To think I don't owe this person a refund?

Sold something on Vinted. An item of children's clothing. It cost around £25 new and I sold it for a few pounds. It was barely used so like new.

I sell a lot on there and I'm always over cautious about condition of items and haven't had any problems.

The person is complaining that it doesn't fit and suggesting it's been tumble dried. It 100% hasn't. I was everything on a cool short wash and air dry. They are after a refund but don't want to send the item back understandably because sure of postage.

In my opinion it wasn't a small fitting item or I'd have mentioned this in the listing.

YANBU. They either have buyers regret or it just doesn’t fit their child. They need to resell it themselves, this is what I do if I buy something on there that doesn’t fit or suit.

I bought a love jumper from Vinted that has an oversize type style so assumed (without measuring) that I'd fit it.

Turns out it's a S/M and I'm a M/L. I'm gutted but it's not the Seller's fault that I'm trigger-happy. I've given her and her item a positive review and I'm getting ready to sell it on today.

MyDearOliveDuck · 12/02/2024 09:21

I would definitely not give her a refund unless and after she sends the item back. Otherwise I absolutely would not.

I've always been super lucky on vinted - a few things haven't been to my liking but that's the risk you take!

I did get poor feedback once with the buyer saying item came up small. I was pretty annoyed at that as I specifically said item comes up small in the listing. Hasn't put people off buying from me.

Vinted actually state in their Terms, they don't accept it doesn't fit as a reason to complain or return, or words to that effect. Had someone try this with me. I did offer for her to return it out of kindness, but she didn't want to so not my problem. I've vbought things that don't fit, it the nature of buying on the Internet, secondhand. I just sold them on

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 12/02/2024 11:56

Lol

There's always one isn't there.

I had someone who wanted me to refund them because the shoes they bought must be a small 6 because they are a 6 in all their other shoes but the ones I sold them don't fit.
I would have said in my listing. Just tell them you don't refund for items that don't fit. It's not Dorothy feckin Perkins.

They want a refund and to keep the garment - as my gran used to say "I should cocoa!" They are playing games. Tell them to hop it.

Someone did with me once for a 99p + postage top on EBay. Threatened to give me a bad review if I didn’t refund. Put me off using eBay for 6 years. I’ve been using again for 4 years now without issues. I tend to put measurements for clothes shoulder to hem and across the chest as I know how much the same size can vary.

You’d think at least for low costs items it should really be buyer aware. I had no refunds stated clearly on my eBay profile and no issues except one buyer who tried to get a refund for a real leather jacket I’d sold her for £13. It had the real leather symbol inside it and I’d bought it from new look the year before. It was in great condition.

She claimed it wasn’t real leather so she wanted to return it on that basis. She said if I accepted her return she’d put me in touch with her mate who is a lawyer and then I can sue New Look for “lying” 😂 she was absolutely bonkers. Even if NL were lying I wouldn’t have cared as I’d got it for cheap on the clearance rack and she’d got it even cheaper.

Obviously I just said held my ground so it went to eBay or PayPal disputes who rejected her claim after I presented an email I’d got from NL headquarters backing me up.

Perhaps it was cheap leather or not to her taste, but she had got it for £13 so it was absolutely absurd she’d taken it that far.

She didn’t leave any review in the end and I didn’t leave for one for her either. Perhaps I should’ve to warn others but I didn’t want her leaving a revenge bad review.

Maybe they stuck in a tumble dryer and in shrank!

Large companies have stopped free returns. I can say sports direct definitely make you pay postage to return and I recall another asking if I wanted to pay £2 for a returns label but can't remember which company it was as I don't buy online much. May have been M&S, Wayfair or Very, or all 3. Can't remember if I ordered from anyone else. Tell them to send it back just like you would have to if you bought from company.

Underestimated4 · 13/02/2024 14:09

Don’t send a refund they’re trying it on and probably do this a lot.

Jojofjo44 · 15/02/2024 10:04

Yeah no refund. Offer return then refund you'll never hear from them again. Unfortunately there's a small minority that do this regularly playing on sellers good nature. I've bought things that haven't been suitable for us I've just resold.

Jeannie88 · 16/02/2024 23:17

YANBU, I always get next size up to avoid this. Not your fault item doesn't fit. Have bought things which didn't fit well so lesson learnt and now ask questions to check. No way would I dream of asking for a refund, it's not a shop ffs! X
