To be ridiculously proud of DS

So, DS1 is 24 and has ADHD, Tourette’s syndrome, long Covid and a 3rd rare neurological condition( I’m not saying what it is as potentially outing, it’s so rare)
He’s suffered with depression and crippling health anxiety (convinced he was dying of cancer). It got so bad at one point he thought he’d be better off dead than living with the misery.
He’s pulled himself out of a very dark pit and got a job!
20 hours a week for now.
Probably won’t seem like a big deal to some but I’m so proud I might burst!

Brilliant news, that's so good for him. No doubt, you have been a big influencing factor in his turnaround.

I love when people post positive things like this.

It's great to read something positive on here. He is a brave and strong young man. Tell him to remember how he feels right now, to savour it and should things ever get dark again to pull that memory out, polish it and go back to exactly how it felt in that moment when he was told he was hired

It’s been a long tough road and I’ve shed many, many years but at least now they’re tears of joy.

That is a fantastical accomplishment even if all he had were depression!

However, depression usually only goes into remission, be sure to let him know that part of recovery is spotting signs of relapse and getting help sooner rather than later. I wouldn’t want him to feel a disappointment to you if the depression comes back. Your famous PM Churchill suffered from depression badly, he called it his “black dog” in his memoirs when it would start to tussle with him.

As he has ADHD, he may also experience burnout. So 20hrs a week might be his personal limit.

Igmum · 19/03/2024 20:29

Well done your DS and YADNU in having a nice proud mum moment

He’s felt a failure most of his life. Left school with no GCSE’s then got excluded from college.
I’ve said to him so many times I wish he could see himself how I see him. He’s a fab young man x

Thanks for your post. He could never disappoint me 😀. But I will be sure to keep an eye on him.
I too think the 20 hours is enough for now (for as long as it takes)
