To be ridiculously proud of DS

So, DS1 is 24 and has ADHD, Tourette’s syndrome, long Covid and a 3rd rare neurological condition( I’m not saying what it is as potentially outing, it’s so rare)
He’s suffered with depression and crippling health anxiety (convinced he was dying of cancer). It got so bad at one point he thought he’d be better off dead than living with the misery.
He’s pulled himself out of a very dark pit and got a job!
20 hours a week for now.
Probably won’t seem like a big deal to some but I’m so proud I might burst!

Excellent 👍

SuncreamAndIceCream · 19/03/2024 21:11

Oh well done to your DS. It takes a real strength of character to keep going and trying when things have been so hard. I hope this is the making of him. 20 hours a week with all his challenges is plenty. I really hope he enjoys his job.

mrsjg · 19/03/2024 21:11

That's fantastic. Congratulations to your son and to you too 😁

AmaryllisChorus · 19/03/2024 21:14

You have every right to be proud. I'm genuinely delighted for him and for you.

My own son has ADHD, ASD and a physical disability. I have spent so many sleepless nights worried about him finding is way in the world. Like your DS he too has had a lot of very low moments. So when they find a job and start to build their life up again after a low point, you feel almost high with happiness.

You must be a lovely mum to be so supportive and to have helped him get through the rough times to where he is right now. Hope you have a little celebration.

Aww that's fab. My ds has just found a part time job after being rejected so many times. It was tough. I hope their first few weeks go well and their confidence grows and grows.

And they take their mums out for coffee and a cake with their wages.

Wishing all the luck in the world to your DS… coffee and cake…. Now that sounds good 😀

“High with happiness”
This is exactly how I feel 😀

Well done to him. Hope the job goes well!

honeyandfizz · 19/03/2024 21:18

Awwww well done to your DS!

takemeawayagain · 19/03/2024 21:18

That is the most wonderful of news. Hopefully his employer will be really supportive, I bet he'll be brilliant. I have one with ASD so I know what a worry it is and to hope that someone will see something in them and give them the chance they deserve.

And rightfully so!
Congratulations on his job.

Tessisme · 19/03/2024 21:36

This is so lovely to hear and honestly gives me hope for both my DC - eldest with ASD and depression, struggling hugely with school and life in general, youngest with Crohn's and at a virtual standstill with OCD, new compulsions popping up almost every day.

I am really pleased for your son and wish him well in his new job. He sounds absolutely wonderful😊

PinkiOcelot · 19/03/2024 21:40

Fantastic OP. I’m not surprised you’re so proud x

dreadisabaddog · 19/03/2024 21:42

Achievements are all relative. I bet he worked as hard for that as anyone works to get where they want to be. Well done mama!

Dita73 · 19/03/2024 21:43

That’s wonderful! Massive congratulations to your son and you too. You’re obviously a very supportive parent and that will have helped him a tremendous amount. Many best wishes for the future xx

Thank you so much. I’m really glad I posted now if it gives hope for the future for people going through the same.

As a fellow ND mum, I know what a big deal this is and wish you and your son the very best! You must be so proud of him - well done for making him into the resilient young man he clearly is!

CheapThrillsMeanNothing · 19/03/2024 21:46

Well done to your DS. I hope it boosts his confidence and that its just the beginning for him.

DisforDarkChocolate · 19/03/2024 21:47

Go DS!!

What a star he is. I shall go to bed smiling tonight.

ItsallIeverwanted · 19/03/2024 21:49

I am so pleased for you, and for him. I think that part-time is the way forward for many people with depression/other issues, one of my daughters has a part-time job and it has been transformative, because she's able to cope with it, unlike full-time work or college, but doing nothing was so destructive. Apparently more young people than ever are not economically active- I keep thinking isn't it a shame they can't share part-time jobs rather than having people work long hours or no hours!

This is great news!

MerylSqueak · 19/03/2024 21:50

Well done him and we'll done you!

boobot1 · 19/03/2024 21:52

Well done to him. This is what the support of a loving mother will do. Congrats🙂
