To be ridiculously proud of DS

So, DS1 is 24 and has ADHD, Tourette’s syndrome, long Covid and a 3rd rare neurological condition( I’m not saying what it is as potentially outing, it’s so rare)
He’s suffered with depression and crippling health anxiety (convinced he was dying of cancer). It got so bad at one point he thought he’d be better off dead than living with the misery.
He’s pulled himself out of a very dark pit and got a job!
20 hours a week for now.
Probably won’t seem like a big deal to some but I’m so proud I might burst!

That’s brilliant - very well done to him! Thank you for sharing such a positive story.

I did wonder if it was a silly thing to share? But I just wanted to shout it from the rooftops. He’s been through so much.

Well done to your strong, brave son!

Eleanorwishes · 19/03/2024 20:36

Yay!!! Well done to your boy. And to you too for raising such a resilient human 🌷

FizzyStream · 19/03/2024 20:36

Ah that's brilliant. Well done OP's DS 👏🏻

owlsinthedaylight · 19/03/2024 20:36

He sounds amazing! Massive well done to him.

Thank you so much for sharing. I love these little rays of sunshine.

Asparename · 19/03/2024 20:38

Aw well done. Are you able to share how he managed to get his job? Or how he’s turned it around? I have a dc in similar situation, and struggling to see a way forward.

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 19/03/2024 20:43

@Mumof2NDers It's not a silly thing to share.

It threads like these that give people hope that things will work out in time. That persistence pays off & that there can be a payoff for people in an often very draining, difficult and hugely underappreciated role.

Not just with parental or SN challenges but just in general. Things often come good & everyone needs a reminder sometimes with a post like yours.

On the job front it’s been hard. He can’t do anything very manual due to his long Covid. He’s applied for lots of jobs but due to very large gaps in his CV he was overlooked a lot. The lady who interviewed him liked him and thought he deserved a chance. It’s been a very long road turning it round. Just lots of love and patience and not putting any pressure on him. I have to be honest and say I don’t know what changed for him but I think he’s very slowly started to believe in himself x

Utterly brilliant @Mumof2NDers

What a phenomenal achievement. You are rightly proud ❤️

Sasqwatch · 19/03/2024 20:46

Wonderful achievement

Daleksatemyshed · 19/03/2024 20:46

That's an awful lot for one person to cope with, you must have been desperate for something good to happen for him. I hope this is the start of your boy's life getting better

LordSnot · 19/03/2024 20:47

Well done him! And you for supporting him through everything.

Tinytigertail · 19/03/2024 20:48

Best thing I've read on here this evening, thanks for posting and congrats to your son.

HoorayForRain · 19/03/2024 20:49

Excellent! Well done your son. Best of luck for the first day and beyond.

itsgettingweird · 19/03/2024 20:51

That's fantastic 🤩

From another mum of a ds who is ND with a very rare another condition who was also at the point of think death was best option previously.

As well as being so proud of him also give yourself all the credit you deserve. Only those who have been there know how much of you you also have to give to get them there Flowers

MrsKarlUrban · 19/03/2024 20:52

Aww that's brilliant! Well done to DS xxx

FrenchandSaunders · 19/03/2024 20:54

I’m very pleased you did share his fantastic achievement. As a fellow-parent of a ND child, I am greatly encouraged to hear that he has succeeded in finding employment, after dealing with some challenging circumstances and diagnoses. 💐 to you both x

That is just the best, most uplifting post i have read on here today. I hope your son goes from strength to strength. It’s so hard to imagine days like this when you are deep in the trenches. I’m so delighted for you.

HRTQueen · 19/03/2024 20:58

That is absolutely fantastic well done to your ds 😊

20hrs is a good work/home balance and what suits many people

Dexterrolledoffthesofa · 19/03/2024 20:58

Not a big deal?! My lovely, that is the biggest deal!
Wonderful news

teoma · 19/03/2024 21:05

Work brings lots of positives. Feeling of self respect and value, independence, freedom, new social circle, maybe even love. I hope many more beautiful things are in the pipeline for your boy.

Eastcoaster · 19/03/2024 21:07

Aww that’s amazing. Well done him. You should be very proud and so should he. Not silly to share at all. You’re proud of him and there could be someone reading this who is having a hard time and needs to hear this.

Wishing him the best of luck in his new job!

User884721 · 19/03/2024 21:10

Aww that's fab. My ds has just found a part time job after being rejected so many times. It was tough. I hope their first few weeks go well and their confidence grows and grows.

And they take their mums out for coffee and a cake with their wages.
