Going to ikea, what's good?

Posting for traffic!

I'm off to ikea to look at kids beds later. I haven't been for YEARS

Are there any must buys or gadgets/great items that one simply must have to make your home/life easier

Would welcome suggestions!

Tea lights. It’s the law.

Beamur · 23/02/2024 15:27

That mesh bag would be perfect for camping too.
Got some wooden spoons last time I went - really nicely made and sturdy.
Love that the small towels usually have little tags for hanging them up.
Bath mats.
Glass jars
Ginger biscuits

MEATBALLS
DIAM CAKE

PICKLED HERRINGS

My husband is Dutch and loves herrings! Didn't know you could get them in ikea?!

I've promised to feed him like he is a baby penguin, next time we are there.

He is happy to facilitate this. (He loves penguins too)

Socktopus here as well!!

meatballs
lingonberry jam

NashvilleQueen · 23/02/2024 16:06

They've stopped selling Daims tho which is a national scandal

Please tell me you're joking?

I'm going this weekend or next to look at nursery furniture and I was banking on some veggie balls with chips, peas and gravy, followed by a nice slice of daim in the restaurant.

I don't think my pregnancy hormones could cope with being denied the daim...

SqueakyDinosaur · 23/02/2024 16:31

I have several of their huge rainbow stripey bags - they're incredibly useful for unloading laundry to hang out, collecting recycling in, etc, and much lighter than any receptacle that's officially for that purpose.

Thanks so much everyone.

Lots of votes for socktopus and freezer bags!!

We're actually going tomorrow now as toddler took ages to get down for his nap and now far too cranky to drag round ikea!

@milmilesmachine only minor things that I can think of to definitely pick up, but I love their kids' beakers, side plates and bowls. They are plastic and a kind of shades of pastel colours. They last absolutely ages and are fantastic value for money. Other than that we bought a TV stand (white, wooden) for £17 I think last month and it's brilliant. Sorry I can't recommend anything more exciting lol.

Rechargeable batteries
Ziplock bags (mentioned a million times already)
Extra long iPhone charging cables

An octopus for hanging small items of laundry, saves so much space on the line/airer. We call ours the kraken, they have eyes and everything! Only £3 each at the moment too

No, the pegs are rubbish and disintegrate. Get the square hanging ones instead!

Punxsatawnyphil · 23/02/2024 17:08

Yes to soctopus, we have 5 that go on the washing line for all underwear.
Echo also ziplock bags and scissors.

I also like the food bag clips. I rate the HEMLAGAD frying pans, better than expensive ones for non stick. The wok is years old and still like new.

Krubbet phone holders.

SocksAndTheCity · 23/02/2024 17:12

I am so going to IKEA next weekend 🤣

Punxsatawnyphil · 23/02/2024 17:13

Also the big blue bags, we use them for everything; shopping, tip trips, moving house.

Daisymay2 · 23/02/2024 17:22

Rechargeable batteries, light bulbs, phone stands, those plugs that charge 3 USB devices. Probably too early for garden table and chairs.
Not the socktopus, I like the metal sock hangers from Hangerworld. The one I bought for DC for uni is still going strong after 10 years.

Notreallyawaitress · 23/02/2024 17:35

The stainless steel potato peeler £3, bag clips, dinky ribbed glass coffee mugs, planters & plants

MogTheMoogle · 23/02/2024 17:45

Depends what you need...my house is full of ikea furniture.

We have the 360 glass tupperware which is great - both freezer and oven safe, so does meal prep into the freezer, leftovers for lunch and can cook from the prep dish.

Freezer bags

Various kitchen implements

The Kallax are dangerous. I got one, with some boxes and now I have 3...

Billy bookcases.

Meatballs in the cafe...

errogant · 23/02/2024 18:06

Their glass food containers with lids are great. We have all sizes.

Blankname22 · 23/02/2024 18:15

I wouldn't bother buying a kids bed.
Buy a regular single and you'll get more time from it.
Unless you've a good reason to. It's awkward to replace mattress, buy linen for it etc, whereas single is easier to buy for and will fit an adult if the need arises.
