Did you go to school with someone famous?

I mean someone who was famous back then, not someone who became famous more recently. Child stars, athletes, children of celebrities...

How did they act? Do you think the fame affected them?

Same here.

Snap. And has just been jailed again.

facepalmdaily · 20/03/2024 12:52

@Hoolahoophop no way! I adored him. I can only imagine what the girls at my high school thought of him! He was ten years older than me so left before I started. 😊

Hoolahoophop · 20/03/2024 12:56

@facepalmdaily I have only met him once at a family party. I was not all that impressed. Thought a lot of himself, very much above the rest of us, came in with an air of expecting to be the center of attention. Didn't stay long as he and the rest of his party had another engagement! He's the generation above me so I don't really know his music though my Dad had a record. I did watch the tomorrow people as a kid.

My Dh went to the same school that David bowie went to, he said that in-the school photos hung in the corridor bowie was always posed differently to all the other boys, like in profile or something. Star quality even then.

TheShellBeach · 20/03/2024 13:03

Gillian Anderson in primary school.
Zainab Badawi in secondary.

A romantic novelist turned Tory MP turned keyboard warrior. Only interested in people who were useful to her.

Louise Mensch for sure

One of the Milky Bar Kids went to my school, but he was a couple of years below me and I have no idea which one he was.

He's the one in the cowboy outfit eating chocolate

mrlistersgelfbride · 20/03/2024 13:11

Not many people are famous when they at school?
I went to the same high school as Richard Ashcroft, and Leon Osman (Everton and England footballer) was a couple of years above me when I was there.

I went to college with some girls from Hollyoaks at the time (early 00s), I did dance A level and they were massively arrogant and up themselves.

TerrysCIockworkOrange · 20/03/2024 13:15

A girl who was in Grange Hill at the time. She was incredibly normal - to the extent I don’t think anyone even knew she was interested in acting until we saw her on TV! To my knowledge it didn’t change/improve her ‘status’ at all. She just carried on being normal!

Septagenariandaisy · 20/03/2024 13:24

The late Linda Lewis was in my class at secondary school.
Didnt even know she could sing back then.

I was in the same class at school with Alice eve. She is now relatively famous in her own right but at the time her parents were the famous ones. Her dad is Trevor eve and mum Sharon Maughan (Holby and the maxwell house adverts). They came to judge our drama competitions

Was also at school with Chris akabusi's daughter. He came to watch our drama production. You could certainly hear him in the audience.

Edited

oh my god I was going to mention Kris Akabusi's daughter - we went to the same school!

Createausername1970 · 20/03/2024 09:27

There were a few milky bar kids. But having googled them, I don't recognise any of the names, so I am beginning to think it's not true.

Maybe he just had an audition and never actually got the gig, but the story persisted.

I work with one of the old Milky Bar kids (in his late thirties/early forties now) - think there were a few!

SuperGinger · 20/03/2024 13:42

A girl in my class had a small part in film with two Hollywood megastars she was away from school for six weeks to shoot it. She is now a drama teacher. Other girl at school, above average at drama but not amazing is a proper A-list celeb now.

Bilingualspingual · 20/03/2024 13:42

If we have a milky bar kid thread, can we also have an actress fake age thread?? What I don’t get is how Amanda Holden could possible be OLDER than her real age?! I know she’s had fillers but still…

Attended boarding school.
1 year above me, same boarding house, daughter of a very, very well known billionaire.
She didn’t have to share a dorm and had her own room all the way through school (usually reserved only for 6th form girls)
Bodyguard (female) in the adjoining room to her in the house. None of the other girls were ever introduced to the bodyguard which I always thought was very odd.
i didn’t really click or become friends with this billionaire’s daughter - her main interests were smoking behind tuck shop, whereas I was a bit of a swot. Notably she carried an expensive IT bag (can’t remember what), and wore makeup with uniform, but didn’t particularly find her snobby etc. I did like her, found her to be similar to many of the girls at school. But the baseline was off as international boarding school.
She did once arrive at school in a helicopter though.

If you were to have met her as a 15year old you would not have foreseen the extremely high glamour person she is an adult.

The topshop heiress?

Sartina · 20/03/2024 13:50

Not Hollywood famous but in my year was the first BB winner Craig Phillips and the actor/Director Nick Moss. Rumour was that Nick provided the voiceover from that tv ad with the scouse kid saying "chicken"

Hi to any former class of '88 friends!

IndignantIguana · 20/03/2024 13:52

About 40 years ago I went to school with a boy who was on a popular TV show at the time. I can't remember the show (it was an adult thing so I didn't watch it) or his name but he was nice enough. For a boy 😂

Twinkletows · 20/03/2024 13:57

Does it count that 2 classmates were contestants on "fun house" . They were famous in our school anyway.

My son does go to school with someone who is on a TV soap. They're a lovely kid and down to earth.

Was Roger black an ex student as if so then yes we went to the same school

iceteaandmints · 20/03/2024 14:27

I am the famous one.
Moohahaha.

facepalmdaily · 20/03/2024 15:48

@Hoolahoophop what a shame, but I can imagine that. I never really knew their music as I was too young but I did remember him in Tomorrow People. It’s a shame when your idol turns out to be so egotistical.

iffyi · 20/03/2024 15:55

BobbyBiscuits · 19/03/2024 15:03

No. I even went to drama school and noone was famous, lol. One girl in my secondary school year was in a Tampax advert. Geri halliwell pretended to go to my school though. God knows why, lol.

Geri Halliwell’s dd went to my dd’s school! lovely, polite girl- sadly can’t say the same for her mum though!

HorsesDuvets · 20/03/2024 15:57

Also Mike Gascoyne British Formula One design engineer was also in my year.

Presumably he wasn't doing that job while at school, though???

The thread was supposed to be about people who were famous at the time you were at school, not decades later, but 90% of posts are about people who became famous as adults!

I went to school with the daughter of a well known, now deceased club owner from the 70s, 80s and 90s. He came to an open day and we thought he was her boyfriend the way they carried on. Very creeped out when we found out he was her dad.
I didn’t go to school with them, but was in Pony Club with the Charlton girls. As a pp said, Bobby was lovely. He lent me his umbrella once and stood in the rain himself.
My DH’s English teacher was Michael Morpurgo

Would that be at St Faiths your DH was at?
