Just that really, it's shrove Tuesday it is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Lent – the 40 days leading up to Easter – was traditionally a time of fasting

It's pancake day in our house

starlight889 · 07/02/2024 15:57

Is it really that deep?

Ginandjuice57884 · 07/02/2024 15:57

Pancake day not pancake Tuesday 😂

SomethingUniqueThisTime · 07/02/2024 15:57

Never heard it called Pancake Tuesday. We call it Pancake Day here!

LittleGreenDragons · 07/02/2024 15:58

Depends if you are Christian or not. I call it both tbh, depending on whether I'm talking to elders (Christian) or children (hungry gannets).

ISpeakahDuolingo · 07/02/2024 15:58

I get what you're saying. But, most people really like pancakes and really don't like fasting, so you can see how the rebrand has occurred... We love pancake day in my house 😄😋

Marmite27 · 07/02/2024 15:58

Pancake day or Shrove Tuesday, never Pancake Tuesday!

pickledandpuzzled · 07/02/2024 15:59

Pancake day if you just want to mark a cultural tradition.

Shrove Tuesday if you want to acknowledge the religious roots of the practice.

The vast vast majority of those eating pancakes won’t be fasting in any fashion at all, so quibbling about the name seems a bit unreasonable.

Puddingpieplum · 07/02/2024 15:59

For non Christians pancake day is grand. There's advertising campaigns etc around it all. We would call it Shrove Tuesday as a Christian family, don't mind what others call itm

BroughttoyoubyBerocca · 07/02/2024 15:59

I’m Catholic, I always do lent. Pancake day is fine, maybe go worry about something important?

FuckingHellAdele · 07/02/2024 15:59

Jif Lemon Day 😀

Kwam31 · 07/02/2024 15:59

Not everyone is religious but still want to mark the day.

Stevesellsshells · 07/02/2024 16:00

We're atheists. It's pancake day. The best day of the year.

SophiaElise · 07/02/2024 16:00

I'm atheist so it's pancake day for me!

OhItsOnlyCynthia · 07/02/2024 16:00

Pancake day is a very special day for greedy atheists, and I will not let you take that away from us.

Whatevs23 · 07/02/2024 16:00

Pancake Day, Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras. There are many names for it. You can call it what you want.

IncompleteSenten · 07/02/2024 16:01

It is if you're an actual Christian. Same as Christmas is bugger all to do with Santa and Easter isn't about chocolate eggs.

But UK isn't a religious Christian country so much as a pagan country wearing a culturally christian cunning disguise.

Pagans are all about the feasting festivals and so yes, for most of us it really is about the pancakes.

Hoedownwho · 07/02/2024 16:01

Are you annoyed that Easter is all about the chocolate and Christmas is all about buying excessive amounts of presents and food? Oh and santa! You do you and we will do what makes us and our families happy.

BitchImTheSecretIngredient · 07/02/2024 16:03

🤷🏻‍♀️ dont call it that then

fuckssaaaaake · 07/02/2024 16:03

starlight889 · 07/02/2024 15:57

Is it really that deep?

Not if it's a crepe it isn't

themidnightbarber · 07/02/2024 16:03

I grew up in a vicarage with a vicar, are active Christians, will participate in lent by giving something up etc ..we still call it pancake day 😁

We'll be having fluffy American pancakes, maple syrup, crispy bacon and strawberries and blueberries! 🥞

Chylka · 07/02/2024 16:03

You had me worried it was today and I’d lost track of time, then I remembered it’s a Wednesday today…🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

Itsmychristmasdress · 07/02/2024 16:03

It's pancake tuesday here!

BoohooWoohoo · 07/02/2024 16:04

I’m not a Christian so I call it pancake day and buy in ingredients like toppings without any guilt because I’m not religious.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 07/02/2024 16:06

i have never heard it called that - pancake day or shrove Tuesday.
