Considering the amount of people on here struggling with the COL, I find this offensive....

A completely un-ideal, bordering on exploitive due to the APR, advert - yes. But ‘offensive’? Has the word lost all meaning?

DevaleraSpawnOfSatan · 27/02/2024 15:52

An advert for a loan with APR like that.

It isn’t offensive but it is irresponsible.

DevaleraSpawnOfSatan · 27/02/2024 15:53

Offense works for me.

See that little blue icon in the top right...? That means it's an ad from Google. It's not MN.

MonsteraMama · 27/02/2024 15:55

It's a Google ad, and those are usually personalised based on your browsing and search history. Fuck all to do with Mumsnet.

AnotherDayAnotherDoller · 27/02/2024 15:57

OP I am with you, I find it disappointing and a bit fustrating when I see these kind of ads.
Aimed at the already struggling, with the temptation of a quick and easy solution to poverty with long term consequences!

ComtesseDeSpair · 27/02/2024 15:58

Aren’t the adverts you see tailored for you by Google or whatever rather than MN?

And sure, it would be great if everyone who needed it could access low cost borrowing with good terms - but that’s not how private markets work, and ultimately there are plenty of people who would rather the option of a loan with high APR than not be able to access any borrowing at all if they desperately needed it.

tennesseewhiskey1 · 27/02/2024 15:58

It’s your browsing history OP not Mumsnet. Also. Grip <here>

Notherefortheclout · 27/02/2024 15:59

I agree with you, it is disgusting.
Someone who uses this app may be financially struggling and coming across that advertisement could tempt them to get a loan to help themself out. But really they're making things a whole lot worse for themselves.
People know loan companies exist they don't need them shoved in their faces at every opportunity.

Maybe OP is paying so much for the cleaner/gardener/oven cleaner she needs a loan....

I'm not getting this ad @DevaleraSpawnOfSatan Maybe, as has been suggested, it's related to your browsing history. I haven't looked for loans in 5 years or more, so never get any.

Have you been looking for loans perchance? 🙂

Nevertheless, an ad for loans with huge interest rates like this isn't great.😟

Could be google doing it though, as someone else suggested.

It's perfectly possible to object to financially exploitative sharkish loan companies while having no need to consider them for oneself. It sounds like OP's mistake was in misunderstanding how she came to see this particular advert.

I love threads like this where someone gets caught out. Maybe there needs to be a Hall of Shame alongside Classics! 😂
