Boiling some rice. Says 10 mins. It's been on a boil for 20 and still not done. FFS this is why I buy microwave rice. Just needed to rant. They lie on the packets

Never had that, rinse the rice, cold water (1.5x volume of rice) bring to boil and lid on for ten minutes. 20 minutes would be mush in my experience

Mrssheepskin · 30/03/2024 19:39

Don’t try brown rice then…

Kalevala · 30/03/2024 19:40

White rice? Should be done. My brown rice takes the time on the packet.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 30/03/2024 19:41

Brown rice I allow 24 hours.

Summerhillsquare · 30/03/2024 19:41

A million people will now pile on to say get a rice cooker...but seriously, get a rice cooker 😄

Ourshoddyhouse · 30/03/2024 19:41

Add oven chips to that OP

Brendabigbaps · 30/03/2024 19:42

Maybe turn your hob on

Simonjt · 30/03/2024 19:43

As an Asian who eats rice everyday, how on earth have you managed to boil rice for twenty minutes, how much water have you added?!

RJnomore1 · 30/03/2024 19:44

Microwave rice is like eating cotton wool though. Better waiting a wee bit.

Arrestedmanevolence · 30/03/2024 19:44

White rice is 12 mins on the dot if it's been rinsed beforehand.

Idontknowwhattodo78 · 30/03/2024 19:44

Well yes, they lie. Have you ever actually cooked a “serving suggestion” portion? It takes way longer to cook than they say and you need way more than they say! Micro rice is the way forward…..but one pack of micro rice does NOT feed two people!

pickledandpuzzled · 30/03/2024 19:45

I put basmati in a 1l jug with enough water to slightly more than cover.

Microwave 10mins
Let it rest.

Fluff and serve. Perfection every time.

BakedTattie · 30/03/2024 19:45

how much water have you added?!

Microwave rice is like eating dirt.

less than half full the jug, mind! It will be full once cooked!

MissusKay · 30/03/2024 19:47

Unless your rice is decades old it's massively overcooked at 20 minutes.

Deardear17 · 30/03/2024 19:47

I microwave it with a stock cube.
large pyerx bowl. Cover with extra water. Cling film and poke a hole in it. Microwave 20 minutes and leave it to sit a while.

MultiplaLight · 30/03/2024 19:48

One pack of micro rice should feed to people as a healthy sized carb portion.

Anyway, was your water boiling or not? Did you rinse?

43ontherocksporfavor · 30/03/2024 19:48

You’ve done somethings wrong op. I cook half a mug of rice to one mug of water. When water is evaporated it’s done.
Basmati take 8 minutes .

SkyBloo · 30/03/2024 19:48

Rice cooker. Sorry but its just a game changer.

BeardieWeirdie · 30/03/2024 19:49

I rinse a mug of rice several times in a pan until the water runs clear. Drain the water then add the same mug full of cold water. Add a lid and put on to boil, keep the lid on at all all times. Once boiling, turn off the heat (lid still on) and after about 10 minutes all the water will be absorbed and you’ll have lovely rice with minimal heating expense. Serves two.

Foxblue · 30/03/2024 19:50

I always buy the basmati 10 -12 minute Cook time one from sainsburys - No way could I cope with 20 minutes 😅
I also don't stir it or touch it at all once its in, just a little shake of the pan right at the start to even it out and it always turns out perfect, but I said this to someone once who was complaining about cooking rice and they looked at me like I was mad??

I cook rice every day. This is how I do it, but for 12 minutes. It’s not difficult. I don’t understand how you’ve been boiling it for 20 minutes and it’s not cooked.

StormySpanielz · 30/03/2024 19:50

You don’t need a rice cooker if you have a microwave. Well I actually have a specific microwave rice cooker device so I am half lying. 20 mins is ridiculous

This or a pressure cooker.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 30/03/2024 19:53

Microwave wave rice is OK, but it is definitely 2 bags between 3
