world but I do get what you mean OP. She seems to have a certain level of fame, but doesn't seem to actually have very much she has has personally done. I know people will say she released an album and had several top 10 songs but so did the members of s club 7 and Joss Stone yet they have faded away into relative obscurity.
She must have an amazing PR team.

You do sound jealous and perhaps bored

Oh definitely jealous as I rocked the 9 to 5, was clearly skiving, and I thought, wtf is she wearing and wtf is she there.

@Allfur

What's a butter face? Whatever, she's v pretty

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain is playing down what she means. She is being pretty vile about Rita Ora. Butterface or Butters means butt-ugly. Let's see a photograph of you @Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain !!! Hmm

To me I don’t find Rita Ora attractive. Dressing the way she does does not help her.

I am not posting a photo of me here but I was considered very pretty when younger. That was a long time ago.

I did actually say after I wrote the butters comment about Rita that I did think she has some attractive features facially but put altogether, sorry I find her weird looking. Maybe I’m not used to Kosovan/Albanian looks.

and to @MaryMack sorry but to me 33 is not young anymore, I suppose it’s just on the right side of young and for Rita she’ll use that excuse that she’s young so she can dress like a cheap woman. Her dress sense has always seemed to me to attract attention though.

I watched a BBC documentary on her last year and it was quite interesting concentrated on her siblings and basically how most of what she’s done is to help them, her in their lives. To be fair to her, as she’s from a war torn country I can’t say I blame her behaviour really. She just really lacks class though and this dress just proves that.

3luckystars · 07/05/2024 22:14

I love Pamela Anderson.

WalkingThroughTreacle · 07/05/2024 22:15

Maybe we should share the blame around the industry and audience, rather than the female artists who have to leverage their sexuality to be successful, whether they like it or not.

Society is the problem. We are all part of society so we are all part of the problem. Unless you have steadfastly refused to watch a film or TV program or buy a magazine that includes gratuitously sexualised women then you are complicit, whether you care to admit it or not. But hey, you crack on and denigrate the likes of Rita Ora for simply playing the game by the rules that you tolerate at best and enthusiastically encourage at worst.

3luckystars · 07/05/2024 22:15

Butter face means ‘she has a lovely body, but her face…..’

= butter face

You sounds so bitter and jealous of Rita Ora @peeweemermaid 😆

The more people tell you YABU, the more angry you're getting. Why post on AIBU. and then throw your toys out of your cot when people challenge you on it?

Also, Rota Ora's ethnic origin is not Albanian. It's Kosovan! 🙄

She was born in Kosovo, her parents are Albanian. So you're totally wrong.

Perhaps it’s you who’s ‘weird looking’ or even just plain old racist?

Rita is very talented and attractive to people not looking at her through bitch lenses. My DC are half Kosovan Albanian with the same almond shaped eyes (throwback to the Ottoman Empire) and have always been considered and commented on as very beautiful.

I love most of her music actually (nothing to do with DH being Kosovan!), Anywhere, Let You Love Me, For You, Coming Home, Body on Me, Lonely Together, Ritual, You For Me, Black Widow (one of my favs) - listen to the faster ones at the gym. She was very genuine on the talent shows and had made lots of money.

Envy is not an attractive look.

She is an ethnic Albanian born in Kosovo to ethnic Albanian parents who fled the Serbian military occupation which later led to the ethnic cleansing of Albanians and the war in 1999.

Shakespeareandi · 07/05/2024 22:43

Had to google her outfit expecting something atrocious. It's fine! What's wrong with that? She looks cool, it's obviously not an everyday look but for the Met gala. I think she looks great. I heard her in a radio interview years ago, and she was really funny. Talking about what her mum thought of some of her more extreme outfits. She seemed nice and funny. Her OH is very attractive and I thought his outfit was different and looked nice too.
Let's not bring each other down. She hasn't harmed you in any way. Don't be a bully or a mean girl, you don't know them.
And if you think someone is talentless etc, that's just your opinion and as such, irrelevant. Perhaps focus on people you do like rather than people you don't like.

Charlottedancer · 07/05/2024 22:44

peeweemermaid · 07/05/2024 12:23

Youre absolutely right. My DM scrolling led me to her and the over hyping and hence financial success of this vacuous idiots is very annoying. Perhaps also showing my age, but Rita ORA as a successful music artist, must have been living under a rock for 20 years because I cant think of one song!

'Wish that I could let you love, wish that I could let you love me...what's the matter, what's the matter we me , what's the matter with me, oh...'

Come on guys, she has some catchy tunes even if its pop music, and she's beautiful to look at.

I get a down to earth vibe from her....yeah she's in that world and has to do that stuff for her job, but anytime I've watched her, she seems really endearing.

Hate the game, not the woman.

I’m not envious at all!

I just don’t like her character (a couple of people here have said she’s not very nice) and she has discernible talent to me and obvs OP too.

I’ve got almond shaped eyes too but otherwise my ancestry is plain old boring British and direct German/french, so more blonde blue eyed Caucasian.

My brother’s ex girlfriend is Albanian and sort of looks like Rita does.

You’re obviously biased due to your DH being Kosovan. A distant cousin of mine is actually married to a Kosovan woman who owns and runs her own tv station and has 2 DDs but I’ve got no idea if they’re proud of their fellow countrywoman or not.

Bloody hilarious that basically you’re sticking up for Rita based on the fact that your DH is Kosovan and your DDs are too. Find your own argument not based on that fact would be a good idea.

And I’m not saying all Kosovans/Albanians are ugly as you seem to think I’m implying. Just Ms Ora. Wink

nothingsforgotten · 07/05/2024 22:49

RosyappleA · 07/05/2024 15:06

I wouldn’t call her out specifically but yes that outfit screams, “I need to stay relevant, google me.”
That sleazeball she married did make me think what the hell.
Majority in that industry are narcissists to me.

Sleazeball ????????? Please explain.

NotTidyAtAll · 07/05/2024 22:49

To be honest, I’m sick of so many famous women going out in their underwear or less.

Female pop stars on stage, in their knickers/ pants.

Do the men dress like this? No

What is it showing girl's growing up about their worth? , that their value is how naked they can be.

Its just really sad.

nothingsforgotten · 07/05/2024 23:02

Sandytoesandcrabs · 07/05/2024 17:45

I quite like her. I like anyone who does well for themselves and think she can dress how she wants. Very un mumsnetty. I can’t ever imagine being irritated by such things

I agree. I couldn't care less what anyone wears, and people are actually allowed to wear whatever they want. Presumably she chose her outfit, so was happy to wear it, and what has it got to do with any of the rest of us?

It seems the MN perpetually offended have now become the perpetually irritated.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 07/05/2024 23:07

I just think it’s terribly sad that all of these young beautiful women are in such a position that they feel that they have to appear in public nearly naked in order for what? Attention? Likes? Photo ops? I don’t see any men appearing virtually naked at events; and I don’t think anyone would be ogling at them if they did.

nothingsforgotten · 07/05/2024 23:09

AboutYouTalk · 07/05/2024 19:23

Where are the men with their arse’s hanging out? Her husband is also a massive attention seeker, all covered up tho whilst he stands next to her half naked for the world to see….

So if he wore a body stocking and a curtain of beads that would be fine?

Okay then Confused

BustyLee · 07/05/2024 23:15

nothingsforgotten · 07/05/2024 23:09

It would be great if he wore the beads over a bodystocking. It would look bloody ridiculous, but we're so used to women rocking looks like that. I can't imagine what it feels like to be walking around as though you're naked when all the men are covered up from head to toe.

Yes, let's see men's bum and the suggestion of their penises (what is the plural for penis? Peni?). Why not?

FrangipaniBlue · 07/05/2024 23:20

I know someone who has met her (on multiple occasions) and they said she's really not a very nice person, particularly to those she considers "staff".

Windypants21 · 07/05/2024 23:21

NonPlayerCharacter · 07/05/2024 20:57

it's a stretch to say i implied all women who dressed scantily were talentless

No, you just said that you thought they were. "When I see women scantily dressed I think they have little talent." Even while accepting Ora does have talent, so you know it's nonsense but you do it anyway. Good to see you have accepted that the problem is actually your attitude.

Such ridiculous judgements (a woman's dress has nothing to do with how well she sings, acts, writes, plumbs or treats other people) are one way by which women are exploited, so if you're so anxious that they should be treated like people and judged on what they do rather than what they wear, you know where to start.

Stop using systemic exploitation of women to whitewash your own sexism about women's clothing. You aren't fighting it, you're perpetuating it.

Edited

Because i would prefer women to wear beautiful clothes to promote themselves I am the ruination of society, sexist and exploiting women?

And all of the Kardashians and Emily R, would be on the front of the papers/magazines if they wore trousers and a turtleneck because they are so talented? No they wouldn't, because no paper/ news outlet would be interested in what they had to say/sell.

Adele, Taylor Swift, Celine Dion just need to step out their door to be on the front of the paper or to sell their music, even if they wore a tent. Rita Ora has a great voice but needs the exposure to stay front and centre.....why....because flesh (especially womens) sells papers, the more elaborate that is the more likely youll make the front page, and so get noticed or stay noticed. These aren't my values or rules, this is the society we are in today, Call me what you will but to me this ' need' to be semi naked is just another exploitation of women.

Years ago we had Page 3 of The Sun 'Newspaper' I didn't like it then and i don't like this version now.

Runnerduck34 · 07/05/2024 23:26

Just had to google this! saw a video clip and tbh she looked pretty uncomfortable and self conscious.
It looked like a long beaded tabard with an american tan tights body suit underneath- but she was clearly holding the front crutch area in place very carefully every time she moved.
It is very sad that successful women -or any woman- feels they need to dress in a very revealing, not to mention totally impractical, way, to market their sexuality and their body especially when it makes them feel vulnerable and they cant move freely. As usual was in direct contrast to the fully clothed man in a suit she was standing next too, whose only body parts on show were his face and his hands!
As a mum of 3 girls I do despair that this is still the social norms our children are exposed too.

Why dont you get a grip. The only person mentioning her refugee status is you. Frankly I wasnt even aware of it, because I generally put Rita Ora in the box of over hyped, under clothed, irritating and talentless twats - however, I note that is unreasonable, but not due to her refugee status

I like you can we be friends ha!?

I don't get her at all. I thought she looked awful.

Looking at the carpet it was full of narcissistic people. Also JLo gone off her majorly. I think she is definitely narcissistic.

peeweemermaid · 07/05/2024 23:38

You have absolutely nailed it.
