Posting for traffic!

I'm off to ikea to look at kids beds later. I haven't been for YEARS

Are there any must buys or gadgets/great items that one simply must have to make your home/life easier

Would welcome suggestions!

An octopus for hanging small items of laundry, saves so much space on the line/airer. We call ours the kraken, they have eyes and everything! Only £3 each at the moment too

kraken? That is quite clearly a socktopus!

Yes! I eat a tube in the car on the way home.

There is a Daim and Marabou collab for those of you who like Daim! 😂

Chicheguevara · 23/02/2024 20:11

Get a family card, on your way in, for free tea and coffee. Daim cake is a must, potentially 2 bits. Meat balls (or plant balls) 2.
Silicone oven mits were our latest IKEA find, in the magic market hall area.

They sell furniture too, but we go for the Daim cake and market hall 😍

@errogant I've had elk stew when visiting the Swedish Lapland, so I presume the same taste?

It was delicious after a morning in the snow!

ThinWomansBrain · 23/02/2024 20:17

KONCIS Garlic Press, Stainless Steel
I've had one for years, they've gone up a lot, £3.50 now 😶- I think mine was about £2.
Assuming the spec hasn't changed, they're a really good weight, and easy to use and clean.

alittlebitannexis · 23/02/2024 20:19

Kids' stepstool functions as a squatty potty in our house. We love it, even travel with it. Best thing under a tenner I reckon I've ever purchased.

Noted!! I love a decent garlic crusher!

HippyChickMama · 23/02/2024 20:30

@BuddyBuddyBumBum a socktopus it may be, but I like saying 'unleash the kraken' every time I pull its tentacles down to use it

doneandone · 23/02/2024 20:34

We went today too op. Half price Swedish food in the restaurant. We had 3 meals (fish and chips, plant based meatballs and chips and salmon with buckwheat) 3 drinks and 3 cakes and it came to under £18!!
Also bought a couple of boxes of ziplock bags and some storage boxes. Not been for ages and was actually surprised how cheap some of the items were.

riotlady · 23/02/2024 20:41

We went today, not the most practical item but got a big cuddly shark for £5! DD was very happy

Also love the picture ledges

About the same as reindeer. Reindeer stew and lingonberry. I went to Kiruna a few years ago too, it was great! So, so beautiful.

Savemykitchen · 23/02/2024 20:44

Universal pan lids. They're silicone so super easy to store

Justbrowsing2024 · 23/02/2024 20:47

Skadis pegboards. So versatile.

Ahh, we call this the socktopus. Love it so much we have two.

Daisymay2 · 23/02/2024 20:49

I forgot. Last year I bought a small specimen vase for about £1. Haven’t used it for flower displays but I’ve used it to root cuttings on the kitchen window sill. Must get another.
also those ginger biscuits, but I thought they were a Christmas line.

Skadis pegboards. So versatile.

Pray tell what are these.... I feel an Ikea visit coming on!

GellerYeller · 23/02/2024 20:54

We have more than one soctopus-soctupi?!
The kitchen knives are brilliant. Frying pans, Tupperware, tumblers, pan stands, spoon rests, and don’t forget a frozen yogurt or ice cream when you leave!
I impulse bought cake stands in there once, much cheaper than John Lewis.
DH likes to try to beat their kettling you round the shop in their preferred route by finding the short cuts. Enjoy!

Punxsatawnyphil · 23/02/2024 20:55

The plastic kitchen tweezers are brilliant too, use them every day.

Skadis pegboards are simple but can be used for lots of things. Fornexample
On a kitchen wall for spices
On a bedroom wall for teen gaming
On the side of wardrobes for extra storage
In garages for took storage
In craft rooms on the wall for storage
In offices on the wall or on desk for storage
In bedrooms.
On the inside of a door for shoe storage...
Google skadis pegboard and look at images. There are lots of pics on the IKEA website too with ideas

Random and obscure but the ziplock bags of all sizes are bloody amazing!

Second this!

Also the wide Alex drawer unit on wheels. It's been great for DS13 and all his tools and filament spools for his 3D printer and all his computer cables as the drawers are shallow. I also got him some Kuggis insert trays for it which fit really well.

Crispy onions!

viques · 23/02/2024 21:53

Their freezer bags, the ones with a litre and a half litre size in the same box are my go to.
