To absolutely HATE it when people park like this?! (pics included)

I live in a neighbourhood which is almost entirely on-street parking and spaces are at a premium, and I can’t describe how fucking annoying it is when a few cars are parked in such away that they occupy way more spaces than they actually need. In pics attached there is normally space for 5 cars to park neatly between the H-bar and the end of the double yellow lines. The bloody massive Barbarian has literally not moved for about a month and the Skoda has taken up two spaces by itself. And on the other side of the road the red car has left a shitload of space at either end as well.

Are these people so monumentally shit at parking that they absolutely must have that much room or they can’t possibly get in or out, or are they just thoughtless, selfish arseholes?

This happens a lot where I am but you don't actually know what was in front of / behind these cars when they parked.

In my opinion they are thoughtless selfish arseholes. They know exactly how they are parked and they have done it so no one is near their precious car baby. They could not care less about making space for everyone to be able to park their car.

Many years ago, all cars had bumpers. Rubber things, that were designed to take a small knock without damageing the car. Now we have about 8 times as many cars, we drive faster, cars are delicate things that must not be bumped - and we no longer have bumpers. Local facebook page is full of posts asking people to own up having bumped a car, there's always at least one arsehole in a car park occupying two spaces so he doesn't get bumped. It just seems so silly. Yes, nobody should ever bump another car, but if it happens, or if you scrape a barrier on a tight curve in a multistorey car park, it shouldn't be a major problem.

JudgeJ · 22/03/2024 12:05

This thread reminds me of a, now but not then, funny incident a few years back. I have a big drive, it can take 6 medium sized cars, and there is a chapel down the road. One day there was a funeral going on and there were cars parked all the way up and down from the Chapel and I saw a Micra drive up and down with two ladies clearly dressed for the funeral looking frazzled. I waved to them and told them we were going out, they could park in the drive as long as we could get back when we returned. They were so grateful but when we returned the driver had managed to park almost sideways at the front of the drive, luckily our neighbour was going out so we managed to park there.

Again- yes I do know, because I saw. Unless, in the space of 20 minutes, the black fiesta left, a massive car took its place, a smart car or motorbike parked by the double yellows and the Skoda went between. Then they all left again, the fiesta went back to exactly where it was before and the Skoda was left with a shitload of room at either end.

We have on street paid for permit parking and people do this ALL THE TIME. It is very frustrating to have to park 3 streets away when I am paying for the privilege because people park 2 feet away from the end of the bay.

MumbleCushion · 22/03/2024 12:13

My husband calls it ‘greedy parking’. He gets really wound up by this. I think it is a symptom of general selfishness in society and an ‘every man for himself’ attitude. It is irritating, but the only thing that you can manage is your own reaction, and just hope that parking karma will get them one day.

LordSnot · 22/03/2024 12:18

The last place I lived was like that. I started leaving notes and those people didn't do it again, so I think it's thoughtlessness rather than deliberate twattiness.

Mumofoneandone · 22/03/2024 12:37

Can you report a vehicle as abandoned if it hasn't moved in weeks?!

ScaredToGoogleCuckFace · 22/03/2024 12:41

DDivaStar · 22/03/2024 11:54

Of course it makes no sense not to park upto a H- bar or lines. Unless there was a motor bike or something there at the time of parking.

My neighbours have a H bar ober their single driveway and park one car 1/ 2 on the Hbar and half in space and then another car behind. Then they leave the car in a space whenever possible to reserve the h-bar and half size space as they know no-one else will park in it.

We don't park up to a H bar. I have an estate car with a wheelchair in the boot. If some stupid fucker parks up to my bumper (happens many times) we don't have space to get my chair out. Even with a car window sticker saying "please leave room for wheelchair etc" people just don't.

We park just far away enough from an H bar that we could pull forward enough to open the boot and get chair out if someone parks too close to my boot,

SabreIsMyFave · 22/03/2024 12:44

I didn't vote, because it all depends how cars were parked before IYSWIM. I have parked half arsed across 2 spaces before, because of a massive car (or van) taking up more than one space, and if that car/van goes before me, it looks like I am the asshole. Too many variables here. But yeah obviously if the spaces are all empty and they park like that, then of course they're arseholes.

ScaredToGoogleCuckFace · 22/03/2024 12:45

In OP's first picture, the Audi would be too close for me to open boot and get chair out. I have an estate not a monster truck though and would leave a small a gap (up to the H bar) as possible to pull forward if needed.

YouDidntEvenAskIfSheWasThereMoriarty · 22/03/2024 12:45

Oh it's a massive peeve of mine. I always make sure I'm up to the line. I'll even get out of my car to check if I need to.

I've got a parking space now, but when I lived in a row of Victorian terraces in a city centre, something like this would happen every week. Yes, occasionally someone else was halfway over the double yellows, but mostly it's just laziness and selfishness.

idontlikealdi · 22/03/2024 12:47

I can't get so annoyed about this one because of the fucking ridiculous size of the truck, if it was parked right to the line nothing would fit in between the car anyway.

I truly feel your pain though as we live on a terraced street and the parking is a nightmare.

Fintoo · 22/03/2024 12:56

This happens on my street too. People are idiots and/or selfish, I get really annoyed about it too.

Pudmyboy · 22/03/2024 12:56

If I was being kind I'd say maybe they parked that way to accommodate an existing parked car.
This: it happens on my street which has people with a large SUV type vehicle parking up, others park a correct distance from them, then the first car moves and a little car eg Toyota aygo takes the big car space so it looks like everyone is parking far apart deliberately, but it's just the traffic flow

hookiewookie29 · 22/03/2024 13:02

This gives me the rage! Parking is horrendous in my street. The guy opposite is in the end house. He has 5 vehicles including 2 work vans and a small motor home. He also has a garage at the end of the garden with parking in front of it ad well as a huge driveway at the front. This week all of his vehicles have been parked on the street, leaving all of his parking areas empty. Yes they're all taxed blah blah blah but it's just bloody inconsiderate!

All of the above
10/10 for the photos

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 22/03/2024 11:33

I would be letting tyres down I am afraid!

What, so they can't actually move? How would that help?

LaWench · 22/03/2024 13:15

I often wonder if they parked like that due other cars parked badly that have left and now they look like shit parkers.

If they are newly parked then YANBU.

QuestionForHelp · 22/03/2024 13:22

How do you know there wasn't a car there when they parked in the first place?

We have double yellow lines on our road leading up to a stretch for parking and the amount of people who park on or overlapping the double yellow lines is astounding. If I were a traffic warden on commission I'd make a packet.

Unless you see the people actually park, you can't be sure that they aren't in the place they are in because of a car or delivery van there before that has since moved.

toweldrama · 22/03/2024 13:23

My next door neighbour parks like that on our terraced street, leaves about 5ft each side of his car so no one else gets a look in. The worst part is he has his own off road parking space at the end of his back yard but doesn't ever use it. He also parks in parent and child spaces at the supermarket and does other inconsiderate thing. I've started parking right up to his bumper.

Magicpaintbrush · 22/03/2024 13:25

I completely agree OP. It's thoughtless, there's no need for it.

LindorDoubleChoc · 22/03/2024 13:26

Yanbu!! There's easily 3 parking spaces outside my neighbour's house and my house (then dropped kerbs at either end) and invariably there will be only be room for 2 cars because of fuck-witted parking by the planks who don't know what they're doing.

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 22/03/2024 13:28

YANBU. We live in a close with one allocated parking space for each house. There are extra spaces in long bays along the curb opposite. Our neighbours have 2 additional cars, we have 1 - all three should easily fit in the bay opposite our houses, but they park theirs so as no one else can park there, and on the rare occasions we do manage to park there, they will move their car again as soon as we go out. It's infuriating!

Malarandras · 22/03/2024 13:31

Gotta love the why did you take the time to do this comments from people taking the time to post in an anonymous forum to complain about other people’s posts! You are totally right OP.
