To put my wife’s peanut butter in the fridge

I want to preface by saying that me and my wife both pick up after each other a fair bit, we aren’t the tidiest but certainly not the messiest couple and we find each one fixing the problems we see works better than nagging each other for missing this and that.

I recently switched from brown source to mayonnaise and I do sometimes leave it out on the counter. I couldn’t find it and my wife had put it in the cupboard not the fridge when tidying up.

I mentioned that it goes in the fridge not the cupboard and she joked that I should put it away myself.

All light hearted, no fighting but over the last couple of weeks it’s happened and I’ve mentioned it about four times and it’s happened again and I’m not sure how to mention it again without seeming like I’m nagging.

also every morning she forgets to put the peanut butter away and I put it in the cupboard before I get my breakfast. It just happens in our current routine that she has breakfast first and we don’t share, not perfect but is what it is.

Anyway this morning I decided to put her peanut butter on the fridge instead of the cupboard, I’m hoping she’ll find it funny and when she next seas mayonnaise remember the peanut butter and put it in the fridge.

however I’m worried it might come across as petty, we don’t really do practical jokes or pranks.

What a ridiculous thing to do grow up

skippy67 · 05/04/2024 13:08

Peanut butter lives in a cupboard in our house.

NCfor24 · 05/04/2024 13:08

Petty.... It's not a mistake so I wouldn't take that well.

breakfastdinnerandtea · 05/04/2024 13:09

This is the kind of thing we would do in our house as a joke, but I'm sure someone will come along soon and say that you're being unreasonable, abusive, controlling, and that your wife should leave you. I'm sure she'll see the funny side of it.

To put my wife’s peanut butter in the fridge
Screamingabdabz · 05/04/2024 13:10

Hilarious. I’m sure.

PossumintheHouse · 05/04/2024 13:11

So funny. What a jape.

MonsteraMama · 05/04/2024 13:11

Both of you should just put your own condiments away!

However this is the sort of thing I'd do to my husband. He's terrible for leaving his bloody hot sauces lying about all over the house, so I like hiding them in the most unlikely cupboards. He can't say a word because I wouldn't do it if he didn't keep leaving them out 🤷‍♀️ if it's a running joke between the two of you I'd imagine she'd find this funny. I would. Although cold peanut butter makes me shudder.

However you're on Mumsnet so you're about to be told all the reasons you're awful and your wife should divorce you. Enjoy!

MrsMitford3 · 05/04/2024 13:11

You sound absolutely exhausting to live with.

InTheShallowTheShalalalalalalalow · 05/04/2024 13:13

The way I LOL'd .....

Have you ever considered just putting the mayo away yourself rather than telling your wife she's doing it wrong?

flipent · 05/04/2024 13:13

I would probably find it funny - but I'm not your wife!

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 05/04/2024 13:14

Its passive aggressive which is why its an issue. Its not being done as a joke but to teach her a lesson. Maybe the correct lesson is you learning to put your own condiment away.

Rowanthetree · 05/04/2024 13:15

Omg hilarious!!!!!!

😕

KreedKafer · 05/04/2024 13:17

I think if your idea of a ‘prank’ is to put a food product in a different place to where you usually keep it, then maybe jokes are really not for you.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 05/04/2024 13:17

Childish.

and

doesn't peanut butter go harder if kept in the fridge ?

and yes put away your own mayo as it is a product that should be kept in a fridge,
unlike peanut butter which can stay out all day on a kitchen counter.

Pigeonqueen · 05/04/2024 13:18

Really petty.

Newcrocs · 05/04/2024 13:18

Put it away yourself and you wouldn't have to nag would you 🙄

lazyarse123 · 05/04/2024 13:24

If you're using it every day just leave it out. If either of you cared you'd put your own shit away.

Hoardasurass · 05/04/2024 13:24

Wow what a passive aggressive twat
If you want your mayonnaise in the fridge then put it there yourself

TimesChangeAgain · 05/04/2024 13:26

Of course it’s petty.

If you don’t like your mayo in the cupboard, put it in the fridge yourself!

MyNameIsFine · 05/04/2024 13:26

Absolutely unreasonable! she should definitely divorce you! 😂

MyNameIsFine · 05/04/2024 13:30

Mumsnet is becoming more and more ridiculous. These comments! Yes, there's a danger she won't see it as a joke and just be annoyed you put it in the fridge. However, if this is an issue that's really bothering you (the mayonnaise could go off!) then it is one way to start a conversation. 😁

AtrociousCircumstance · 05/04/2024 13:33

I don’t blame you. She’s being petty if anyone is, refusing to put the mayo back in the fridge where it will stay fresh.

I think you’re kind putting the pb in the fridge and not hiding it in her wellington boot or somewhere 😁

mrlistersgelfbride · 05/04/2024 13:35

If this is the main thing you have to thing about today I envy you
