Just wondering what your true JUDGY thoughts are? I don't wear makeup often I'm in mid forties. How am I perceived? Lazy? Frumpy? Not caring? Boring? Can't be bothered to make an effort for others ? Or confident ? Perceived as being ' pretty enough' ?

I used to wear a bit but no honestly I cannot be arsed. I am 56 and put my work into skin care. I have very good skin and don’t need foundation.
very few of my friends wear much make up.
i feel sad when I see when absolutely pasted in the stuff. I have no idea what they actually look like.
why is it men don’t need to wear make up to look better but we do? That really irritates me.
although having said that I do like eyeliner on men!

I think a lot of people don't realise how important skincare is. Your skin absolutely needs makeup free days, however meticulous you are about taking it off at night. Hydration and suncare, with a pinch of lucky genes, are what really count. You can't cover up poor skin with makeup and hope to look good.

Sensible

Missingpop · 17/02/2024 17:43

I’m in my early 50s I wear make up when I want to; personally I don’t give too hoots if people think; what matters is how I feel about myself; I’m always dressed in immaculate clean clothes, my hair is done daily & I regularly do my nails but there are days when I don’t want to wear make up & that’s fine; I certainly won’t be wearing a bag on my head on those days; because I’m confident enough to go bare 😂😂

FreddieMercurysCat · 17/02/2024 17:45

I wear makeup maybe once or twice a year. Don’t give a shit what people think. I don’t judge other women either because it’s a massive faff.

Cicero1 · 17/02/2024 17:50

At the risk of sounding judgemental; it depends upon the person, their age, the shape of face, condition of skin, and the emotional uplift wearing make up affords any given individual.

tennesseewhiskey1 · 17/02/2024 17:52

I don’t care either way. You can do what you like.

chaosmaker · 17/02/2024 17:53

@flutterby1 why would anyone feel anything?

Greenshed · 17/02/2024 17:55

I hardly ever wear the stuff. If I’m going somewhere special I will, but most days I don’t wear any at all, and I really don’t care what anyone thinks about that (if they even do notice, actually, but imagine most people don’t).
Its such a faff removing it all too, especially when tired and I just want to go to bed, but know it has to be done, after which I’m wide awake.
I use moisturiser everyday, though.

CeCeDrake · 17/02/2024 17:56

I genuinely don’t think about it, I don’t wear makeup often myself and have always been this way, I am early 30s so I dont think I’ll change any time soon! I can feel self conscious at times if I have not one bit of makeup on and the beautiful person beside me has a face full but then I check myself and remind myself that we all have a bare face under makeup!

BooBooDoodle · 17/02/2024 17:57

If I had flawless skin and microscopic pores, I wouldn’t wear it! I wear it for work only and let my skin breathe of a weekend. I don’t really care too much about who wears it or not. Personal choice. I don’t even notice to be fair.

justaboutdonenow · 17/02/2024 18:00

I very rarely wear makeup & anyone who has an opinion or proffers some pathetic label like 'frumpy' or 'lazy' on that can fuck right off.

greendaisie · 17/02/2024 18:06

Does moisturiser count as make up?

linsey2581 · 17/02/2024 18:14

I’m 42 and have never worn make up even in my teenage years. The one time I did wear make up was my wedding day and even then DH said I didn’t look like me, it was quickly removed at night time 😂.
i also have only ever used soap and water to wash my face. No creams no moisturiser, absolutely nothing and that why my skin is fab. No spots plooks or anything like that.

byteme1011 · 17/02/2024 18:14

I am now wondering too! I don't wear make up usually have my eyebrows tinted (and I definitely look terrible without my eyebrows tinted/plucked/shaped and will admit if it's pouring/freezing outside I look like i'm homeless wear as many thermals/waterproofs as I can and folk laugh but better that than drenched/freezing),
I wish I could apply a good face that wasn't heavy! I'm so heavy handed on nights on and I end up washing it off in the toilet.

NoDought · 17/02/2024 18:19

I would say I don’t really notice but I often don’t wear make up either so not sure if it’s different if you are someone who wears a lot of makeup. I would say it’s not that you notice people wearing make up but might notice or remark if they look very well polished or wear a particularly striking colour lip for example.

Jzp · 17/02/2024 18:19

I envy them. I’ve worn makeup since I was 14, I’m in my mid 60s. I love makeup but I don’t love “heavy” makeup. Would love to go out barefaced but I look as white as sheet and just don’t have the confidence. I suppose if I was only allowed to wear one item it would be eye pencil (brown).

littlejlr · 17/02/2024 18:22

I don't wear make up, but have quite a lot of expensive make up in a bag in drawer. Tbh, I had never known how to apply or suitable colours to use until I got married and had some ladies apply if for me from a well known branded stand in a high store on 2 occasoons. First time i looked like a panda, 2nd time was better. I used to try when I was younger, but looked a clown. I have only had a 'face on' a small handful of times since. I find it uncomfortable to wear and feel incredibly conscious wearing make up. My dh doesn't like me wearing make up either, says I look far better without it. I don't judge anyone for wearing or not wearing make up. It's a personal choice.

SheepAndSword · 17/02/2024 18:22

Fine? People can do what they like.

I prefer to wear a little bit of make up but that's me.

Middleagedspreadisreal · 17/02/2024 18:24

Would much rather see no make-up than plumped up lips and ridiculously long length eye lashes that, quite frankly, look ugly.

SouthEastCoast · 17/02/2024 18:27

I don’t really notice. I notice it more when someone wears loads of make up.
I wear eye makeup but not face makeup so maybe if I did I would notice more..

wpshark · 17/02/2024 18:30

These is a golden oldies song by Joe Dolan. Look it up on You Tube. It is called "you and th elooking Glass" It tells you how men in general feel about makeup. I do not get th emodern lady who plasters her face with crap so trhat you can actually see an orange line and then th eeyes are so obviously false lashes and over green/blue. Ladies you are hiding your beauty not enhancing it

NonPlayerCharacter · 17/02/2024 18:41

Oh, we know what they say. And we know they're talking shite. They don't know what most makeup looks like. They don't know the difference between no makeup and natural makeup. And if we all did actually stop wearing makeup, they'd run screaming. And nobody's decision about whether or not to wear it should be dictated by what men think anyway.

i loveee make up i would never even run the shop without a full face but the last few years i honestly cannot be bothered some days i wonder if i just look lazy but tbh i actually don't care anymore maybe it comes with age (i'm 37) that you just begin not to care anymore of what people think of you
