Just because I'm revelling in my own misery.

DS has been up all night with his 3rd raging stomach bug of the month. I thought we'd got unlucky enough to have 2 floor the house but I'm now running on no sleep while he can't keep anything in either end. I am SO obsessed with Christmas Eve and Christmas.. I know it's little in the long-term but I'm just so gutted and absolutely terrified it's going to keep spreading through the house.

So give me something to distract me and tell me what has gone wrong for you for Christmas this year.

My godmother died suddenly on Friday and the funeral is Boxing Day😢

I must be the exception. Don't really celebrate it and can't wait for the madness of panic buying just because the shops shut fir a few hours to end. What's it all about anyway? It's just another day.

Of course it isn't just another day. It is one of the most important days for Christians. I wish people would think before saying something like that.

RosesAndHellebores · 24/12/2023 11:48

DH is 250 Miles away with his mama as she is now almost housebound and wouldn't cope with us staying.

DS and DIL are with DILs family.

DD and I are having lunch at her boyfriends family's home tomorrow and tonight I shall be alone for the first time on Christmas Eve, ever.

DS, DIL, DD and I are visiting my mother, diagnosed with severe heart disease, and awaiting surgery, on Boxing Day.

It may be the last Xmas for MIL and mother. It may be related in similar format next year.

DD, DIL, DS and I going north on 27th - to visit MIL. We will stay in an hotel.

I have no idea what the heck I shall do toady. Presently in a bubble bath.

Bearsinmotion · 24/12/2023 11:51

DS had a scratch on his face which turned into impetigo. I got a similar scratch which I was annoyed with about because I was supposed to be going on a date and it looked a bit weepy and unpleasant. Woke up next morning and it
had spread to half my face and I am now on antibiotics with suspected cellulitis 😭

gotomomo · 24/12/2023 11:53

Definitely a first world problem, I can't find a 13 year old Wii game that may not even be in this house of course beside moved twice including getting divorced. Was really fancying Beatles rock band last night Grin

henrydyson · 24/12/2023 11:55

@Eumie they do seem extremely rife this year. We've definitely never been battered by them like this before. It's unbearable.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 24/12/2023 11:57

I’ve got Covid. That’s quite wrong!

cannockcandy · 24/12/2023 11:58

We all have the flu. None stop coughing throughout the house and all we have eaten for the past 7 days has been soup!
I was throwing up most of yesterday too so that's a lovely added bonus!
We are all hoping we magically feel better in the morning so we can enjoy opening presents and, hopefully, eat Christmas dinner.

Don't be absurd, of course it's not "just another day" 🙄

Just because you don't celebrate it, doesn't means billions of other people around the planet won't. Lots of people love Christmas and all the hustle and bustle and craziness that comes with it, and are allowed to be gutted when their vision doesn't come to pass because of illness or whatever..

Why so aggressive? She is allowed to share her view without being attacked. She didn’t say anything offensive.

OdeToBarney · 24/12/2023 12:01

DH has covid, toddler has a rotten cold (not covid). DPs are dithering about whether to come (I obviously don't expect them to!) But also they've been out and about as normal this week, so could well have it anyway. Interestingly, DF has been complaining of intense itching such that he had to take piriton, plus generally feeling under the weather. Hmm.

It is a bit. You wouldn't Eid is just another day.

OdeToBarney · 24/12/2023 12:02

Sorry to everyone in much worse circumstances than us 💗

Every occasion is just another day for someone else.

Not sure why that’s offensive.

BookishBabe · 24/12/2023 12:08

'Tis the season.

DS6 has had d&v since Thursday when he was sent home from school. Every bite of food has almost instantly came back out.
DS4 has a terrible cough and cold which he has given to the whole house.

I feel like crap but thankfully DH already had the week booked off work and has been amazing for all of us.
But a sicky Christmas was not what I was hoping for.

Kezben123 · 24/12/2023 12:08

I have put the ham in the slow cooker, it's been in a couple of hours and is smelling lovely...but I have just realised when I took the packaging off for some reason I also removed the string, so no idea how it's gonna come out.
Also got a headache and cold, and just realised I haven't got enough side plates or wine glasses for the amount of people we having coming round, so husband is out stealing them for MIL.

So not too bad so far...

LimitedBrightSpots · 24/12/2023 12:12

My father is in hospital with cancer and I missed seeing him last week when I was visiting my mother because I had what I suspected was Covid. This turned into ear and eye infections for me so I've spent much of the last week unable to hear/see and in extreme pain as well as feeling generally unwell, while looking after 2 small children. The doctor confirmed a few days ago that I've ruptured my eardrum so I'm going to feel grotty for weeks. I haven't showered in days as someone is always screaming for me and I need to figure out a way to keep the eardrum dry.

My children have been ill too and the youngest hasn't slept more than a three hour stretch in the past 10 days. The older one is also waking frequently and I've been changing vomit-covered sheets a couple of times a night. Our dishwasher is broken. At least it's not the washing-machine, I guess. I get up like the walking dead every morning not having slept more than 90 minutes and tackle a huge pile of dirty plates in the kitchen.

My "D"H has been conspicuous by his absence throughout this and I've decided this week that my marriage is over.

On the positive side, I've found a new brand of crackers I like which are really nice with cheese. And my husband thinks I'm cooking Christmas dinner tomorrow whereas actually I've got pizza in for the kids and a few "picky bits" (to coin the MN phrase) for me.

I8toys · 24/12/2023 12:13

Where to start. Husband has prostate cancer and has had radiotherapy every day since 1st Dec. Starting to feel tired and ill. I have stomach problems and various strange aches/pains - endoscopy on 27th. Mother and father in law recently moved into assisted living (early December) father in law diagnosed with mixed dementia. MIL calling crying not coping. We've had to clear a 4 bedroom, double garage house filled to the brim with stuff. This has ruined our christmas so far. I have no time or energy to feel warm and bright! Putting on a happy face today as its my mum's birthday and we are due to go out for a meal. A positive is my two kids are home and we are a family again once more.

There is no Brie to be found in tescos.

According to my parents, also none to be found in Aldi or Morrisons! Wonder why?

NEMSparkle · 24/12/2023 12:15

We are staying with family and had to bring the dog with us. He walked straight onto the living room and peed all over the Christmas tree and baby Jesus in the nativity scene! 🙈

Ilovegoldies · 24/12/2023 12:16

Nothing compared to what some of you are going through but I'm another one joining the covid club. I started reading this thread with just a cold and halfway through I did a test as my elderly parents were due to come over. Bollocks.

Zanatdy · 24/12/2023 12:17

Ds2 (19) has started coughing - headache - asking if the heating was on last night when it hadn’t been on in 36hrs. Covid test negative. Tested as friend coming tomorrow - given her choice if to come and stay away from DS (will do 2 sittings) or to cancel, her choice. Not sure what she will choose but I’ve got a Turkey that’s way too big!

Jochef · 24/12/2023 12:17

I’m in hospital with a heart attack

day 7

no sign of a return home as yet

think this could be up there as a shit Christmas

Topofthemountain · 24/12/2023 12:18

Best wishes to all who are bereaved, caring for ill relatives or feeling poorly themselves.

I have had the horrible bug going round and so have felt very unprepared. DS (15, ASD) is currently really struggling, and DD (17) is becoming increasingly upset by it all.

Pompoms88 · 24/12/2023 12:19

My mum died at the start of the month.
I have a cold that shows no sign of leaving.
People keep forcing plans on me, I just want to have no visitors and read my book.

ForTonightGodisaDJ · 24/12/2023 12:22

Guy I'm seeing sent nasty message for no reason (well actually because he's stressed at work I assume) after things had been going lovely since September (I've actually being seeing him on and off since 2021 but that's a different story) and now it looks like we won't see each other before Christmas. I booked Christmas Eve off to see him but the guy covering me has called in sick so even if he has a change of heart I won't see him now cos I've got go in work. Merry Christmas. Pretty heartbroken 💔again.
