To put my wife’s peanut butter in the fridge

I want to preface by saying that me and my wife both pick up after each other a fair bit, we aren’t the tidiest but certainly not the messiest couple and we find each one fixing the problems we see works better than nagging each other for missing this and that.

I recently switched from brown source to mayonnaise and I do sometimes leave it out on the counter. I couldn’t find it and my wife had put it in the cupboard not the fridge when tidying up.

I mentioned that it goes in the fridge not the cupboard and she joked that I should put it away myself.

All light hearted, no fighting but over the last couple of weeks it’s happened and I’ve mentioned it about four times and it’s happened again and I’m not sure how to mention it again without seeming like I’m nagging.

also every morning she forgets to put the peanut butter away and I put it in the cupboard before I get my breakfast. It just happens in our current routine that she has breakfast first and we don’t share, not perfect but is what it is.

Anyway this morning I decided to put her peanut butter on the fridge instead of the cupboard, I’m hoping she’ll find it funny and when she next seas mayonnaise remember the peanut butter and put it in the fridge.

however I’m worried it might come across as petty, we don’t really do practical jokes or pranks.

So many of you need to lighten up. I'd see the funny side.

Yes, we all clearly have a stick up our arses because we don't find this funny 🙄Where is the humour?

Hankunamatata · 05/04/2024 14:14

Reasonable imo. I'd be annoyed if mayo went into the cupboard as it should be cold

Same here. My ex would have taken this as a terrible personal attack and given me the silent treatment. My current partner and I would be giggling over it. For instance, he makes the bed in the morning. Just the thing he does. I, very annoying, will get my clothes for the day and leave whatever longline cardigan I plan to wear on the bed to pick up before I go. He has to move it each time to make the bed and asks me not to, so now when I do it, I come back into the bedroom and he will be wearing it over his boxer shorts whilst cheerily making the bed, or sometimes lying on the bed in the “draw me like one of your French girls” titanic style. It’s just a stupid thing he does when I leave stuff lying! And we find it funny.

I think you live in a family of fools like I do!

Tit for tatt doesn’t a healthy relationship make.

WhatFlavourIsIt · 05/04/2024 14:19

Petty or not, peanut butter lives in the fridge, jar upside down.

blacksax · 05/04/2024 14:19

It must be a laugh a minute in your house.

BobbyBiscuits · 05/04/2024 14:23

Put it in the freezer.
Next thing you know your shampoo has been swapped for hair removal cream...

Peanut butter lives in a cupboard in our house.

Missed the point entirely

This is such a tiresome, not funny, ridiculous mumsnet response.
Why do posters keep doing it? Kids are not on mumsnet posting joke threads. This isn’t a funny little quip. It’s stupid.

Bloody hell! Why did this get to you so much? What an odd response to such an innocent comment. Like everything else said on this thread is sooo original.

K0OLA1D · 05/04/2024 14:32

Just put the mayo back!!! Jesus

SabreIsMyFave · 05/04/2024 14:35

Are you and your wife what this book was based on @DefendingPan ?

I agree. 'when do schools go back?' and 'is it the school holidays?' are such naff and over-used comments on here. Like you say, it is NOT schoolchildren posting on here! I feel embarrassed for any poster who says this. It's right up there with 'are you on glue?' 'U OK hun?' and the hideous 'we see you....' 🙄

Don’t forget “There is a war going on and this is what you’re worrying about?”

cuckyplunt · 05/04/2024 14:42

I put everything away in my house, for everyone. Makes life easy.

2024theplot · 05/04/2024 14:43

If my husband did something like this, I'd either return the prank by hiding his mayo, or if I thought he was being passive aggressive then I would be annoyed and might bin the mayo /have a word with him about it.
FWIW, restaurants keep mayo at room temperature. I keep it in the fridge personally, but I know a lot of other ex-restaurant workers who keep it in the cupboard.

Oh yeah! I forgot that one! It's like if someone is worried about something seemingly trivial (to others) they cannot possibly have any other worries in their life, and clearly don't give a shit about people dying in wars! 🙄

This place sometimes!

Oh - i'm picturing OP in same sex couple.

Anyway - put your own mayo away and then there's no problem. And/or just say ''if i leave the mayo out can you just leave it because if it goes in the cupboard i forget about it and it'll go off. Ta''.

AND while i'm here;
''switching'' from brown sauce to mayo ..... Confused on what food are you switching these things?! I can't think of much you'd switch from having brown sauce to mayo on.

Except maybe bacon sandwich? 🤔Please tell.

That was my main takeaway from this post.
How can mayonnaise replace brown sauce?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/04/2024 14:53

I wouldn't be impressed. Peanut butter is not very nice if it's been in the fridge.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 05/04/2024 14:53

' It just happens in our current routine that she has breakfast first and we don’t share, not perfect but is what it is. '

An interesting point to make in a post about peanut butter / cupboard / fridge / mayo / brown sauce

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/04/2024 14:54

What a bizarrely childish game of tit for tat

Oh I don’t know…

saveforthat · 05/04/2024 15:07

I think the weirdest thing about this post is that someone has come on here to ask random strangers how their wife will react to this "prank". If you don't know we certainly don't.

justanotherrandomperson · 05/04/2024 15:07

I don't see it as a big deal to put the PB in the fridge to make a point, if you do it once. It'll soon resoften at room temperature. But honestly, why are you not putting the mayonnaise back in the fridge immediately after using it? That should be the goal: Anyone using things from the fridge puts them back right away.

I’m not sure how to mention it again without seeming like I’m nagging.

Don't mention it again, it would be nagging. Put it away yourself.
