The be angry at neighbour complaint

leopardsponge · 03/04/2024 11:00

I have been contacted by the council because one of my neighbours has complained about my dog barking. I don't know which neighbour, but I have a strong feeling who.

My dog goes outside first thing (around 7am) to pee and then is out during the day at various times. The garden backs into a footpath so people do pass and yes he does bark but he's a dog, that's what dogs do.

At least complain to me?

What training are you doing to stop your dog barking, is he reacting to people walking along the footpath.

Hedgerow2 · 03/04/2024 11:03

Is your dog waking them up at 7am every morning - including weekends?

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 03/04/2024 11:03

Are you going to try and keep your dog quiet? You don't seem hugely open to this complaint and some people don't love confrontation so I can understand going to the council.

OhmygodDont · 03/04/2024 11:04

Are you trying to train your not to bark at everyone who walks by. Do you call him in when he is barking or are you just waiting for him to stop.

If you not heard calling him in I wouldn’t be shocked that they went straight to the council.

fieldsofbutterflies · 03/04/2024 11:04

Your dog shouldn't be out barking in the garden at 7am, no.

Either go out with him so he doesn't bark, or train him not to. I say that as the owner of a beagle. He's not allowed to bark in the garden and he knows it. It's not fair on the neighbours.

Unusualactualname · 03/04/2024 11:05

She didn't complain to you though. So what will you do about her complaint?

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 03/04/2024 11:05

There is a dog over the back of us that loves to bark, has the audacity to bark at people in their own fucking gardens. It's annoying so I get exactly where your neighbour is coming from. Why should they have to listen to it?

KeinLiebeslied54321 · 03/04/2024 11:06

What are you doing to stop the barking? It's unfair on neighbours if it's a regular thing, especially early in the morning. Yes, it's natural to hear some barking, but you should also be training your dog!

leopardsponge · 03/04/2024 11:06

He barks at everyone who goes past. I don't really know how to stop him as my other dog doesn't do it. Yes he goes out everyday of the week. Why can't they just tell me instead of making it formal? I don't know what else i can do other than telling him to stop it!

It will be multiple people complaining with diary evidence for the council to have responded by contacting you.

People that don't have dogs are much more sensitive to the noise of barking and yapping and I'd be pissed off if anything routinely woke me up at 7am with an irritating noise, especially on a Sunday.

WingSluts · 03/04/2024 11:06

Sounds irritating. I'm not surprised there's been a complaint. Train your dog better.

ItalianBike · 03/04/2024 11:06

You're more worried that nobody complained to you rather than the actual issue?

Get a behaviourist, train him not to react,

Jonnycakes · 03/04/2024 11:07

We used to have a dog that lived behind us, it was let out early in the morning then between 11pm and midnight. The bloody thing barked at NOTHING over and over. It’s fucking annoying. You say that’s what dogs do but it isn’t. Our neighbours have dogs both sides and we don’t hear a peep from them. They’ve probably got to the end of their tether to report you. Train your dog.

Babsexxx · 03/04/2024 11:07

Sorry but I have got the loudest barking dog opposite me it’s annoying af!!!

I’m lucky my dog doesn’t bark outside as from a puppy I didn’t tolerate it and she was called inside the minute it started!! From very young! What training are you putting in place?!

Speak to a professional dog trainer perhaps?
It sounds like you're 'noise blind' because he's your dog, but others will find it annoying.

Dog trainers and dog behaviourists exist. Have you spoken to either?

You need to train him OP. If you're not sure how to do this, there are some quite helpful online trainers, or pay for a couple of sessions with a behaviourist. It won't take much.

leopardsponge · 03/04/2024 11:08

Is that not extremely expensive?

Dogs bark is not the answer

You can let him out later?

I used to live near someone who let her dogs out everything morning around 6.30/7. Massive garden but they always came down to the bottom of it near my bedroom window. Drove me round the bend. I spoke to her politely several times but she never stopped them.

Possibly not cheap, but you cannot simply expect others to tolerate this.

You need a dog trainer. It’s not acceptable for your dog to be barking everytime someone comes by from 7am every day.
