Just wondering what your true JUDGY thoughts are? I don't wear makeup often I'm in mid forties. How am I perceived? Lazy? Frumpy? Not caring? Boring? Can't be bothered to make an effort for others ? Or confident ? Perceived as being ' pretty enough' ?

Mid 40's myself. I love make up, tho don't wear it regularly. I have a pretty face & am quite attractive so don't feel the need to always slap it on. Plus, I think it makes me look "older" when I wear a full face. I definitely do not judge women who don't wear it.

Lifechange2020 · 17/02/2024 18:49

I do notice it. I think that generally women look better with makeup (not heavy makeup) . I 100% know that I do. I am however lazy and don’t always wear it. Perfectly happy to go out without it. I just know I don’t look as good as I could do!

Acinonyx2 · 17/02/2024 18:53

Never worn make-up. Always thought it was a weird thing to do - and to me - it looks weird.

Greymustard · 17/02/2024 18:58

I'm 50s,

I don't usually wear makeup but will put a slick of lipstick on if I think I look a bit tired. For some reaspn when I'm tired my lips just fade away. It has never occurred to me whether other people would notice if I wear makeup though (the slick of lippy is purely so that I like what i see in the mirror, not for anyone else), and of my friends.... I know a couple who obviously do the whole contour and eyelashes like hoover brushes, so it's clear that they DO spend a lot of time on the regime, but most of them, I couldn't really say if they wear makeup or not.

I'm glad I'm not worried about what other people think, Ive always been a bit of a sartorial slattern and i recommend it, its liberating... I think we would all feel mucj better if we realised that most people don't notice..... too busy worrying whose judging them to have time to judge you....

I did however wear makeup and titted about with my hair when I had brand photos done for my business. So... it was important enough to me that I looked "polished" in order to secure business...

I wouldn't want to be a celebrity though.... I like popping to Aldi in my crocs while looking like Waynetta Slob far too much for the intrusion and judgement of the paps.... God forbid a successful woman leaves the house not giving a rats fart what she looks like...

I'm surprised you think it's weird given that it's existed in some form in pretty much every civilisation we know about.

Shanda5 · 17/02/2024 19:00

Honestly, I never give whether someone wears make up or not a second thought.

restingbitchface30 · 17/02/2024 19:02

I rarely wear make up. Haven’t done since I was 30 I’m now 38. I don’t care what people think. I try and keep a good skincare routine so my skin isn’t too bad. I don’t even really notice when people wear make up or not unless it’s plastered on.

These is a golden oldies song by Joe Dolan. Look it up on You Tube. It is called "you and th elooking Glass" It tells you how men in general feel about makeup. I do not get th emodern lady who plasters her face with crap so trhat you can actually see an orange line and then th eeyes are so obviously false lashes and over green/blue. Ladies you are hiding your beauty not enhancing it

Well, this has made me want to go out and buy as much make-up as I can find 😂

What I find weird is those claiming they don't notice what other people look like. Really? This cannot be true. I never believe anyone who says that race and skin colour are invisible to them- similarly those who claim children can't see skin colour until someone points it out.

Appearance is the first thing we all notice about others, whether you deny that or not. It's part of our genetic makeup and integral to the social aspect of being human that we are all pre-disposed to. The different facial and physical characteristics of others are inherent to our initial reactions and responses to each other. Which is part of the reason why the beauty and fashion industry is so big and our obsession with appearance dominates much of society- and this is not just a recent penonemon, it's present throughout history since the dawn of civilisation and human culture.

But women on MN claim to not notice or make judgements on anyone's appearance... Hmm

I notice what people look like. I would make a judgement if they were unkempt, poor personal hygiene etc but in terms of other people wearing make up (or not), I just don't care.

mylovelytulips · 17/02/2024 19:07

how do ifeel? It would not occur to me to feel anthing at all. It has literally nthing to do with me!

Poodles23 · 17/02/2024 19:09

I just assume women who don’t wear makeup are happy with their looks, and those that do wear it are not or feel better with it.

But...but... a man said he didn't like it! Where is your sense of decency???

Supersares · 17/02/2024 19:22

Im 51 and don’t judge older women either way if they’re wearing makeup or not. I admire older women who can wear makeup well as it can be a fine line between it looking good and OTT (eye brows in particular are tricky once they start thinning) I also admire women who go make up free for not giving a crap. I wear make up for work but weekends don’t always bother unless I have a night/day out…I enjoy the confidence make up gives me as some days feel like I really need it!

BigButtons · 17/02/2024 19:22

But would anyone wear make up if they were the last person on earth or if everyone else around them were blind?
women wear make because of how they think they are perceived by others. If there was no one to look at them what would be the point?

NonPlayerCharacter · 17/02/2024 19:30

Of course not, I'd be too busy stealing everything.

Thanks for telling me why I do the things I do.

i bet half the women posting here in judgement of women wearing make up, have pierced ears. No reason for that either (and it’s painful) but your body your choice and I’m not going to tell anyone otherwise. Why not do the same?

user1472151176 · 17/02/2024 19:31

I don't notice. If anything I notice heavy make up more.

firstfamhol · 17/02/2024 19:33

Honestly I don’t think it would even register if someone wasn’t wearing makeup! I’m more likely to notice if someone is wearing makeup that doesn’t suit them, or someone wearing beautiful makeup and I would want to know what products they use!

laylababe5 · 17/02/2024 19:37

I wear makeup every day. I work with two women who don't. I don't think anything of it. It's a personal choice, nothing to do with me.

I imagine you look like somebody who is much too exciting and ready for adventure to be arsed with spending time trying to make yourself look like something you're not.

Um...maybe you don't realise this, but for most women, wearing makeup has nothing to do with men looking at us. In fact, very little of what we do has anything to do with the existence of men.

Mummamap · 17/02/2024 19:52

In my fifties and I wear make up very rarely. I don’t need it! I think I look better without it. I really dislike the fake colour, lashes brows etc..
my older teenage daughter doesn’t wear makeup either and she says she feels sorry for the girls that feel they have to wear makeup all the time.
At the end of the day we should all feel good in our own skin.

CestLaVie123 · 17/02/2024 19:52

I don't notice, and obviously wouldnt think anything of it! I wear some light/neutral makeup for work or going out, but otherwise none, i really hadnt even thought about what others would think!

CestLaVie123 · 17/02/2024 19:54

Early 50s i should add

Rachealreid · 17/02/2024 19:59

I have started getting eyelash extension this year and now hardly wear any make up. But I don't judge others for not wearing it each to their own
