AIBU?

Would you nose around a partner's ex wife's house if you had the chance?

This is prompted by the "Destroy and do not read" thread.

I had to look after my partner's ex wife's house for a few days when he had to work away and I had to feed the dog. It was my first time there without him. Would you use this time to nose around a bit - look at the various rooms , open her wardrobes etc and just be plain nosy or would you feed the dog and leave?

Feed the dog and leave.

EdinGirl · 13/01/2024 12:52

No.

That is a huge violation and it would make me feel sick if someone did that to me.

I think that snooping after someone is dead is pretty harmless, I would probably do it if it was my mum for example.

But snooping in someone's house when you were trusted, ESPECIALLY when you are with their ex, would be VILE behaviour.

Prawncow · 13/01/2024 12:52

This is why I don’t let people have unsupervised access to my house. I respect other people’s privacy but plenty of people would nose about.

JusticeIsAFickleWench · 13/01/2024 12:53

No I wouldn’t. I would feel sneaky. Besides, these days with so many people having small internal cameras in their homes, I’d hate to be the person that gets caught doing that!

Workworkandmoreworknow · 13/01/2024 12:54

Wow. Why would you even consider violating her privacy?

FlamingoYellow · 13/01/2024 12:54

Feed the dog and leave. I doubt I would find anything of interest to me anyway and I would feel bad that someone put their trust in me and I broke it.

ManateeFair · 13/01/2024 12:56

No, I wouldn’t be nosing around. It’s a shitty thing to do. I’m not saying I wouldn’t want to, but I wouldn’t actually do it.

I’m a curious person by nature, but I curb that tendency in other people’s houses. I can’t bear snoopers.

SoOutingWhoCares · 13/01/2024 12:56

No. It's a shitty intrusive thing to do.

Would you like it, if it was you who had been snooped on?

There's your answer. Do unto others and all that...

IamaPopof · 13/01/2024 12:56

Does it make a difference then if the person is dead as in the "Destroy and do not read" one?

No, I'd only go into rooms I needed to. And definitely wouldn't be opening cupboards w/o good reason.

I have live-in pet-sitters so in theory they have access to every cupboard in the house. The only ones I'd object to them going into are in my bedroom. In reality, would I know? And if I did find out, I would think less of them.

SoOutingWhoCares · 13/01/2024 12:58

Do the dead not deserve dignity and respect, OP?

Do you enjoy the idea of someone snooping through your personal effects after your death?

AnotherDayAnotherDoller · 13/01/2024 12:59

No. Dead or Alive.
Unless you are involved in clearing out the house you habe absolutely no reason to do anything other than feed the dog.

Singingasong · 13/01/2024 12:59

I wouldn’t. Tbh I wouldn’t even be interested. Maybe I’m not a nosey person.

You seem to be missing the point of my thread. It is a moral one and I am interested in seeing how the two compare. Perhaps read the other thread too.

The correct and socially acceptable answer is no of course not, I wouldn't dream of it.

Edited

If she dies it is still not your place to snoop, that would possibly be worse.

StBrides · 13/01/2024 13:01

No, but I think the majority of people would

MoneyMoneyMoneyy · 13/01/2024 13:02

No I would not nose around. Why would you????? Feed the dog and go.

QueenCamilla · 13/01/2024 13:02

No, wouldn't be able to muster up any excitement for it.

SoOutingWhoCares · 13/01/2024 13:02

@IamaPopof I'm not missing the point of either thread. You just don't like my answers.

No. It's never acceptable. For the reasons I've outlined.

cakecoffeecakecoffee · 13/01/2024 13:03

No.

MillicentRogers · 13/01/2024 13:03

I I wouldn't look around as they would be intrusive and horrible.

I would also think she had set up hidden cameras!

Yoyoban · 13/01/2024 13:03

Feed the dog and leave.

I've stayed in friends and families houses pet/house sitting and I don't even like looking through specific cupboards I need to get essential pet care/cooking items from, or going into their bedroom to retrieve the pet, because I feel like I'm snooping.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 13/01/2024 13:04

I probably wouldn’t because I’d be worried about ring doorbells/ hidden cameras etc but I’d want to!
