To ask what's gone wrong with your Christmas so far?

Just because I'm revelling in my own misery.

DS has been up all night with his 3rd raging stomach bug of the month. I thought we'd got unlucky enough to have 2 floor the house but I'm now running on no sleep while he can't keep anything in either end. I am SO obsessed with Christmas Eve and Christmas.. I know it's little in the long-term but I'm just so gutted and absolutely terrified it's going to keep spreading through the house.

So give me something to distract me and tell me what has gone wrong for you for Christmas this year.

Well not really answering you but can you just postpone Christmas til the 27th? Tell ds Santa knew he was poorly so has wanted to hold onto things.

firedeer · 24/12/2023 08:36

@BibbleandSqwauk I'm working every day after Christmas to New Year but also 1) have other DC and 2) think not only DS would have a meltdown if Father Christmas didn't come tomorrow but I don't think I'd cope changing Christmas Day to a day that's not Christmas, think I'd rather crawl out of my own skin (I know it's strange).
It's a great suggestion, but it definitely wouldn't work for us.

We have also had a billion bugs this month. My washing pile is bigger than the children because they've had d&v accidents in the beds and over toys and everywhere so all the usual clothes washing has taken a back seat to the bedsheets. No tumble dryer so my whole house looks like Widow Twanky's wash room. I haven't wrapped any presents yet because the children have been up and down every 5 minutes throughout the night so I don't dare sit down to do it in case they come down and see their presents. And now discovered we also have nits.

Rocknrollstar · 24/12/2023 08:42

Ive opened two cartons of juice this morning and discovered that both have been tampered with (foil seals broken). I forgot to buy DH a tube of Bonjela and I also forgot to buy Parmesan. Otherwise we are all just getting over Covid and watching the tide come in.

firedeer · 24/12/2023 08:45

@DriftingDrifter I'm glad it's not just us getting battered by D&V bugs. Are they more rife than usual this year? Confused and sorry about the nits!

We've had a lot of bugs. Woke up with a awful headache, which I think is sinus related, and coughed so much I was sick.

I'm a parish priest with the most important service of the year tonight, and I've lost my voice....

PurpleOrchid42 · 24/12/2023 08:54

Me and husband have both got covid. Might mean family don't come on the day.

cuckyplunt · 24/12/2023 08:56

4 hours in casualty with Mum.
Many Thanks to those at the Derby Royal Infirmary.. running a tight ship there!

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/12/2023 08:57

Got covid, tested positive this morning 😔

JustJoinedRightNow · 24/12/2023 09:00

Oh no everyone. I'm sorry you're having a crappy time in the lead up.
Our toilet broke and exploded into the yard three days ago so that was fun. Fortunately it got fixed.
DS 10yo woke in the night with a huge fever. He feels better today. Argh

Sourisblanche · 24/12/2023 09:00

My dd(19) was really rude to me last night. She did apologise this morning on her way to work which is nice as I was going to wrap her remaining presents in bright pink paper which she hates Wink

To be fair to her, she’s been working in retail this week after a long term at uni and she’s knackered. I’m also a bit wobbly because my mum is terminal with not long to go.

Anyway new day today….happy Christmas Eve.

firedeer · 24/12/2023 09:01

Seems so many are sick as well - such frustrating timing!

DD (22 months) has had a fever since Friday, with upset stomach. Just had to cancel plans to have breakfast with a friend and hoping she perks up before tomorrow 🤞

5 weeks pregnant with a much anticipated first grandchild in the family and not anywhere near ready to announce! Luckily no nausea yet but I'm going to have to be a bit creative with excuses for not drinking or eating all the brie. My DH and I have been trying for nearly a year so no doubt I'll have to share my pretend plans for seeing the GP for fertility support in the new year.

You don't have to share anything!! Just say you're staying positive & change the topic

Tricky, but a lovely problem to have! Wishing you a happy pregnancy and hope you can keep the secret over Christmas!

I'm stressed as my DF has cancer and I'm hosting Christmas. I lost my shit with DS16 last night (he was shouting with friends online at 1am) and now he's refusing to do his part in preparing the meal. In the heat of the moment I told him he won't be eating it then.

Tumbleweed101 · 24/12/2023 09:15

We’ve had a run of bad christmases so I’m just waiting for something this year.

2020 - my daughter tested positive for Covid on Xmas day. We had to go to a testing station to do a PCR. Then the household had to isolate for the ten days so couldn’t see extended family.

2021 - my brother went to bring my dad over for Xmas day but he was in so much pain he couldn’t get in the car. My dad and brother had to stay in London over the Christmas/new year period while the rest of us were at home worrying. He was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks later.

2022 - dad had gone into remission early December after a gruelling year of treatment. Arrived at ours and we could see he was poorly. He spent Christmas and Boxing Day in hospital with a chest infection. He came out. Mum with COPD then became ill and went into hospital on 28th and sadly passed away on 3rd Jan 2023.

So the whole family is very nervous of what might happen this year! So far so good but none of us are feeling the slightest bit Christmassy. My dad has arrived and seems ok so far so hopefully it will be a gentle Christmas for us this year.

NotGoodSoFar · 24/12/2023 09:16

So far my MiL has died and half of our new roof has blown off. Not feeling at all Christmassy but the kids are excited to I'm doing my best to put a good face on. Feel like crying really Xmas Confused

WolfFoxHare · 24/12/2023 09:17

I think I’ve started with the virus my husband was floored with a couple of weeks ago. I don’t actually feel too bad - bit of a cough and quite tired - but we have the in-laws here so now I’m worried about giving it to them.

Rockfordpeach · 24/12/2023 09:21

Very small in relation to some of the other posts but when I opened the curtains this morning in the lounge, the whole rail came out of the wall and broke in half. Hoping DP will be able to fix it when he gets home

HalloweenIsDone · 24/12/2023 09:23

3 of us have Covid in the house. DP working from tomorrow so just me and the DC. Youngest DC has nits. Just discovered last night. I'm really quite ill with Covid. I'd hoped a nights sleep would have broken it but I've woken up still feeling like shit.

CaroleSinger · 24/12/2023 09:23

I must be the exception. Don't really celebrate it and can't wait for the madness of panic buying just because the shops shut fir a few hours to end. What's it all about anyway? It's just another day.

I’m so sorry so many of you have illnesses or are having sad Christmases so far ☹️

Mine is that I broke up with my useless bf last week but he can’t move out until after NYE and he isn’t going anywhere for Christmas (as he says he has to work for money to move out). So it’s reeeally awkward and I don’t really know how to act tomorrow
