To think I don't owe this person a refund?

Sold something on Vinted. An item of children's clothing. It cost around £25 new and I sold it for a few pounds. It was barely used so like new.

I sell a lot on there and I'm always over cautious about condition of items and haven't had any problems.

The person is complaining that it doesn't fit and suggesting it's been tumble dried. It 100% hasn't. I was everything on a cool short wash and air dry. They are after a refund but don't want to send the item back understandably because sure of postage.

In my opinion it wasn't a small fitting item or I'd have mentioned this in the listing.

Of course you don't owe them a refund. If it's labelled correctly then there's not much to be done about it.

It's the risk you take buying stuff unseen on the internet.

gggrrrargh · 09/02/2024 08:28

Agree you don’t owe a refund

Mylovelygreendress · 09/02/2024 08:29

Why don’t they resell it ?

Mischance · 09/02/2024 08:29

They want a refund and to keep the garment - as my gran used to say "I should cocoa!" They are playing games. Tell them to hop it.

I sell loads too and had this a couple of times, I've offered for them to return it only. If you offer to return only they can't get a refund. They try it on in hope you say to keep it.

Jodie782 · 09/02/2024 08:30

Also check their feedback you might see they do jt to others.

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 09/02/2024 08:38

No refund unless they return it.
You wouldn't go into a shop and return an item because it doesn't fit and get to keep the item plus your money back.
They're trying it on

Alwayswonderedwhy · 09/02/2024 08:47

I had the same situation with an item I sold. Customer was clearly larger than they thought they were and tried to say the item had shrunk.
I offered a refund on return and never heard back from them. No return, no refund.

skyeisthelimit · 09/02/2024 08:51

It’s tough but they need to return for refund.

I had to return a filthy broken item and pay for postage. Vinted wouldn’t do anything even though it wasn’t fit for sale. It was either lose £3 or lose £9.

Richie23 · 09/02/2024 09:15

I sold a dog harness on eBay recently, put the details on the listing. The buyer then asked for a refund as it’s too big for her dog. I did explain that she should have measured etc. I just said I’ll refund when it’s returned to me, so waiting for that just now. It’s annoying that people do this - they’re getting something for a lot less money than they usually would, but still don’t bother to check if it’ll fit and then act like you as the seller have tricked them 🙄

BlueGrey1 · 09/02/2024 10:39

No return, no refund

littlejellyfish · 09/02/2024 17:41

No return no refund!! Simple. Sounds like they’re trying to just get the item for free.

RatatouillePie · 09/02/2024 17:43

I'd send a message saying the item was true to size but as a gesture of good will you will refund if they return the item at their own expense.

Coconutter24 · 10/02/2024 06:58

They don’t get to decide to not return the item that decision is up to you. Decline the return and if they open a case with vinted click the option item to be returned and buyer pays postage. They’ll soon drop it if the item is as you say.

LlynTegid · 10/02/2024 07:02

Got it for a one-off event which has happened I'd guess. A bit like some of the shop returns many retailers get.

Just say no.

DottyLottieLou · 10/02/2024 07:36

No, if it doesn't fit Vinted say they should resell. Anyway if they want a refund they should post back at their own cost which is probably more than they paid so not worth it.

DottyLottieLou · 10/02/2024 07:38

And then block them

SKG231 · 10/02/2024 07:46

Pop a caption in your bio saying products sold as seen and described, no refunds.

JustlikeElllie · 10/02/2024 08:20

I offered to refund if they returned it. They won't return because sure of the postage but I'm hardly going to just let them have it for free.

They could easily sell it on as it's a popular item/brand.

She hasn't raised a case but just hasn't bothered to click item received.

I had this situation, someone claiming I’d washed a jumper too hot and it had shrunk. However she requested to return it and paid the postage. When I got it back I’m convinced it just didn’t fit her. I wouldn’t be letting them keep it, they need to return it. If they don’t click confirm or raise an issue the sale will automatically in a couple of days and your funds will be released.

dailyduel · 10/02/2024 08:27

Return or no refund. If she’s not confirmed receipt, I think the system automatically finalises the sale anyway when it knows it’s been delivered or picked up.

CantFindTheBeat · 10/02/2024 08:35

You'll get your money in a couple of days anyway, OP.

Vinted's customer service is crap - I didn't actually receive an item and I'm still waiting, a month later, for a refund, as Vinted 'investigate' so I can't imagine she'll get anywhere with them even if she does raise an issue!

Dottina · 10/02/2024 08:38

It will automatically mark as received if she does nothing. You can also raise it with Vinted. I've had to do it before when someone said a dress I'd sold wasn't the fabric I'd said. Luckily there were photos of the fabric label on the listing and it was 100% what I'd said. She was nice about it in the end and even left me good feedback. But Vinted sided with me fwiw.

WhatsitWiggle · 10/02/2024 08:38

I've bought several things on Vinted that have run small. I just relist them, it's not worth the postage cost to return if the item was under a tenner in the first place.

It's the risk you take with buying second hand. She should have asked you for exact measurements - buyer beware. Don't refund until she returns the item.

If she raises a dispute, it's not like ebay, the email comes to you and you just reply to say you'll refund when she returns the item. If she does nothing, it goes through anyway after five days.

If she doesn't raise a dispute, the funds get released after 48 hours.

This. No return no refund.
