To absolutely HATE it when people park like this?! (pics included)

I live in a neighbourhood which is almost entirely on-street parking and spaces are at a premium, and I can’t describe how fucking annoying it is when a few cars are parked in such away that they occupy way more spaces than they actually need. In pics attached there is normally space for 5 cars to park neatly between the H-bar and the end of the double yellow lines. The bloody massive Barbarian has literally not moved for about a month and the Skoda has taken up two spaces by itself. And on the other side of the road the red car has left a shitload of space at either end as well.

Are these people so monumentally shit at parking that they absolutely must have that much room or they can’t possibly get in or out, or are they just thoughtless, selfish arseholes?

YANBU if you know they could have parked differently.

But I often park "properly" and then the car in front/behind me will move, and someone else will come and leave a stupid gap.

mynewusername2023 · 22/03/2024 13:36

My neighbour does this. He likes to park outside his house, which I don't have issue with, but if he moved 2 ft back, then you could fit another car in.

GardenRoom · 22/03/2024 13:40

People do this in my street because they think they have to be parked within the two points at either side of their house, because they actually own that bit of the road. So they won’t move up to the next car of it would mean they are partially outside their ‘boundary’. Drives me crackers.

AngeloMysterioso · 22/03/2024 13:43

How do you know there wasn't a car there when they parked in the first place?

I’ve answered that question several times now

That could be pictures of my street. So so annoying! Especially when those parking are doing so to walk into the town to avoid parking fees.

But then you also get the twats that park within an inch of your bumper. Which is fine until somebody does the same at the front 😤

blackberryhill · 22/03/2024 14:23

Ah, nubbing, as my DH calls it. Yes, drives me batty - with the proviso that in some cases you can't know what was there beforehand, but particularly up against the end of the double yellows there really shouldn't be any excuse.

We don't park up to a H bar. I have an estate car with a wheelchair in the boot. If some stupid fucker parks up to my bumper (happens many times) we don't have space to get my chair out. Even with a car window sticker saying "please leave room for wheelchair etc" people just don't.

We park just far away enough from an H bar that we could pull forward enough to open the boot and get chair out if someone parks too close to my boot,

Genuinely not being snippy, but curious as to why you don’t park your boot up to the H Bar and then you would always have space for the boot to open to accommodate the wheelchair?

I wondered that too.

Blueey · 22/03/2024 14:34

Yanbu. This really annoys me too.

I think a little bit it's people don't know the size of their car and don't care enough to hop back in and move once they get out and see the space they've left.

CrazyforShoes · 22/03/2024 14:42

I can't believe so many people have voted YABU!

There's lots of parking like in this in my village and people often leave half a car's length at the end. It amazes me that people who are that ignorant are allowed to drive.

I parked in the village this morning for a doctors appointment and there was space for about 1.5 cars at the end. I parked right up to the end near the double yellows and left the half space between me and the next car, so that when they moved there would be space for others. To me it's just common sense.

MassiveOvaryaction · 22/03/2024 14:42

@AngeloMysterioso surely you'd be better sending your photos to your local council (although they all seem to be legally parked from what I can see) or on a local FB group/Nextdoor to name & shame or get them to move?

Ginnnny · 22/03/2024 15:02

Absolutely with you on this! Where I live was only on street parking and we had so many neighbours like this. I had to park two streets away and walk for years, then about six houses in a row had driveways done and it was a game changer!

BlowDryRat · 22/03/2024 15:13

YANBU. My road only has on-street parking and it's amazing how many of the same residents who moan about the lack of parking also park selfishly. Not as bad as the people who are too cheap to pay for airport parking and abandon their badly-parked cars for weeks.

ScaredToGoogleCuckFace · 22/03/2024 15:30

@GretaGip and @toomanyy I can only get out of our car on one side due to its layout. Obviously that's only on our road, if it's another we will park up to H. Also reverse into car park spaces so we have enough boot room for chair too.

I actually think everyone should reverse into car park spaces/driveways as it's so much safer to drive out.

unicornpower · 22/03/2024 15:32

Yep drives me mad! The lady next door to us has carers and they park so awfully it’s frustrating! Leave a too small gap either side so no one else can park, really frustrating when I have shopping and/or baby!

can you leave a note? 😂 people on our street have started doing this as it’s ALL the time with different cars. If I catch someone doing it I’ll ask them to park properly please!

Ahha, I knew there'd be a reason, I just couldn't fathom it.

happens all te time down my dsis road i say out loud wy cant people fucking park properly

selfish

LoompaOompa · 22/03/2024 17:12

Your photos are excellent @AngeloMysterioso

As for the parking... anyone who drives a Barbarian is a twat IMHO, so I'm not at all surprised by their selfish and entitled parking.

Mynewnameis · 22/03/2024 17:14

My neighbour parks outside her house even if it's the middle of 3 spaces grrrr

Whatthefuck3456 · 22/03/2024 17:15

They just got there first 🙃

ScaredToGoogleCuckFace · 22/03/2024 17:15

@GretaGip I should have said it was just my road, I can see how it was confusing!

Shall I also vent on this thread about people who park right up against the side of your cars in car parks so you can't open your door properly? Or is everyone's blood pressure high enough already Grin

I have a blue badge but if those car park spaces are full (with non blue badge holders who are "sorry, I was just nipping in for a minute!" Hmm) we often hold the traffic up while DH helps me out of the car before he reverses into the space - as once in the space I can't open my car door fully enough to get out!

It's frustrating that car park spaces don't reflect the giant size of cars now (again I am exempting myself here Smile as I need to fit a chair in)

I often worry about getting my giant car's tyres let down by Tyre extinguishers or the person up thread who suggested it for people they deem to have parked like a dick Hmm I have a "I need space for my wheelchair" sticker on my window but people just seem to ignore it when they park right up to my boot Angry

NewName24 · 22/03/2024 17:32

It's clearly frustrating when you are looking for a space and people are parked badly, but, overwhelmingly, you can't know what was in front and behind people when they parked / who parked first etc.

We get it quite a bit where I live, with people leaving their car in the middle of the space between two drives that you can fit 2 cars into if people parked properly, but, quite seriously, if you use energy getting distressed about it, you are just worrying yourself to an early grave.

crackofdoom · 22/03/2024 17:42

In a parking bay long enough for 3 or 4 cars in town today, there was a Nissan Micra parked about 6ft from the end of the bay, meaning that I had to do some tight manoeuvring to reverse into the space between it and the van at the other end of the bay- complicated by the fact that our local town has foot deep water channels along the edge of the road waiting to trap the unwary.

When I'd finished edging my way in, a little old lady popped out of the Nissan Micra, gave me a beatific smile and a thumbs up and wandered off 🤦‍♀️

Spoonthief · 22/03/2024 17:49

A bit like the people on trains and buses who put a bag on the seat next to them so no one will sit there !

TequilaNights · 22/03/2024 19:36

Frustrating, but you don't know if a car was parked either side of them when they parked.
