Considering the amount of people on here struggling with the COL, I find this offensive....

Advert just a few moments ago...

Would MN towers care to comment.

I don't see how the OP has been "caught out" by being shown as comfortably off financially.

Anyone is allowed to be grossed out by seeing an APR like that; in fact I think they should be. I know I am and I'm not short on cash.

iwiporangi · 27/02/2024 16:39

Plenty of loan comanies charge 200-300% apr
Do you think there is a dedicated person at MN trying to match adverts to threads? So in style and beauty, if someone asks about a cc cream, Denise at MNHQ finds an ad for slap and posts it into the middle of the thread?
I think you need to get some understanding of how algorithms work...

Cockapoopoopoo · 27/02/2024 16:40

What has OP being well off got to do with anything? That interest rate is still outrageous

iwiporangi · 27/02/2024 16:41

@DevaleraSpawnOfSatan offense only if American. It's offence in English

MelonSmoothie · 27/02/2024 16:42

That's a ridiculous APR to be fair but also wondering if it's linked to browsing history?

We don't know what to believe. I don't know why people take MN so seriously you can be whoever you like here.

Yeah I thought this. How has the OP been caught out? Confused

She has just highlighted an advert popping up that concerned her. I didn't see her claim poverty anywhere on this thread.

Some people are being very harsh on here! 😬

CoalCraft · 27/02/2024 16:47

What weird responses. So if someone is themselves financially well-off they can't be concerned about predatory loans targeting the desperate?

ilovesooty · 27/02/2024 16:48

Why are people combing through posts by the OP on other threads and why are people finding that behaviour amusing?

FabFebHalfTerm · 27/02/2024 16:49

MadameCamembert · 27/02/2024 15:52

A completely un-ideal, bordering on exploitive due to the APR, advert - yes. But ‘offensive’? Has the word lost all meaning?

@MadameCamembert

yes it has, along with 'toxic' and a few others!!

ilovesooty · 27/02/2024 16:48

Because that’s what MN has become. Some people are just horrible and look for any excuse for a fight on some threads. It’s like Means Girls mentality, I don’t think some of them have left the playground judging by some behaviour on here.

Boomer55 · 27/02/2024 16:55

I will never be offended by people trying to sell me rip off loans. Just browse past.🙄

It's really rather grubby and childish and pathetic isn't it @ilovesooty??? If the OP does namechange and disappear under this name, I wouldn't bloody well blame her. Hmm

Alcyoneus · 27/02/2024 16:57

If your offence bar is low, how do you get through the day, OP?

DevaleraSpawnOfSatan · 27/02/2024 16:59

It would appear that having money in the bank and a social conscience are non compatible. 🙄

I wss a qualified Credit Manager before I retired, I always notice APR's

Trawling through previous posts is particularly low life behaviour.

This place gets worse.

Begsthequestion · 27/02/2024 17:02

Totally with you OP. It's disgusting exploitation. Those loan companies should be banned. Parasites on the have nots.

MN should have enough control over their ads that desperate forum members struggling with the cost of living crisis are not served up as fodder for scummy companies like this.

Verv · 27/02/2024 17:03

I think these huge APR loan co's are shitmerchants who prey on the desperate.
You cant stop these co's from advertising though so learning to ignore is probably your easiest solution.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 27/02/2024 17:06

Oh shit I thought someone wanted to give me that interest rate!

SignoraVolpe · 27/02/2024 17:13

My dm is not well off but has a weekly cleaner and a monthly gardener.
When you’re elderly and infirm you have no choice if your dc live away.

PeridotSparkle · 27/02/2024 17:15

I find the threads with people banging on about buying £2k handbags to be more offensive. Disgusting waste of money!

Elephantswillnever · 27/02/2024 17:17

I do think the maximum rate of interest should be capped. I think they do it in Canada.

How can money, circulating around the economy & funding industry, possibly be ‘wasted’? The money didn’t seize to exist. It instead gives people jobs.

LoyalMember · 27/02/2024 17:24

Ha Ha, op busted in a classic self sting....🤣

Whatafustercluck · 27/02/2024 17:25

It is obscene, op, I agree with you. And i'm not really sure how you've been 'caught out', as others have implied. Judging by some of the incendiary replies you've had here, my assumption is that some mumsnetters are hitting the Stella Artois early....

It's not Mumsnet's fault, as others have said it's more about browsing history and algorithms. But an APR like that is irresponsible and obscene. And sadly some will rely on it and get further into debt.

I don’t care a jot how people spend their money. If you want a handbag costing £2,000 and you can afford it, why not?🤷‍♀️
