To absolutely HATE it when people park like this?! (pics included)

I live in a neighbourhood which is almost entirely on-street parking and spaces are at a premium, and I can’t describe how fucking annoying it is when a few cars are parked in such away that they occupy way more spaces than they actually need. In pics attached there is normally space for 5 cars to park neatly between the H-bar and the end of the double yellow lines. The bloody massive Barbarian has literally not moved for about a month and the Skoda has taken up two spaces by itself. And on the other side of the road the red car has left a shitload of space at either end as well.

Are these people so monumentally shit at parking that they absolutely must have that much room or they can’t possibly get in or out, or are they just thoughtless, selfish arseholes?

In my opinion they are thoughtless selfish arseholes. They know exactly how they are parked and they have done it so no one is near their precious car baby. They could not care less about making space for everyone to be able to park their car.

Whosmoralsarelastix · 22/03/2024 10:34

If I was being kind I'd say maybe they parked that way to accommodate an existing parked car.

But we all know they just don't think. It is awful. Wouldn't you be tempted to somehow move them. Maybe invest in a tow truck and take up hobby towing?

Soontobe60 · 22/03/2024 10:36

Were you bored when you decided to take photos of parked cars? There could be all sorts of reasons why these particular cars are parked like this. Maybe put some traffic cones along the street to demarcate parking spots?

Enthrallingstoryofstillnessandlight · 22/03/2024 10:36

I'd have to stick stickers all over them I think, those Barbarian things give me the red hot rage as it is, selfish bastard

You've clearly never had to park streets away have you or are you guilty of parking like a twat ....

It’s quicker than drawing a diagram…

Elebag · 22/03/2024 10:41

They may have had to park around other cars at the time. I occasionally look like I park like a twat in my street but I didn't have a choice as another car was blocking half a space. It's really annoying.

Elebag · 22/03/2024 10:42

However, if they are being twats it's very satisfying popping them on @ yplac on twitter. I always take photos of cars parked on pavements and double yellows and put them on there.

Leonarda89 · 22/03/2024 10:44

People do this on my street too and it's so frustrating! Usually people with big fancy cars who clearly don't want anyone near there car, the amount of times I have had to park 10 mins away and walk home with shopping and a baby in the rain is ridiculous! And it's definitely not because other cars were parked there as the space between them and junction/yellow lines is not big enough for a car!

LakieLady · 22/03/2024 10:44

YANBU, OP.

I live in a street of semis, with drives. Each house has enough frontage for a large car or van to park on the road without obstructing the driveway, and most houses have more than one vehicle.

Some tosser parked for 4 days slap in the middle of two adjoining houses, taking up 2 parking spaces. So thoughtless and inconsiderate.

AngeloMysterioso · 22/03/2024 10:45

There was nothing between the black Fiesta and the double yellows when I left to take the DC to nursery this morning so I thought I might be able to park there when I got back. 20 minutes later come back and there’s the Skoda, with a good half a car’s distance between the Skoda and the Fiesta and about a foot too short a space to park between the Skoda and the double yellows.

SpringOfContentment · 22/03/2024 10:45

I used to love it when people parked like that. I had a KA (tiny in those days), as I could get in the gap everyone else left 😀
But parking that far from the H-bar is twattish. In the middle it's harder to judge, as they might have lined up with other cars when they actually parked

User373433 · 22/03/2024 10:46

I find it more annoying the trend for cars getting bigger and bigger. People buy these new massive cars regardless of if they have a drive to park it or not and it's just a pain when there is a lot of on road parking having to wait for these giant chunky things who never give way. It is on street parking where I live and I deliberately bought the smallest car I could find.

Literally exactly me this morning. Had to park up the hill and round the corner and carry the heavy-ass baby in the car seat in the rain.

People park really badly all the time and the same people who show little consideration for other car drivers generally show even less for pedestrians and will happily park over dropped kerbs, entirely on pavements etc.

PuppetQueen · 22/03/2024 10:48

This is a bugbear of mine too, OP. So thoughtless!

"All them". Three.

Raccaccoonie · 22/03/2024 10:52

At the end of the line there is no excuse - park up to the "line" to allow max space for everyone. I see this all the time and it's really selfish.

If they're not on the end I give them the benefit of the doubt as you don't know what other cars were there when they parked, ie if they were accommodating other cars that weren't parking efficiently.

user1477391263 · 22/03/2024 10:55

I think the most disturbing aspect here is the sheer SIZE of that first car. The UK needs a tonnage tax on cars pronto.

Except in the case of the Skoda I do know, because it wasn’t there when I went out and it was there when I got back about 20 mins later

I once phoned the contact number on the back of a builder's van to ask them to pull forward a foot so I could park my car. I had two babies in the back, it was raining and there was zero other parking on my road and I couldn't face circling the neighbouring streets trying to find a spot.

They were very nice and moved their van forward to the end of the bay. I felt very victorious that day. Thankfully we now have permit parking so the situation isn't nearly as bad, but it still pisses me off when people don't move up to the end of the bays.

That’s not even the biggest one round here, there’s something akin to a monster truck that often parks bang in the middle of what would usually be space for 3 cars between the corner and the H-bar down the road. Because it’s so massive, no other cars can fit in either side of it.

I'm glad it's not just me, this drives me mad and DH always wonders why I get so annoyed by it! I saw a lady park about 3 feet away from the end of the bay the other day and just had to say something (my usual phrase is 'have you had an argument with the end of the bay and having to keep away from it') and she just ignored me and walked on. I also don't find it's size related, most of the time for me with people in small cars.

It's totally selfish, but I think some people are also completely in their own worlds. I lady on our street regularly moans about how bad parking is and she has to park a road away, but she's the worst for taking up two spaces when she does park on our road!

Mumsnut · 22/03/2024 11:03

People do this in my village. They are occupying two spaces so that when hubby get home from work, they can shuffle up and he can slot right in. It boils my piss.
