The be angry at neighbour complaint

leopardsponge · 03/04/2024 11:00

I have been contacted by the council because one of my neighbours has complained about my dog barking. I don't know which neighbour, but I have a strong feeling who.

My dog goes outside first thing (around 7am) to pee and then is out during the day at various times. The garden backs into a footpath so people do pass and yes he does bark but he's a dog, that's what dogs do.

At least complain to me?

No, barking at passers by is not "just something that dogs do". Train the bugger.

LittleGreenDragons · 03/04/2024 11:10

leopardsponge · 03/04/2024 11:08

Is that not extremely expensive?

Compared to being taken to court by the council - no.

Or rehome the dog.

He barks at everyone who goes past. I don't really know how to stop him as my other dog doesn't do it. Yes he goes out everyday of the week. Why can't they just tell me instead of making it formal? I don't know what else i can do other than telling him to stop it!

But you said you don't know how to stop him so what good would it have done speaking to you?

iLovee · 03/04/2024 11:12

You need to train your dog properly. I would complain about you too.

Apathetic dog owners shouldn't be allowed to own dogs!

peakygold · 03/04/2024 11:13

We lived next door to a dog which barked constantly. They would go out and leave it for hours, and it just barked and barked. The damned thing never go tired. Then we bought one of those zappers that only dogs can hear, and our lives were back to normal. I hope I melted the little fucker's eardrums.

InTheShallowTheShalalalalalalalow · 03/04/2024 11:13

I would complain too, especially given the passive nature of your replies here.

You're more arsed there's been a complaint than you are about your dog disturbing everyone.

You need a good trainer.

Meantime you need to be taking your dog out for a walk in the morning for a wee, or at least go stand in the garden with them to show your neighbours you're trying to solve the issue.

stayathomegardener · 03/04/2024 11:13

You need to get up, put your dog on a lead and walk him out the front door for his morning wee.

Inconvenient for you but preferable for neighbourly harmony.

Re bark training, keep him on lead in the garden with treats, games and fuss, hint of a bark ignore and straight inside.

Babsexxx · 03/04/2024 11:14

follow southwest dog training he’s fantastic! With the power of dog trainers etc on social media it’s sooo easy to access tips and training for FREE a partially skilled chimpanzee could train a dog these days!

OhmygodDont · 03/04/2024 11:14

Thing is if the council deem it a stat noise issue. You will be fined, repeatedly and have the risk of having the dog removed.

If you own you now will need to declare your a problem neighbour when selling.

TitaniasAss · 03/04/2024 11:14

We had a couple of sessions with a trainer with our lab whose recall was shocking. Didn't cost a fortune and they show you how to work with your dog yourself. You just have to be prepared to put the work in. Is the dog left alone for long periods?

Well, I was woken at 7am this morning by someone's dog barking, so I know how your neighbour feels. I was not happy, especially as I'm not well.

If you can't do anything about it (you can) then it makes no difference if they complain directly or via the council. Other than that complaining directly would probably just lead to an argument.

Take him out on lead to wee. When he's done it take him back in. It's really not hard

Panicmode1 · 03/04/2024 11:15

I can't let my dog into my garden when the neighbours yappy dog is out there. It barks constantly along the mutual back fences, and drives me insane...my dog barks at it and even though I bring her inside and tell her off every time she reacts, I will not leave her out there barking at someone else's barking dog...it's antisocial.

If your dog is barking every time and you do nothing about it, then your neighbours have a right to complain. Don't be annoyed, do something constructive to stop it and make life less miserable for those around you.

TokyoSushi · 03/04/2024 11:15

On the off chance that this is for real...

What are you doing about the barking? If your dog is barking in the garden then you need to manage them closely. Our dog can be a barker, we've found it difficult to train out of him, so we manage him instead. One bark and he comes in, every single time. You can't just 'let him bark because that's what dogs do!'

betterangels · 03/04/2024 11:15

That would do my head in. Your dog needs some training.

vodkaredbullgirl · 03/04/2024 11:15

Mine bark but as soon as they do they are in.

Indeed - that's what we do and have done with every dog we've had.

Dogs left out in gardens for long periods of time get bored if there's nobody to interact with - barking often results.

It’s so bloody annoying I have had this trouble in the past with dogs yakking it invades ppl peace…if they had come to you would you have done something about it ….plus ppl can never be sure how someone will react and probably don’t want the drama at the end of the day your dog upsetting ppls peace so own it and sort it….I personally would have knocked your door first

Good because it’s awful for ppl to listen too

BMW6 · 03/04/2024 11:17

FFS do not inflict your all day outside barking dog on your neighbours! WTF is wrong with you?

Some cunt in my neighbourhood leaves their dog outside all day till around 2am. The poor thing barks incessantly driving us all round the bloody bend. I can't tell which neighbour it is otherwise you can be absolutely sure I'd be chapping their door at all hours to get through their thick heads that it is unacceptable.

The answer is - you do not leave this dog outside. If it barks inside when you're not home then you either don't leave it home alone or you remove the dog and get it rehomed.

You have been an irresponsible twat up to now.
Change it.

Go out with him and put him on a lead. Bring him inside every single time he barks. Or, train the "quiet" command. You'll need to start indoors first, then bring it into the garden.

They haven't come to speak to you as most people hate confrontation.

Your dog sounds like a nightmare. Surely you can see how annoying that is? Your defence is that he’s a dog and dogs bark! That’s really not good enough. He barks because you haven’t trained him.

I reported my neighbour to the council because of their barking dog. It is absolute hell living next to noisy dogs.
