To ask what's gone wrong with your Christmas so far?

Just because I'm revelling in my own misery.

DS has been up all night with his 3rd raging stomach bug of the month. I thought we'd got unlucky enough to have 2 floor the house but I'm now running on no sleep while he can't keep anything in either end. I am SO obsessed with Christmas Eve and Christmas.. I know it's little in the long-term but I'm just so gutted and absolutely terrified it's going to keep spreading through the house.

So give me something to distract me and tell me what has gone wrong for you for Christmas this year.

You poor things, how miserable. Hope he’s on the mend soon ♥️

I'm a parish priest with the most important service of the year tonight, and I've lost my voice....

Just think about Zachariah! Someone could be appointed to read the service, surely, as long as you are present and perform the Consecration.

5 weeks pregnant with a much anticipated first grandchild in the family and not anywhere near ready to announce! Luckily no nausea yet but I'm going to have to be a bit creative with excuses for not drinking or eating all the brie. My DH and I have been trying for nearly a year so no doubt I'll have to share my pretend plans for seeing the GP for fertility support in the new year.

Say you are on antibiotics - bad chest, sore throat etc!

I’m so sorry so many of you have illnesses or are having sad Christmases so far ☹️

Mine is that I broke up with my useless bf last week but he can’t move out until after NYE and he isn’t going anywhere for Christmas (as he says he has to work for money to move out). So it’s reeeally awkward and I don’t really know how to act tomorrow

DD is in a similar situation, she split from her partner three months ago and they're still living together because he can't afford to move out.
They were supposed to be spending Christmas with us but it's just her now and he'll be staying home with his Xbox.

OneMoreTime23 · 24/12/2023 09:35

Husband has Covid so we are all banned from my parents’ for Xmas. Postponed to 6th January. Had to find room in the freezer for all the food that had already arrived. 😥

pizzaHeart · 24/12/2023 09:36

My back problem came back and Im quite restrictive in what I can do. DD was unwell and DH had some extra work unexpectedly so atm the house is mess and nothing wrapped and shopping is needed. DH is taking rubbish to the the recycling place. I literally don’t want to get up and face the reality. I will of course in a minute.
it’s only 3 of us though so less pressure in some way but not being able to put on top or socks without pain sucks.

@Tumbleweed101 I hope your family will have a nice relaxing Christmas 🎄

StrawberryWater · 24/12/2023 09:37

I have covid, half of ds’s presents have been delayed for a third time (even though we ordered them 4 weeks ago) and I don’t have the strength to go and get him something else oh and the DH told me yesterday he forgot to buy me a present (and now can’t because he has no time to and it’s too late for delivery) so I’ll have no gifts to open (yes his are going back).

FantasticMissFox · 24/12/2023 09:38

Needed this thread today. Myself and DP went out this morning for boat trip with brand new outboard motor. Motor fell off into river never to be seen again. He's miserable (understandably) spent 3 hours asleep while I (16w pregnant) did the food shop, got the last minute presents and tidied the house. I lost it when he didn't help after seeing me up a ladder putting up bunting.
Sending love to all.

I've shaved the tips of 2 fingers off with a mandolin. Can basically only operate with left hand. And our big celebration is Christmas eve and have few people coming for dinner. And I'm a control freak and hate delegating 🙁

Any tips for bandaging tops of Christmas welcome! which plasters, dressings are good. Need to make a trip to a pharmacy to buy something better than what I have now

honeyfox · 24/12/2023 09:43

Since yesterday lunchtime, a car that died and V&D like something out of the Bridesmaids film.

LaCerbiatta · 24/12/2023 09:44

Lol tops of fingers, not tops of Christmas 🤣

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 24/12/2023 09:44

CaroleSinger · 24/12/2023 09:23

I must be the exception. Don't really celebrate it and can't wait for the madness of panic buying just because the shops shut fir a few hours to end. What's it all about anyway? It's just another day.

Don't be absurd, of course it's not "just another day" 🙄

Just because you don't celebrate it, doesn't means billions of other people around the planet won't. Lots of people love Christmas and all the hustle and bustle and craziness that comes with it, and are allowed to be gutted when their vision doesn't come to pass because of illness or whatever..

Allwelcone · 24/12/2023 09:45

Covid here too.. I"m knackered. MIL dithering about whether to come with 3 other frails. I know they all will. It's a lot of work, and they're staying until 10pm apparently.

Oldest dd due back today, am so hoping she doesn't cause chaos as she's such a drama lama.

luckylavender · 24/12/2023 09:46

Sourisblanche · 24/12/2023 09:00

My dd(19) was really rude to me last night. She did apologise this morning on her way to work which is nice as I was going to wrap her remaining presents in bright pink paper which she hates Wink

To be fair to her, she’s been working in retail this week after a long term at uni and she’s knackered. I’m also a bit wobbly because my mum is terminal with not long to go.

Anyway new day today….happy Christmas Eve.

Good luck and support to you. My mum died on 9th. My 92 year old father is in bits, they'd been married for 63 years. I'm an only child and I live over 200 miles away. Shit Christmas.

Allwelcone · 24/12/2023 09:48

@luckylavender oh god how awful. Your poor dad, and condolences to you too.
Hope you bith have family round you.

Willmafrockfit · 24/12/2023 09:50

my car leaks in the back, rain is forecast, so will have to explain to dm and dd why they are sitting in a puddle

Should be able to get a finger bandage kit from pharmacy- so also get some non-stick burn dressing sheets and micropore tape. Cut teeny bits of the burn dressing to fit the finger tip, tape it down with single wee bit of tape, apply finger bandage using applicator then stick bandage round at base of finger with tape. Get some disposable gloves also as getting badges wet all the time will be annoying. Don’t suppose you have any nurse friends as I have all this in my car and could have set you up easily!! 🤣

PureAmazonian · 24/12/2023 09:57

Had 3 family members die in the last 6 weeks. Had people go off sick so now have to work 24hr shifts on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day with my DD spending the whole of Christmas without her mum. Oh and my new mortgage which is £300 extra a month started this month.
This year can literally fuck itself off!
Merry Christmas 🖕🏻

saveforthat · 24/12/2023 09:57

Had to drive my partner to A&E 30 miles away at 1am Tuesday morning as our local A&E closes overnight. They had an emergency appendectomy on Wednesday, home now but can't do anything so I am doing all the housework shopping, cooking and dog walking and looking after them. Luckily it was only going to be us this year anyway.

I'm a parish priest with the most important service of the year tonight, and I've lost my voice....

Oh no is there an able and capable lay person who can help you out up to the part of the service where you need to start to preside and then can take over at the end?

Hotchocolate2023 · 24/12/2023 10:00

There is no Brie to be found in tescos.
