To think I don't owe this person a refund?

Sold something on Vinted. An item of children's clothing. It cost around £25 new and I sold it for a few pounds. It was barely used so like new.

I sell a lot on there and I'm always over cautious about condition of items and haven't had any problems.

The person is complaining that it doesn't fit and suggesting it's been tumble dried. It 100% hasn't. I was everything on a cool short wash and air dry. They are after a refund but don't want to send the item back understandably because sure of postage.

In my opinion it wasn't a small fitting item or I'd have mentioned this in the listing.

Some people are fucking triers. I sold a brand new jumper with tags for £17. The buyer said I was a liar, it had clearly been worn with food stains and I had reattached the label.

I assumed she had problems so I sent her a return label and didn’t argue. I covered postage but was pissed off.

I got the item back and it was fine! I suspect she changed her mind and didn’t want to pay postage so made up some bullshit excuse.

In this case I would say she has to cover the cost of posting it back to you as you will be out of pocket otherwise and see what she says. If she argues, Send evidence to Vinted customer service and hopefully they will help.

It makes me laugh sometimes different peoples versions of very good!

Pop a caption in your bio saying products sold as seen and described, no refunds.

That would put me off a seller. Makes it sound like they get a LOT of complaints.

CaramelMac · 11/02/2024 07:25

who asks for a refund on second hand items, surely it’s buyer beware!

Minadka · 11/02/2024 10:20

I had ZARA faux fur coat up for sale for £10.
Lady messaged me and asked how quick I can post it because she will be going away soon and needs it asap. I posted everything an hour later. She messaged me few days later. She said that coat doesn’t fit her and she would like to return it for a full refund 🙄
I simply said that I don’t offer returns or refunds. Annoying because I always provide a lot of photos including photos on me so buyer can understand how it fits. She never messaged me back.

JosieHetty · 11/02/2024 17:49

Op. I gave up posting on vinted for a similarly unfair complaint. Not worth the stress anymore.

Utterknowitall · 11/02/2024 18:16

If she's received the item, and not marked it as received, maybe you should be the one opening a case?

justanothermumsy · 11/02/2024 18:18

I'm afraid you a not a shop and you don't offer a try before you buy policy. It's a second hand sales platform. So unless it's a fake or not as described then no you don't need to do a refund. Ignore the messages and you'll get the money automatically in two days

Someone did with me once for a 99p + postage top on EBay. Threatened to give me a bad review if I didn’t refund. Put me off using eBay for 6 years. I’ve been using again for 4 years now without issues. I tend to put measurements for clothes shoulder to hem and across the chest as I know how much the same size can vary.

Greenshed · 11/02/2024 18:35

The person is definitely trying to pull a fast one. No return, no refund.

Icantrememberit · 11/02/2024 18:45

Screen shot all correspondence, make vinted aware. They’re going to try and pull a swifty. Do not refund, item is true to size and sold as described. You are not at fault.

Lollipop81 · 11/02/2024 18:46

If they want a refund then ask them to return it at their cost. Don’t issue the refund until you have received it.

Closetheblinds · 11/02/2024 18:47

Are you sure they wanted a refund?
I had a seller on there assume I wanted a refund when I was in fact notifying them of their poor quality items.

Sapphireblueeyes · 11/02/2024 19:01

Definitely NOT I sell on Vinted and buy a lot, you sold correctly.
tell her to bog off.

peakygold · 11/02/2024 19:17

On ebay, some business sellers automatically refund when a buyer opens a request to return case. The buyer gets to keep the item. Amazon also do this sometimes - we bought a 'Pudsey Bear' top and I stupidly ordered the wrong size for DD, but they just refunded, so I gave it to a charity shop. Maybe your Vinted buyer thinks the same thing happens there? Don't refund.

Ktime · 11/02/2024 19:39

They probably do this a lot to get free items. Be very firm with your no, no apologies.

MountainBarbie · 11/02/2024 19:44

They can resell it if they're that bothered, what is wrong with these people!

WigglyVonWaggly · 11/02/2024 20:13

She’s a chancer hoping for a refund without returning the item so that she effectively wins twice. Point out that you can’t allow her to keep an item of value and have a refund as then you’re out of pocket twice. You’ll refund her if the item is returned.

I bet you don’t hear a thing from her.

Sennelier1 · 11/02/2024 21:06

Oh well, some people will always try to get even more out of a bargain. Don't go with it. Do you think it might be a so.ition (in the future) to add exact measures using a measuring tape? No discussion then 🤷🏼‍♀️

JMSA · 11/02/2024 21:30

I've bought stuff that doesn't fit me. It never would occur to me to get back to the seller with that. It's tough titty for me! As a previous poster said, it's the risk you take when you buy online.

IainTorontoNSW · 11/02/2024 22:05

It's like buying a car "AS IS".

If the person had any doubts, before the sale closed was the time to ask the probing questions. Whenever I buy good used T-shirts or new unboxed but "never worn" items, I ask, "how many cm/mm from armpit to armpit?" and "how long from top edge of rear of collar to centre-bottom of seam?"

I have caught myself out at times. Some 2XLs at ALDI clothing sales are somewhat smaller than other items marked at L or XL. I've learned to ask on eBay and other sales platforms.

By your telling of your situation, I think you should POLITELY skip the refund.

Miisty · 12/02/2024 05:55

My son sold coins on eBay a group of collectors contacted ebay said they did not receive them Had proof of postage but got blocked They tried it on got coins for nothing and ripped of a disabled person Some people are just scammers

Marmalady75 · 12/02/2024 06:17

I sold a maternity dress on eBay. Buyer set up a dispute saying it stank of BO and was stained. She took photos of herself wearing it and sent them to eBay with a plate of spaghetti literally tipped over her lap saying that is how it arrived. EBay took her side and I now refuse to sell anything on their site. It was obvious she was wearing it out, spilled her meal and took a “funny photo” then decided to try it on. EBay didn’t have an answer when I asked why she had put on a dress that stank, had food all over the lap and then sat down at a table wearing it.

T1Dmama · 12/02/2024 07:57

Did you not get it posted with a ‘signed for’ option? Or is that not possible?
mind you if you ask vinted for help they can see from the messages it’s been received …
as others have said I would demand it being returned before refunding.
I bought something using PayPal once (in my size) but it arrived about 5 sizes too small!! Even PayPal wouldn’t refund unless items were returned… the address I had to return to was all in Chinese!
Ebay only refund with out return if the item is faulty and photos show that!…

Infact I’ve just ordered online from sports direct and it’s cost me £4.99 to return 2 items that don’t fit/don’t like… and they don’t except online purchases returned in store (which I find terrible customer service!) so I won’t buy from them again online ever! ….. but that’s a big company so no way a private seller like yourself should cover postage costs or refund without return.

T1Dmama · 12/02/2024 07:57

Are they expecting the postage cost refunded too?
sound like CF’s
